Weekend Roundup

Despite a miserable hot weekend, Wizard and I kept busy.

Saturday: Wizard ran errands while I cleaned, then we went in the pool. After that, we were hanging out in the Jacuzzi, and Wizard was trying to convince me that we can fit a pool in our new backyard. Um…okay. Being a good wife, I found the perfect pool to fit our backyard:

He doesn’t think I’m as funny as I do.

Sunday, after doing more busy, boring stuff, we went to our new house. Guys, it’s looking like a real house! It has stucco and drywall and it’s awesome. The covered patio is going to be exactly what we wanted. While there, Wizard tried again to convince a pool will fit. He was laughing as he said it :-) It’s a darn good thing Youngest has a pool.

Speaking of youngest. He told me the cupcakes cookies I made him were good. Before I go on, these are like a thick and large chocolate chip cookie cup filled with a safe-to-eat cookie dough topping. They are sweet and rich. I texted to Youngest that “Dad ate two with ice cream.” Youngest evidently saw this as a competition and replied that he put peanut butter and chocolate sauce on his.” After some serious consideration, Wizard agreed with me that youngest won that weird competition.

Then Wizard added “Chocolate Sauce” to the shopping list. I swear it’s true.

I added “Tums” for obvious reasons.

In other news, I was trying to persuade myself to get rid of some old books that are falling apart. When I say old, I mean like a few are around 100 years. Some are totally falling apart. Wizard looked at them and said, “Absolutely not, we are not getting rid of these.” And he started planning a special display bookcase in out entry hallway. I don’t know if we’ll ever do it, but I love him for that. So much. We’ve been trying really hard to seriously downsize our stuff. For example, we tossed my wedding dress. We planned to take it to Goodwill, but when we opened it, it just wasn’t in a good enough shape. So we tossed it. (I did take a couple formal gowns in good shape that I hope someone else can buy cheap and use).

We also swapped the living room and family room furniture. We put the stuff we plan to move to the new house in the family room, and put the stuff we plan to sell or give away in the living room where we can take pictures, etc. It’s a solid plan, but it doesn’t looks right and my brain is lodging a protest, LOL. Packed boxes stacked on one living room wall aren’t helping either, but too bad. This is all working toward a goal, and my brain is going to have to learn to live with a little chaos for a few months.

So it was a good weekend. We missing seeing Turbo (our grandson), but we all seem to have stuff going on so we’ll all catch up soon.

How was your weekend?

I love your new pool. So stylish. And the colors go great with your design theme. :gigglesnort: Yay for your house looking like a house! And yay for yummy treats. Yay for Wizard telling you to keep your old books. There’s always room for books. Bummer about the wedding dress. I have a tough time letting go of stuff like that. I totally get it about your brain lodging a protest. I like things to be where they ought to be and when things are moved, my brain is all like ‘whoa, wait just a darned second there’. LOL

The weekend here was nothing. It’s too hot to really do anything outside the house and so I spent my time inside, reading and watching TV. I did make like a zucchini casserole thing. And I made a batch of cake cookies. Other than that, total slug here.

Okay. That is like the coolest backyard pool EVAH! I bet you could get whatever that extreme pool show is to come build it for you. ;) Yay for old books and Wiz’s declaration. I 💖 him just little bit for that myself. Yay for cookie competitions. I’m all for the ice cream! The idea of packing and moving sends me into a state of catatonia. I feel your brain! But yay for a house that’s a house! Maybe it’ll get back on track so you can move in on time. 🤞🏼

Weekend. It was hot. We made the soccer game and the breeze was good with a hint of cool so not so bad. The other team was short players so Stormy’s team loaned them him to play goalie so they could at least scrimmage. He played almost the entire game as goalie and then the last few minutes as a foward. His coach gave him the weekly sportsmanship medal. Awww.

Then we followed them to their house so they could drop off soccer stuff. Stormy was spending the night with his best friend so it was just adults. Sadly, no just adult things. Long story short, there was a shuffling of beds. They moved his old HUGE bunkbed setup out (being given to a grandmother who is getting custory of grandsons) and picking up an all-but-new hand-me-down loft bed with drawers, storage, and pull-out desk that takes up far less space and gives way more storage. They needed LG’s truck for that so we followed them to the boonies, loaded, headed back to their house to unload, and then finally got home. We took naps.

Sunday, LG did a hospital visit and ended up having to run another friend and his wife to the urgent care after she fell. Their truck wouldn’t run. They live about 30 miles away so it was late before he got home, hot and tired. Dinner was every-man-for-himself. I ate ice cream.

On a happy note, I used the new electric grill Friday night. I love it! It took about 3-4 minutes to preheat to “sear” mode which seals in the juice. I through the burger patties on, closed the lid and after 90 seconds of sear (at 500 degrees), it dropped to the 350 recommended for burgers. 8 minutes later, we had perfect burgers, juicy, done all the way through, and not greasy. The grease ran into the drip cup. Clean up was a breeze, and since I “toast” my bun under the broiler, I put the cheese on the burgers and put them down there after turning off the flame (gas stove/oven) to melt just right. Easy peasy. Since I have some ribeyes in the freezer, thanks to Uncle Fix-It and his client’s cattle ranch, I’ll be using it for that too.

Not looking forward to this week. 100 today but 104-107 for the rest of the 9-day forecast. 🥵🥵🥵 Hope everyone else has a great week!

    That pool is so cute!

Nice battle of the ice cream muffin/cookie is to much  . Guys are funny! Did you get Wizard the chocolate sauce and the TUMS?

It must be so much fun to watch the house come together. Harrison is loving watching their house build. Sunday we got a photo of him standing in the bathtub in his bedroom. We keep cheering them on about how fast the house is going up but to not expect it to be done early. They are not listening.

Wizard is SO sweet. I love OLD books. After you get moved and have the books in the display case do you think you’ll think about having them restored?

Switching the furniture around is probably a smart idea but I have to tell you, I’d be crashing into everything – creature of habit.

Sure hope you get to see Turbo soon.

Saturday we went to youngest’s house. It’s a cute little ranch, a little less than 1/2 the size of our house. HIs floor looks great. He still has the edging to finish in one room and to put down tile in the mudroom and the laundry. The dogs a re sweet and love their new home. It is out in the country like how I grew up – I love it.

We then went to dinner and the little town was having an old car show. These cars were real oldies and in prime condition. The brewery we ate at was very nice and the food was good (pub food but good quality).

Got hubs off to TN this morning. I’m sure Harrison is having a ball showing him all the new things, like where he’s going to pre-school in August and the house. Yes, they go look at the house every other day :-P .

It really rained here today for about 1/2 an hour. We could use a hard rain for a couple days but we won’t be getting it. The humidity is awful and the temps are going back up into the 90’s. I’ll be inside :-P . I do not envy Silver – 107F🥺.

Sure hope you are having a great day!

B.E., thank you on the pool, LOLOL!! We’re all different on what is emotionally valuable to us. I kept that dress happily for decades. I just reached the time where I chose to let it go. I had hoped to donate it, but even thought it was preserved the years took their toll. I was seriously happy to donate gowns that were only a couple years old and surprisingly “current.”

The heat is getting to everyone, even in other countries (look at Europe!). I hope we all get a break soon. I love zucchini so a casserole would work for me. I’ve been making stuff zucchini boats lately just as a a way to use my herbs. And cookies are always good.

Hope you have a good week!

Silver, snort! Can you imagine pitching that idea to the extreme pool show? As far as the house, it’s be nice if they did get us moved in sooner, but I’m planning on delays as much as we can plan. We just keep reminding ourselves it’ll all be worth it once we’re moved in and somewhat settled.

What a great experience for Stormy! You must be so proud of him! And absolutely deserved that Sportsmanship medal!

Getting Stormy that cool new-to-him bed moved it great! But it’s all a lot of work. Hopefully next time you have adults only time, it’ll be a little more fun.

So LG’s hospital visit was helping his friend and wife? Not himself, right? I hope the friend’s wife is okay. I’m very sorry she fell. That sounded like a long day.

The grill sounds great! It’s so nice to have options when BBQing isn’t always accessible for whatever reason (including heat). I especially like the easy clean up :-) Let me know how it goes with the rib eyes. And it’s nice to have relatives with clients who own a cattle ranch :-)

Hope your week goes well, and stay out of that heat!

Viki, we’re going shopping tomorrow and the chocolate sauce is on the list. We’ll see if Wizard gets it :-)

I’m mentally warning myself NOT to crash into furniture, especially if I’m walking around in the middle of the night. Plus the furniture doesn’t look right, and I’m just not thrilled. But we are doing what we need to do and trying to get more done now to do less later.

Maybe the house will be ready on time for Harrison’s family. But expecting delays is wise. I’m a little surprised we haven’t had more delays yet. The first phase has already moved in. I’m assuming your son is renting, and hopefully, if they do have delays, they can extend their rental. But moving is rarely easy no matter what. Wizard and I pretty much have lists of “If this happens, here’s our options…” As they move along in the process maybe they will adopt that approach too?

Your description of your son’s house makes me smile! First homes are special, and his even more so for all the work he’s put into it. And two sweet dogs add to the welcoming ambiance.

Glad your evening of seeing restored old cars and good fun at a pub turned out so nice! I like just trying things. Sounds like the day turned out great.

Harrison must be so excited to share everything with Grandpa!

I’m sorry for the icky weather there too. We all need a break!

Hope you and Spunk have a great night!

He went to visit a Korean War vet who is a friend who was in ICU with pumonary edema. Sarge was in LG’s old Legion post. A different friend had to get his wife to the clinic. She didn’t break anything, just big contusions and yes, he had a very long day. Still, he’s one of the good guys and unless there’s something family-wise previously planned, he pretty much drops everything to go help, despite his own physical limitations.

As for adult time, it ws just adults but it was fetch-and-carry, load and unload. Luckily, we didn’t have to stick around to put the bed together. The dad of the kid “giving up” the bed came over and helped put it back together. There’s a new baby coming so Liam’s school mate is losing his playroom to make room for the nursery, which means all his stuff had to go into his room. They had a wall of “cubbies” to store stuff that needed to go on the wall with the bed (too many windows in his bedroom, I guess.) Anyway, like I said, long story, info not relevant. LOLOL
