Weekend Roundup

Happy New Year! I’m posting this a little early on Sunday night. Anyhow, it’s a brand new year! Let’s make 2022 our best year yet. They’re are always challenges, and sometimes there’s sadness and sorrow, but there’s also the joys we embrace and the happiness we choose to live.

Okay, now for my weekend roundup.

Friday, Wizard and I went to dinner…here we are beginning our New Year’s Resolution to take more pictures as a couple before we left for the restaurant:

We just went to Red Lobster, but it was really nice to have dinner out. We also split a key lime pie. Then we came home and watched an interesting movie (Identity), and had a lowkey but fun night.

Until Wizard checked his phone and found out that a good friend suddenly passed away from Covid. We were both completely shocked. It was so quick and so sudden. Wizard has now lost three friends, two whom he was pretty close to. And I just feel freaking helpless. Wizard manages to stay so positive lately while dealing with some real and painful stress. I admire his grit, I really do.

Saturday, we planned to babysit Turbo, but I got a middle of the night text that he was running a fever. He hasn’t been too sick, but they took him to the doctor as a precaution. So since I was home Saturday, I tried the non dairy version of Hot Chocolate Bombs.

Sunday I took the HC Bombs to Youngest and his wife. Wizard stayed home to do some stuff, and I hung out two hours at Youngest’s house. I got to hang out with two of my grandpuppies. By the time I got around to taking pictures, they were both sound asleep :-)

This is Roxy. She’s pretty old, but smart as ever, and always shows me where her treats are in case I forgot (she also shows me at MY house too, LOL):

And this is Phoebe, the Queen of Eating the Wrong Thing, and the Great Rat and Lizard Huntress:

So there was good and bad over the last few days, but life is filled with shades of both, isn’t it?

So how was your New Year’s and your weekend?

Oh no. I’m so sorry to hear about Wizard’s friend(s). :hugs: And that Turbo isn’t feeling well. :hugs for him, too: On a happier note, you two are such a cute couple. And yay for time with the kids and the grand-puppies. Yep, life is filled with shades and brightness.

Everything was quiet here. There’s some stuff we’re waiting to hear about but we’re rolling with it. Sort of ‘Welcome to 2022. Keep your arms and feet inside the ride at all times’. I made more mint-patty cookies. Today, I’ll be making ham and bean soup. And waiting for it to warm up a little so I can go outside and play in the woods. We got our first snow – just a dusting, but it came with frigid temps. Brrrr.

Heartfelt condolences to Wizard. Unexpected goodbyes are so hard. 😢 Hopefully, Turbo is feeling better by now! You and Wiz just…fit together. Such a lucky, happy thing, yeah? And yay for grand-puppies.

And…I’m back. That was a two-hour interruption. Boone discovered the stuffed animals in a shelf in the corner between the closet and the entry door in my office. And he proceeded to start chewing on one. I don’t think it was one of Only’s Beanie Babies because it was bigger. I still need to do surgery on the pup’s nose. What took so long? Me dusting and packing away all the collectibles on that shelf unit. So, one part of my new “aspirations” for 2022 is marked off for today.

Anyway. My weekend. It was cold. We stayed indoors. I fixed a brisket with my homemade BBQ sauce, baked beans, and deviled eggs. We watched our OSU Cowboys come back and then hang on to beat Notre Dame. Yesterday, I wasted most of the day searching for a new book/series to listen to. I had very “strict” requirements–like it had to be either free to read with my Audible Plus or I could borrow it from my library or Hoopla. It was frustrating because several series that looked interesting weren’t available. Anyway.

That’s pretty much all I did. Did I mention the frigid temps? LOL Fuzzy houseshooes and flannel jammies for the win!

One last thing, I decided my word for the year is “balance.” In all its permutations. I got some decluttering done, now it’s time to write. Have a great week, all! 🥰

I am very sorry to hear that Wizard has lost 3 friends from this DA*N virus. It’s good that you’re there to support him because even though he isn’t showing outward signs, he must be upset.

I love the photo of the two of you prior to dinner. Key lime pie sounds great. Glad you had a nice dinner out.

So sorry that Turbo isn’t feeling all that well. It is that time of year. His parents are great! I wish all parents realized that kids need to get little sicknesses to build the immune system. So many parent today, aka my eldest and wife, are over protective and may end up causing the kids more harm in the long run.

Those dog photos are so cute.

Hubs and I did nothing on New Years Eve. New year’s Day 3 of the kids came over. Middle’s wife was tired and stayed home with Queso and Muffin (the cat). The lasagna was great and we all had a good time. I am so sick of being in the kitchen cooking and cleaning up. But with the virus being out of control I don’t think I’ll get hubs to take me out for a little while.

Well, I’m off to cook dinner.

    Have a great afternoon!

B.E., thanks on all. Another bright spot is Turbo had no fever this morning. I’ll check in again later this evening. And Maggie has staked out all the best sunspots in the house :-)

I hope you hear soon on the stuff you’re waiting to hear about. Life is full of that too. Mint patty cookies are always a win in my book. And the soup sounds perfect for the first snow of the year (even if it’s just a dusting)!

Hope you dress warm to play in the woods (I swear I heard scary movie music when I read that line, LOL!) Then you can come in and have the warm hearty ham and bean soup!

Silver, Turbo was definitely feeling better this morning. The way my son put it, the fever downgraded his normal hurricane energy to a tornado energy :-) He’s not one to stay down long :-) And yeah, something so “small” as dropping by to see a kid and feed treats to their dogs really does add a huge bright spot to life.

LOL Boone! I’m impressed that he discovered the toy, and of course he assumed it was his. I mean it probably looked like a dog toy, right? Hope you can successfully preform the needed cosmetic surgery.

I read your blog about Balance–great idea!

I haven’t had brisket in a very long time. I’m sure you guys really enjoyed it along with the yummy side dishes.

I struggle all the time to find books. My criteria is pretty strict, but sometimes I get desperate.

Hope you stay warm and accomplished all you wanted to do today!

Viki, it’s so random that this happened to 3 of his friends. Sometimes, there really isn’t an explanation. On a more positive note, Turbo was feeling better this morning, and we’ve had a quiet day. I’m going to be more ambitious tomorrow, today my goals were only walks, laundry and washing floors :-)

Thanks on the picture. We take pics of each other, but somehow got out of the habit of taking them of the two of us. It’s a little thing, I know. The key lime pie was good, but they put a raspberry drizzle with no whipped cream, so the balance was off. Normally the tartness of the key lime pie balanced by the sweetness of the whipped cream. Still we enjoyed the slice :-)

I bet your lasagna was amazing! I know your boys enjoyed it–there’s nothing like mom’s special dishes that they probably grew up eating. Sorry your daughter in law couldn’t make it, I hope she’s truly just tired and not getting sick. It’s that time of year where all kinds of bugs are going around. I’ve been inspired by you to try making one either this week or next. We can’t eat it all, but I’ll package some up into small servings for my mother-in-law.

Does your husband like to cook? Wizard doesn’t do a lot of cooking, but he’ll BBQ even when it’s cold and raining. When he thinks I’m tired and on my feet too much, he offers to go get fast food. It’s a lot for you to do it all yourself. I feel for you being sick of it. I’ve had a few moments of that over the last two years.

Hope your year is off to a great start!

Thanks, Jenn. It ended up being a non-issue, so all’s well.
