Weekend Roundup

Happy Monday! So overall my weekend was, well, a weekend :-) Here’s the recap:

Friday, Part One: I got my hair done. So that was interesting. For one of the few times in my life, my hairdresser was telling me she has a lady who desperately wants a hairstyle like mine, but her hair won’t do it. I was half-complimented and half-laughing because it pretty much took me until this last year to accept that I will never have fabulous long and luxurious hair. Instead what I have is acceptable hair. So when I finally escaped my denial, I said, “Acceptable hair what would you like to do?”

AH answered, “Live free and wild with no limits.”

I said, “Heck no, we will scare small children and I mostly like kids. Plus we’ll make all the huskies and beagles howl in protest. Surely we can compromise.”

AH gave them some thought, then suggested, “A layered bob deal that you will have to blow dry straight and sometimes use a straight iron on when the weather is ornery.”

I agreed and we’ve been friends ever since.Β But I felt for whomever that woman was longing for a hairstyle her hair refuses to do. Been there, done that was practically Today Years Old when I gave up the dream.

Friday Part Two: After getting my hair colored, cut and tamed, I met Biker Witch for coffee. We talked for two hours before I even checked the time. Love that! I also tried a salted caramel cookie that I found delicious.

Saturday: Wizard and I went to breakfast which was lovely. Fortified with carbs and caffeine, I rolled up my sleeves and finished cleaning out my kitchen cupboards. That required taking everything out of my pantry which is not a walk-in, but quite big and holds A. Lot. Of. Stuff. It was a chore that resulted into a large bag of trash and a variety pack of sore muscles. But it feels good to have it done. I still need to Murphy Oil Soap the doors, but that’s a two hour, and much less painful project I’ll do sometime this week. I have to say, yoga has paid off in the ability to control myself into weird pretzels shapes to reach the dark, twisty corners of some very deep cupboards. So that’s a plus :-)

Sunday: I made some more Hot Chocolate Bombs, partly as practice, and also to take one or two to Turbo (my grandson) when I go over there today to visit him. (His super patient parents may put me on supervised visits after this since they are so rich, LOL But they give him chocolate milk, so…that’s my excuse???)Β  Anyhow, here’s a pic of some of the HC Bombs:

And Maggie and I went for a walk on a gorgeous day:

This is the base of the Cleveland National Forest that goes for miles and miles. I didn’t go any farther than where I stopped to take the picture because I know packs of coyotes (and other animals) who would consider Maggie an excellent meal live back there. It was warm enough that I was also concerned about snakes. There areΒ  safer dirt roads I mostly stay on but it was a beautiful spot if you appreciate raw land and I wanted to share it.

So that was my weekend, how was yours?

I totally get the hair thing! Yay for sisterhood, chocolate bombs, and pantry decluttering! Breakfast out is such a treat! And pretty walks, even with the threat of wild critters rock. There was a weekend, wasn’t there…

Friday, I meant to rewrite Chapter 16, which I wrote on Thursday and totally hated. So I stared. And fidgeted. And procrastinated. Finally walked away. I don’t remember doing anything else. πŸ€¦πŸΌβ€β™€οΈ

Saturday, the blue norther blew through. By the time I left to give blood, the real temp was 23, with 35 MPH sustained winds gusting to 45, so the windchill was single digits. πŸ₯Ά The center was mostly empty but said they’d had a slow but steady stream. I set a new personel best–5 1/2 minutes. The πŸ§›πŸΌβ€β™€οΈπŸ¦‡πŸ§›πŸΌβ€β™‚οΈ like my blood. I came home chilled to the bone and after staring at the WIP for about 30 minutes, decided to go get under the covers. I woke up over 5 hours later. Oops. Good nap though! 😴

Sunday was more productive. Sometime during my nap, I dreamed of completely rewriting that chapter–totally different character POV and a different starting point. It worked. And I can still harvest bits and pieces from the original so there’s that. LG and I got around to installing the Ring doorbell the Kids gave me for Christmas. It works! Yay! Even with the green lights I leave on a timer on the front porch. (Long story about those lights and an across-the-back-street neighbor’s infared securities camers. Today, it’s supposed to be warmer so we’ll attempt the other Ring camera that is supposed to go above our garage, facing a different street. The joys of living on a corner. Anyway… πŸ“·

Oh! I also made the Cool Whip snickerdoodle cookies yesterday. They are pretty yummy but I need to take them out of the oven sooner than I think I do. Still they are easy (tub of Cool Whip, white or yellow cake mix, 1 egg) even though the dough is sticky-icky. Totally worth it. πŸͺ

OH! 2.0: I do remember something I did on Friday–I found the hand mixer I wanted (still out of stock at my Wallyworld) at the next closest WW. I dashed up to get it–it was the last one on the shelf. It’s cool–has “blade” beaters that are easy to scrape, regular beaters, and a whisk beater, plus it all fits in a plastic “tub” that the mixer fits on top of for easy storage. Yay! And I used it for the cookies. Now I need to find my old one, make sure it’s clean and sack it up for the charity thrift store. πŸ‘¨πŸΌβ€πŸ³

Okay. I’m done now. WW trek today, followed by more edit/words with hopefully more forward progress on the WIP and steadying the ladder for LG.

Have a good and productive week, all! πŸ₯°

Ooo, those chocolate bombs look and sound yummy. I, too, get the whole ‘AH’ thing. And that pic is starkly beautiful. Thanks for sharing it.

It snowed here. Not a lot by Michigan standards, but a hella-lot for Missouri. I stocked up ahead of time and we’re home for the duration. This morning, I poked my head out to take some pics and saw two foxes. Too bad they saw me, too, and took off running. They were so pretty, I wish they’d stopped for a better picture. I got one, but it’s not great. Other than that, not much going on here. Same ol’ same ol’.

AH had me laughing. You too have a good relationship. My hair and me – not so much. I was never the girl that “did” her hair. Mine was always long and naturally straight. I tried the perm bob thing in the 80’s – looked like Vicki Lawrence’s Eunice. I still cannot do hair. We just co-exist πŸ˜‰.

Isn’t it nice when the time flies while having coffee and visiting with one you love!

Yesterday I was thinking that it’s time to get out the Murphy’s Oil soap for my kitchen. It’s still the best on the wood.

Those bombs look great. I’m sure DIL and son will be fine with Turbo having one. They’re good parents.

Nice photo. I would never have thought about the snakes coming out being January but CA is very different than OH.

We had over 21 inches of snow from 5 pm yesterday until 10:30 am today. The snow blower broke before any snow was thrown. Youngest and his truck went right through all the snow and to Home Depot and bought a new snow blower. We’re supposed to get more snow tonight. Oh well.

I hope you have a great afternoon!

Silver, Turbo liked the HC Bomb, so did his parents :-) They all shared one which was a wise choice. I gave them extra for Special K’s nieces and nephews (they truly appreciate my baking, LOL)

Your story about writing makes me miss it, but I’m so happy you found the solution for that chapter that just wasn’t working. Isn’t it cool how our subconscious will work on a problem while we sleep or do other things?

The ring doorbell is a good tool for a corner house. One of my son’s has it (not a corner but still) and they really like it. Also cool is they can watch the critters like coyotes around their house when they sleep. They’ve seen some very cool things (They live at the base of hills too).

Yay for your new mixer and cookies. I’m jealous that your mixer can in it’s own storage container. I just rigged up one for my own, so I really understood how awesome that it. Simple cookies are great!

Hope it was a productive day!

B.E., thanks on the view–I know not everyone appreciate desert terrain, but I’ve come to love it except in the brutal heat :-)

I’m glad you are all stocked up and safe in the storm. It may not be Michigan snow, but it’s a lot and can be dangerous (especially for people who don’t use common sense).

I bet the foxes were beautiful! I’m sorry you didn’t get a good pic of them.

Hope your edits are still going well!

Viki, I always wanted straight hair :-) By the way, I also tried the perm, mistakenly believing it would tame my fizzy hair into loose curls. When I came home, my baby cried while clinging to Wizard and refusing to come to me. My three-year-old stared in horrified fascination and asked if I could fix it. Wizard held onto the baby while doubling over laughing. Yeah, good times, LOL. We all have those special hair memories. (seriously, I can’t blame Wizard for laughing)

I like Murphy’s Oil soap the best too. I hope I can get to it this week, but I need to do it right before I wash the floors since I always manage to get some on the floor.

Yeah, snakes can be more of a year round issue in Southern California. It just depends. I try to always be cautious so it’s a habit. I want to see where I’m stepping and the area around me.

YIKES! That’s a lot of snow. I can’t believe your son’s truck got through that! He’s the hero making it to Home Depot to replace your snow blower. I’m glad you’re all safe, and hope the next snow it’s too much or cause you problems. Hope your mom is okay in NY too. I don’t know how much of the storm they’re getting, but I am thinking about her.

Oh and Turbo liked the hot chocolate :-) His mom made a cup and they all shared it.

I need to make a correction. It was Carol Burnett that was Eunice :).
I had to laugh about your little ones reaction to the perm because mine freaked too. It was the middle son. He was about 8 months old and just cried. I had cut off my long hair to a chin bob and permed it. He didn’t know me.
Oh the terror we put our babies through.

Here’s a tip. The government covid test site went live a day early. You can order your free kits at covidtests.gov now. They will send 4 kits per address. Seems like it would be a good idea to have them on hand.

    Have a wonderful Tuesday.
