Weekend Roundup

It was a pretty weekend here! Warm in the days, but very nice. Maggie and I took multiple walks, which is how I got in trouble with a security guard :-) So Maggie and I’ve been walking in the field around the new housing track being built. There’s a public access road that leads up in the hills so that’s okay.

But on weekends, I’ve been walking through the construction site on weekends, generally staying on the roads. The security guard in the days is brand news. She’s sitting in her car at the head of the road by the models, and she was talking (yelling) into her phone. I assumed she saw me but didn’t care since she didn’t react as I turned the corner on the side walk and zipped right by her. I mean lets be honest, they are there to stop stealing. I’m a middle aged woman walking my dog in fitted jeans and a t-shirt. What am I going to steal? And where was I gonna put it? It was all I could do to fit my cell phone and house keep in my pockets, LOL

But I got about a third of the way down the street and I see some finishing workers (doing finish work inside the models, no heavy equipment work or I wouldn’t walk there), sitting on some steps, eating lunch and watching me. That seemed weird the way they were all staring at me.

Then the yelling started behind me.

This security guard–a woman around my age–had gotten out of her car and was yelling, “Excuse me! Hello! Hey Excuse me.”

Busted. So I walked back, she started off a bit rough but soon calmed when she realized that I really was just walking my dog. She sort of back tracked and said I could keep going, but I told her no problem I’ll go another way that doesn’t cut through the track.  I know she was just doing her job, etc. So Maggie and I hiked up a dirt road (it’s technically public) and by the time we doubled back and left, the security guard waived, and asked if we enjoyed out walk.  The next day I passed her by staying out of the track and she waived again.  We’re friends now :-)

But I told Wizard this is all his fault because he’s always telling me to stop being chicken about breaking rules. He laughed and asked me if it was really a big deal. No, but I hate being in the wrong. And I was clearly in the wrong so…it’s his fault. Obviously.

Otherwise while I had a mellow weekend.  I’m learning my airbrush, and here’s a picture of one of the projects on my dummy (Styrofoam) cake.

It’s all fondant and airbrush work, and it’s a process to learn it all :-)

That was pretty much my weekend. How was yours?

Oooo, pretty! Sad that it’s not a real cake, but that’s probably for the best. If you made cake for all your practice decorations, you’d have to eat it and you’d be huge. Or you’d have to throw it all out, which is even sadder. So yay for styrofoam cake dummies. Too funny about your ‘run in with the law’. I’m glad the guard chilled out after a bit and you’re friendly now. I’m like you, though. The thought of getting caught alone keeps me from doing things that might not be strictly kosher.

Not much going on over here. I’m 238 pages into my 360 page manuscript edit. Fantasy is HARD. Also, Hubs and I were playing in the woods yesterday and I ended up working on getting a couple logs up the hill, a feat for which I am now paying. Yay for Aleve.

Oh boy you and Maggie now have a new friend even if it was a strange way to go about it 😉.

Nice! You’re doing great with the airbrush. I like the ombre effect. Looks great.

Nothing big happened this weekend for us. Youngest was allowed back to work today. Even though this strain of the virus is pretty mild for healthy people I can understand the boss (over weight with health conditions) not wanting any one in the office that has been exposed to the virus.

We’re under a winter storm warning but there seems to be no snow. I think they got it a little wrong. We are cold and getting colder. Tonight we’re going down to 5F with winds so the wind chill will be in the negative digits.

    I hope you’re having a wonderful day!

I’m late. I’m late. Just call me the White Rabbit! It’s been a day. PRETTY cake! You are really getting the hang of shaping and the airbrush! Glad you and the security guard are friends now. It’s good to have someone to smile and wave at.

My weekend? It was. Stormy arrived Saturday afternoon so his mom and dad could sneak off to their favorite B&B for their anniversary. He and his Big Daddy did the whole play with the model airplanes and watch Mythbusters thing. The kid is way too smart for my own good. Pretty sure he’lll grow up to be an engineer or a scientist of some sort. We had Golden Chick for dinner (a fave fast-food that isn’t truly fast food) and then after some stalling, he went to bed.

Sunday morning, I fixed him a homemade waffle with batter left over from our Friday night dinner. Oh, did I mention I made waffle batter and fried bacon for dinner Friday night? Anyway, he ate well and then we completed his read-for-30-minutes assignment. His folks arrived a little after 11, stayed to visit briefly and then they all traipsed off.

LG took a nap. I dealt with poor Boone Doggle because LG has been dealing with him most nights. Long story. Anyway, last night was my turn to deal with him and I’m sort on sleep. Ah well.

Anyway, it was an okay weekend, even if today has been a bust. LOL

B.E., thanks. It’s been freeing working on a cake dummy since I don’t have to worry about ruining a cake :-) It’s a good way to practice. I do waste fondant, but it’s the best way to learn, I guess.

I’m still traumatized by getting caught, LOL. But she was nice once she realized I wasn’t going to be a jerk about it.

You’re more than half way through your edit! And yeah, fantasy is hard. The world building alone can turn into a monster. But you’re up to the task!

Ouch! I bet you’re sore from getting the logs up the hill! Hope the Aleve is doing the job for you.

    Happy Monday!

Viki, at least the encounter with the security guard turned out positive :-)

The ombre was a lot of fun. I’m still working on figuring out the best psi and trigger controls. I’m also working on learning to roll my fondant thinner and getting a bit better. Those are things that, at least for me, only practice will help.

I’m so glad Youngest was able to get back to work. So many officers are getting dealing with so many sick employees that they can’t function. There just aren’t any easy answers in sight. But I’m really glad your son is okay.

That’s way too cold! At least you have the new roof to help keep the house insulated. The weather people win some and lose some, LOL.

Hope your week is off to a good start!

Silver, looks like Monday started off a bit rough for you. I hope Boone is okay.

    Thanks on the cake.

Model airplanes sounds like a perfect project for Stormy and LG! And you’re likely right about how smart he is! I laughed about stalling at bedtime. That part is pretty predicable :-) All in all, it sound like Stormy had a great overnight visit.

Hope Only and BB had a lovely romantic anniversary dinner!

It must be a long day for you, and something ongoing with Boone. Sleep depravation is a real thing. I hope you all get more rest tonight, and that the rest of your week is smooth and productive.
