Witch and Wizard

At lunch yesterday, I was telling Wizard I’m so annoyed at a book, I want to teach a class on how to write tension into a book.

FYI: A misunderstanding is not a plot, and it does not create page-turning tension. See? I gave that little tidbit away for free!

But back to my story: When I told him that, Wizard immediately began mentally planning Zoom Classes and setting up a payment schedule. He had me up to teaching five different classes before I was able to interrupt long enough to inform him I wasn’t going to teach writing by Zoom right now. Boy, he was on a roll, LOL!!!

Last week, he was mentally drawing up plans to sell my cookies and cakes.

I’ve noticed that in all his big plans…I seem to be doing the work! When I pointed this out, he suggested that if I give him recipes he could bake my cookies and cakes. I’m tempted to do it and set up a little Witch vs. Wizard Bake & Taste Contest :-) Wizard and I would have a blast even if we couldn’t find anyone to actually judge our efforts.

Wizard actually doesn’t want me to work right now. He’s just amusing himself.

So how’s your Wednesday going?

LOL, Wizard is a hoot. Actually, you both are. Together, you’re a hoot and a half. (Not sure how that math works, but you crack me up.) You really ought to do a bake-off for one of your family get-togethers. Get the kids to judge. It sounds like fun.

As for the class, you could definitely do it. And it would be awesome. I do think the whole misunderstanding thing can work, but like most tropes, it has to be done well or it comes off as irritating. (And you’re not the first person to tell me that trope irritates them.) It doesn’t help that it’s been done to death, so newer stories really have to work at making it fresh. I probably don’t read as much romance, so it doesn’t bother me when I come across it.

Wednesday… it’s my birthday… and it started off with torrential rain. The rain’s stopped now. Not sure what the rest of the day will bring. I’m making bacon cheeseburgers for dinner. And I bought a cheesecake. (But forgot the fruity topping. Derp.) Other than that, it’s just another day. Have a great one!

I’m with B.E. Y’all are a hoot and holler! (No math needed.) Plus, you could do a blind taste test at the family get-together. Wiz is like LG. LG keeps coming up with all these great ideas for books. For ME to write. I keep telling him that he should write his own. ;)

I’d take your Zoom classes! Also, I don’t mind misunderstandings so long as people talk them out instead of letting them fester because, y’all! Really? That is NOT a good basis for a plot nor will it carry any sort of arc in the book. In that whole GMC scheme, it is NOT a goal, it’s barely a motivation, and does little to add to the conflict except to irritate the reader if it’s a prolonged part of the author’s plan. A good knock-down drag-out fight over something important? Yeah! That break-up and make-up can progress the character and plot arcs, but misunderstandings? That’s so…mean girl.

    HAPPY BIRTHDAY, B.E.!!! 🥰 🎂

You two are so funny. I first have to say that it’s really nice that you have lunch together :). Second, he is so smart. He knows what you love and is just suggesting you make a profit too. You two really do have fun :)

It is sweet that Wizard doesn’t want you working right now. Even if you wanted to, you have enough on your plate right now with the build.

My girlfriend whose daughter just had the baby met me for lunch today. It was so nice to see her. She and her hubs are considering buying a townhouse or something up here so that they can come up from NC more often to spend time with the grandbaby.

Spunk and I are on our own right now. Hubs is in TN. Spunk has requested I make grilled tuna so that he can have some. He’s not going to be happy when he realizes that it’s soup tonight (it’s rainy and cold). Maybe he’ll get his wish tomorrow.

On a happy note – my brother’s bone scan came back clear! He and his Dr. are coming up with a treatment plan this week.

    Have a fantastic afternoon!

B.E., Happy Birthday! FB didn’t tell me thatn :-(

A hoot and a half is a nice compliment! We just dream things up to keep life interesting :-)

Thank you for saying you’d take a class from me. It’s so nice to hear. Who knows? Maybe one day. This year is just being sucked up by life (funny how life does that!)

You’re probably right that there are cases where misunderstandings work. Mostly I see it more as a plot complication than the actual plot. But I’ve moved onto to reading a YA I’m enjoying much more :-)

Hope you have a great birthday and enjoy your bacon cheeseburger and cheesecake!

Silver, isn’t that great when they come up with ideas for US to write???? LG is rightfully proud of you though, so I get where he’s coming from!

So with you on misunderstandings that (basically) go beyond the common sense expiration date. But I don’t see it as a plot, and it can be a motivation if done right. Or it can be a complication to the character’s goal, and THAT can increase tension.

LOL love the mean girl reference! Yep.

Viki, Wizard and I just want each other happy these days. He remembers the adjustment he went through when he retired, and while I haven’t retired, he knows I’m figuring out my path going forward. I think he’s reminding me I have choices :-)

We tend to be pack animals who eat together, LOL!

I’m so happy for you that you got to see your girlfriend! I hope she can find a place here and you get to see her (and the maybe baby!) more.

Hope hubs and Harrison are having a great time together! And you and Spunk too :-) Maybe you can work in another smaller treat for Spunk tonight in place of his beloved Salmon. But soup or stew is so good on a cold rainy night.

That’s such a relief that your brother’s bone scan came back clean. I was just thinking of him today for some reason. His prognosis definitely improved significantly with that news and a good treatment plan will make it even better! So happy you all got some good news!

Enjoy your soup tonight and hope you and Spunk have a great evening!
