Friday Five

TGIF! Time to share 5 random things about our week. Here’s mine:

  1. Wizard and I finally made a decision on which living room furniture to keep (for now). We decided to keep the lighter weight stuff that we can more easily move it around for convenience in the new place. That means we had to get rid of the really old heavy furniture. We decided against donating it, just trust me on this. So we called for a pick up, then the two of us took TWO DAYS got carefully move it out of the house into the garage, then the next day from the garage to the curb. We did it with patience, careful lifting and a set of dollies. We were pretty proud of ourselves! Then the next morning the truck comes, and one guy hops out and loads all the pieces himself onto the truck in ten minutes. You know the sound the air going out of a balloon? That was the sound of our collective pride as we stood at the window watching this guy do it :-)
  2. We have a closing date on our house! August 29th! So we do a walk through on the 23rd, note all the issues (there always are little things, but hopefully not big). Then we go again on the 29th, sign off if everything has been fixed and close escrow. We are supposed to get keys sometime late afternoon (fingers crossed). However the dates are “subject to change” so we should plan accordingly. I am planning, for the closing date stated on the document we signed :-)
  3. Our is rental agreement for the house we’re in now has our last day as the 21st, but the owners have agreed to extend it to the 31st. Whew! That’s a huge relief as long as the house closes on time. We’ll be spending the next few days finding a mid-week moving company, or figuring out something. We will get it done. We are trying to make plans that doesn’t rely on the kids for actual moving since it’s midweek, then they can each come help as their schedule allows. There’s a lot of things we could use their help once the stuff is in the house (and they know as we’ve talked to them).
  4. Yesterday we took Maggie and went out to see Wizard’s mom and her husband. It was a nice visit. I swear, if you saw his mom you’d never know she’s 90! Anyway, we’ve noticed that Maggie seems to bring her joy, so we’re making more of an effort to take her. Maggie loves it. They pet her, tell her she’s pretty, give her treats and they have awesome backyard to play in. What more could she want? (She’s conked out on her chair right now, worn out from the visit!)
  5. We are planning a little gathering at Middle Son’s this weekend. That should be fun and I get to see Jett and Hazel, their two dogs. Maggie is going with us too (I think).  I’m hearing there’s supposed to be thunderstorms, so I’m hoping that doesn’t cause any traffic problems.

That’s my five, now I’d love to hear yours! I hope everyone has a great weekend!

Yay for making the furniture decision. Bummer about the young guy who could load it all by himself. Don’t feel too impressed, though.
He’ll pay for it when he’s our age. Yay for a closing date! Fingers crossed nothing interferes with it. Yay for having understanding buyers. Aww Maggie is so awesome. Yay for a weekend with Middle Son and the puptarts. I hope Maggie gets to go, too. =o)

    1) I think I’m finding my groove at work. Maybe. Some days are better than others and there’s SO MUCH to do. Let’s just say it’s a major juggling act and it’s hard keeping all those chainsaws in the air.
    2) Hubs found an auto mechanic that makes housecalls, so we didn’t have to have his Jeep towed to get it fixed. The guy got ‘er done and despite a slight burp, the bill was less than I feared it would be.
    3) They think Hubs’ mom might’ve had a heart attack at some point, so they ran her through the usual tests. She was supposed to get all the results and set up a game plan with her cardiologist yesterday. He’ll call her today.
    4) It hadn’t rained all month, but now it seems like Mother Nature is trying to make up for lost time. Rain, rain, rain. Yay. And with the rain comes lower temps. After weeks of heat, it’s only supposed to be 75 tomorrow. Also yay.
    5) If you’re not following Wild Heart Ranch on FB, you should be. They’re a wildlife rehab place in OK and they post the best videos of the critters they’re helping. They have this baby bobcat who is so awesome. And a crow they’ve released who stuck around to be their assistant in all things. They give me a happy.

Yay for closing date! Fingers crossed that the closing date holds and you can get loaded and moved before the extended lease runs out. Nice of the new owners! Yay for family time and awesome MiL and Maggie. My five are rather tame and boring. What else is new, right?

    1. It’s hot, though a little cooler today. There’s rain to the north of us. There’s rain to the south of us. There’s rain to the east of us. There’s rain to the west of us. Can we get any here? I’d really like to know who pissed off the weather gods.

    2. The “kids” across the street moved out this week. Long story. Her ex bought the house and moved her in. Then Covid hit. He worked the oil patch and lost his job. They broke up. He moved out. She stayed. She met new BF and he moved in. He’s a good, steady guy. They were trying to buy the house from the bank before foreclosure but things kept SNAFUing. They found a place they loved, bought it before the rates and market went crazy so now they are gone. They’re good folks and we’ll miss them.

    3. Right before they moved, a stray dog showed up. He liked the feral cat food. She made friends with him and got him to sit for a picture which she posted to the Neighborhood app. He had a collar but no tags or chip. When they came back for their last load, he was waiting on the front porch for him. So yeah, they took him with them, despite already having two dogs and cat. They’d already started calling him Clifford. As soon as I heard that, I knew they’d rescue him.

    4. My new “addiction” is watching compliation from “The Voice” worldwide. Yes, I’ll do anything to avoid doing what I need to be doing. Just sayin’…

    5. Yes, we have our tickets for tonight 1.1 BILLION$$ Mega Million lottery drawing. Can’t win if you don’t play. And we don’t play until it gets big enough that we could set up our non-profit “Just Because” foundation. Here’s hoping the lottery gods smile on us. Not holding my breath but hey, our luck’s gotta change sometime, right?

Have a great weekend all. If you are getting rain, I hope it’s not flooding. If you need rain, I hope you get it. Whatever happens, take a moment to just enjoy life. 🥰

B.E., thanks on all! The guy loaded the furniture was funny to us, and I bet he feels it at the end of the day let alone when he gets older. It’s hard work.

    1) That sounds both challenging and a little dangerous! Oh wait, maybe you meant metaphoric chainsaws :-) I know you’re up to the job!
    2) Yay for finding the mechanic who makes house calls! Any of those bills hurt, but you saved on not having to tow the car, so that helps too! Plus the convenience factor.
    3) I hope hubs mom is okay. Any event like that is scary and takes it’s toll, but it sounds like she’s (and her doctors) are on top of the situation. Hugs on the whole aging parents thing, it’s just hard.
    4) Enjoy the rain! As long as it stays in reasonable amounts, it’s all good. (Poor eastern Kentucky, I feel terrible for them).
    5) Thanks for the tip on FB! I wrote it down so I can take a look. I love animals so it’s sound like my cup of tea!

Hope you have a great weekend!

Silver, I agree, so nice of the new owners! We were dreading having to move twice. We haven’t been renters in so long, it’s weird, LOL.

    1) It’s like the rain is taunting you! Hope you’re able to get some soon.
    2) Sorry you lost good neighbors. But I’m happy they were able to buy a house in time. I feel for all the new buyers priced out now.
    3) Oh yeah, they were sunk. I’m so glad he didn’t sit there waiting and they never came back. They sound like good people.
    4) Addictions are one of the bets way to procrastinate. I’ve been watching a chef on super yachts lately. Why? No clue, I can’t eat most of the food she cooks, and I doubt I’ll ever be on a super yacht. Enjoy “The Voice” compilation!
    5) Anyone could win so why not you??? Isn’t it fun to think about???

Hope you have an amazing weekend and maybe a bit of rain will find you and us here. We both need it!

    1. It is so insulting the way younger people can come in and do things as if they are moving feathers.
    2. That’s fantastic on the closing date. I will continue to send up prayers that all continues to go smooth.
    3. It’s such a good thing that you have plans in motion so the house is really for you to move in.
    4. Maggie sure loves visiting people and I’m sure Wizard’s mom loved having her over. That’s fantastic that Wizard’s mom is in such great shape. It also bodes well for Wizard – having good genes.
    5. Sure hope there were no traffic issues and that all went well with your visit at Middles’ house. I bet Maggie had another great day and is resting comfortably.

1a. Middle and wife picked me up yesterday at 7:45 and we drove to western NY to see my mom.
2a. My mom looked pretty good but it was obvious she was working at it. She did look good.
3a. Spunk missed me like crazy. When I got home he was all over me and talking up a big storm.
4a. Stopped by my brothers on the way home to pick up fresh catnip from his garden for mine and middles cats. Brother is looking good. This coming Saturday he has the second PSA test and he and his oncologist will go from there.
5a. Allergies have been just terrible and then middle put the catnip on the seat right next to where I was sitting for the ride home. I asked him to move them and he did but I was already a mess by the time we got home.

Sure hope you have a fantastic weekend!

Viki, Maggie loves going anywhere :-) Okay let’s catch up with you now.

    1) That was awesome of Middle and his wife to take you!
    2) I’m glad you got to see your mom, and that she’s looking good.
    3) Sounds like Spunk had a lot to say about your being gone all day.
    4) I hope your brother gets good results from his PSA test.
    5) Ugh, I’m sorry the catnip trigger a miserable allergy attack. I hope Spunk appreciates all you went through for his sake! (I have to assume the catnip is for Spunk!)

Hope you have a good weekend!
