We got a new computer, and all was working until we asked the printer to scan something. That’s when the printer realized the computer has been updated and pitched a royal tantrum, blaming the router, the internet, the network and a witch hunt. But it was the printer, and we knew it was because old technology rarely plays nice with new technology. It’s like an unwritten rule of the tech gods laughing at us mere mortals trying to make it all work.
Sigh, so Wizard and I bought a new printer. Because of course we needed it ASAP to scan a document. I researched a printer, then Wizard looked at it and we both decided to go buy it. We were on our game…or so we thought. It wasn’t until we were hooking up the printer that we realized it didn’t have the ability to fax. It’s an All in One except for fax because who even uses fax anymore?
Dinosaurs and bureaucracies, that’s who. In other words, Wizard and I forgot about the fax function because we rarely ever use it, but wanted it just in case we need it. So we took back the first printer and bought another. For more money of course, because…technology eats money for breakfast and washes it down with mortal tears.
But the new printer worked!
But the bowsers…oh the browser. So I noticed that Wizard kept accidentally opening my email instead of his. Weird, but I chalked it up to stress and assumed he was opening the wrong browser. Then I watched him open his Facebook only my Facebook account came up. I couldn’t blame that on stress as I saw it happen with my own eyes. So I took over and checked, and yep, his browser was signing him out and auto signing me in, then transferring my data.
That’s some weird stuff, yeah?
Technology! Okay so here’s what’s happening: I use Google Chrome and Wizard uses Microsoft Edge. We like using two different browsers as it keeps everything separate and it works for us. But Microsoft Edge has updated to Chromium which is the same open-source software that Google Chrome uses. So now, my Chrome and Microsoft Edge think they are the same browser (simplest way I know to explain it.) And since I synced up my Chrome across my devices, it’s absorbing Microsoft Edge into that. In short, Chrome is deleting Wizard off Microsoft Edge and replacing all his stuff with mine.
It’s like a Sci Fi Movie.
I’m working on solutions, but if the ones I’m trying don’t fix it, then I’ll have to change my browser. Wizard is handling enough things right now, and I adapt faster to changes online than he does. But seriously, Microsoft Edge and Google Chrome, could you two not foresee this problem? Really?
Maybe today I will win this battle! Or not.

Gah! Sorry tech is giving you fits right now. I don’t know if this is a service in the bigger world, but my bank let’s me fax from there if I need to. You know, if this ever happens again. :hugs: That browser thing is insane. Try Firefox or Brave. Hubs uses Chrome for some stuff and Firefox or Brave for other stuff. I use Brave and Firefox, but also have Chrome if I need to help the office with their stuff. (But we have different computers, so I don’t know if that would solve your problem.)
I don’t think any of the tech companies really try to foresee anything. They pick what they think the majority of people might want and then run with it whether it’s actually better or not. Which is why I’m still using Windows 7. I’d still be using Windows 98 if I could get it and all the software worked with it.

I desperately want to turn this into a meme! Weird on the Chrome and Edge deal. I actually use both. Sort of. Chrome is my primary “go-to.” I use Edge for Microsoft Rewards and Bing games but they’ve changed the games so now I’m trying to wean myself off the time-suck they become. Anyway, good luck with all that.
FYI, LG still uses Firefox. And it constantly messes with his email. At least we have separate computers and he uses his phone a lot. I HATE trying to read anything off my phone–especially email. Bad eyesight. I have to use a magnifying glass.
Speaking of, I can’t make another appointment for my eyes until I get my car back because LG is playing Stormy chauffeur and having dealt with DMEI for over 10 years with Only’s eye, we go prepared to wait. It wouldn’t do to be stuck there when LG needs to pick up the kid or if he has his own appointments at VA. Anyway. We were talking about technology.
My printer if fairly new but periodically, it gets it in its pea-sized microchip that it’s going to skip every 3rd line of printing text.
Good thing I don’t print often but when I do, I want the dang thing to print right!
From someone who is technologically challenged, you have my sympathies and I hope you and Wiz can figure it out! 🤗

Oh I would have been so frustrated. I can’t send fax with my printer either. I just take pictures of stuff and email them to whomever.
You would think that big tech companies would have figured out that people would have the sign in issue and made sure there to have put in a correction. I hope you were able to find the solution.
It’s 98F right now with heat index of 105F. When you go outside the air is heavy. Tomorrow will still be yucky but not as bad. I really feel for those who are homeless and those without air conditioning.
My brother’s surgery is in 1/2 hour. Thank you so much for keeping him in your prayers.
I sure hope that you are doing well and that the heat isn’t too bad that it keeps Maggie from her walks

B.E., that’s awesome that your bank will fax for you. The fax is all hooking up and running right now (should we need it). But good to know there’s options.
I haven’t even tried to tackle the problem today. I’ve been doing other stuff, and just don’t want too. But I’ll look at the browsers you suggested. Brava is new to me, but I’m familiar with Firefox.
LOL on Windows. We were forced into Windows 11 with the new computer, but I’d never have voluntarily upgraded.

Silver, I’m honored, since I was just spewing my thoughts, LOL.
Since you and LG have separate computers, I doubt the Chome and Edge thing will be an issue for you at all. Wizard and I share the desktop, but have separate laptops and of course, our phones. For us, it just depends what we’re doing, but we do major things on the desktop. It works for us
I feel LG’s pain with Firefox. I had them in the pass, and my email kept crashing, and I had other issues I don’t remember now. It’s why I switched to Chrome and I’ve been happy. Plus I have Edge as a backup. But I’ll work it out when I’m ready to tackle it. Today was not that day!
I really hope you can get your car back soon. I know the kids are in a bind, but it’s causing you issues now. You need to get your eyes taken care of.
I’d be aggravated too if my printer did that. We’ve had printers get pretty wonky on us too. But they sure do come up with creative ways to throw fits.

Viki, It makes more sense to do that than someone to demand a fax. But we still run into that once in a while. This way, we have it if we need it.
Who knows what tech companies think, but they’ve asserted more control of my computers with every machine I’ve bought. So can we really blame them for assuming we will just let them get away with this stuff??
I’m assuming the humidity there is making the heat index worse. I feel for you!
I’m definitely praying for your brother to have a successful surgery and a full, uncomplicated recovery.
Maggie and I are only doing early morning walks now. Neither of us can handle the middle of the day heat. Hope you stay cool there, and get good news about your brother soon!
