Wednesday Story and Happy Thanksgiving!

On Tuesday, the two long hallway mirrors we’d ordered were finally delivered. Yay! We can get the pictures up before Thanksgiving! Hanging the mirrors was a little tricky as our long hallway has two sections on each side. We wanted to hang the mirrors side by side on one section.  After repeated measuring and remeasuring, we got the first one up in about an hour and a half. Progress! Finally we got the second one up, and realized it was a bit higher than the first one. Okay…we pulled out the measuring tape, and Wizard bent down to measure from the floor to the bottom of the mirrors to find exactly how much to move it when…

We found a crack in the bottom right corner of the second mirror! Both of us just stared at the crack in shock. We had scanned the mirrors looking for obviously cracks, but neither one of us looked that closely or we’d have found it. Picture us both slapping ourselves in frustration. Then we snapped out of it, and spent another hour taking the mirror down and repackaging it. And then more time the next day hauling it to a UPS store to return it (I didn’t want to store this mirror while waiting for a pickup during the holidays). Now we have one mirror hung and it looks, well, awkward and annoying. But the house is a work in progress and that’s okay.  It certainly wont affect Thanksgiving and it’ll give the kids one more thing to tease us about :-)

To everyone celebrating Thanksgiving tomorrow I hope you have a warm and wonderful time with those you love!

Quick Programming Note: I’m guessing I won’t get a chance to post on Friday, but I’ll be back Monday.

Dang, that’s disappointing. And after all that work, too. I bet the one mirror looks fine by itself, but it annoys you because your brain is expecting two mirrors. :hugs:

I hope you have a Happy Thanksgiving with loads of great food and your family gathered around. We’ll be having a quiet Thanksgiving with just the two of us and a call to our moms. Which is just the way we like it.

Uhm…yeah. For perfectionists, that’d be a nightmare! Hopefully, when the replacement mirror arrives, it’ll fit the same hanger/holes already there and the differing height was due to the crack. Me? I’m more of a scattershot picture hanger. Hold it up, looks good, pound the nail in the hanger and voila! LOLOL

Since you don’t plan to do a Friday Five, I’ll tell my Pete story now. He finally came in last night and didn’t freak when I shut the door to the garage. I’d been in and out with laundry and had taken the basket back out and grabbed two items that had hanger-dried to fold and put up. He followed me in the houe and didn’t appear inclined to go out when I began to shut the door. I crossed the kitchen to our bedroom to put the shirts up and w he was still sitting there in the hall but not facing the door. I picked him up and carried him to the bedroom. After putting him on the bed and petting him, I got ready to get IN bed. I fell asleep.

When I woke up at 2:30 for…reasons, Pete came out of the closet to cheekrub my feet as I attempted to get out of bed. I stumbled to the bathroom, stumbled back to bed and then Pete jumped up next to me and got pets. Later, he moved to the foot of the bed and had an hours’ long staring contest with Loki. In the dark–well, except the TV was on. Long story that.

Anyway, he was still on the bed when I forced myself up at 6:30 and shortly after, he dove under the bed. Loki stuck his head under the bedskirt to continue the stare-off. Since Pete seemed disinclined to come out, I finally lured him with his gushy food. I picked him up and we went to the garage so he could eat.

No clue if he’ll ever come in again but I figure it’s progress. The dogs don’t care and mostly ignore him. Loki is being a cat about it but not agressive so…who knows.

Anyway, that’s my long-winded cat story for the week. Happy Thanksgiving! Enjoy family and/or friends and good food. Have a great weekend all, and if you go shopping, stay safe!

B.E, it’s a lot funnier now than it was on Monday! But it’s also good to remind myself the house is a work in progress and to enjoy it, not stress.

Thanks on the good wishes for T Day! Wizard and I have done the only us Thanksgiving’s and don’t mind that either. I hope you and hubs have a great day!

Oh man that is so frustrating. You guys made a great decision shipping the mirror back now rather than waiting for a pick-up. Things are crazy slow with deliveries so pick-up must be awful too. Are they shipping out a replacement right away or do they have to wait for the return to arrive first? I had that problem with a tree last year. They would ship the replacement until they had the defective one in house.

Well I did a ton of prep work and baked my super spicy pumpkin pie today. Tomorrow will still be tons of work but will flow much more smoothly than if I hadn’t done things ahead of time.

Harrison and family are not coming up. DIL is real sick. They think it’s the flu even though she’s had every shot on the planet. I told hubs the flu shot is only 60% effective so she drew the short straw.

I had a massage yesterday and she almost got my shoulder to lay down. It is so much better than it’s ben in years. I can see a difference when I look in the mirror. I need to make an effort to get there more often.

I hope everyone has a VERY HAPPY THANKSGIVING!

PS – Silver – I hope Pete does come in again. Sounds like he was getting comfortable and with winter setting in he’ll be much happier.

Silver, scattershot often works! We hang a lot of pictures that way. The two mirror thing was something Wizard wanted, and I agree as long as they looked even. The one we have hung is slightly tilted according to the level, but it’s not making my brain twitch so I can deal with that :-)

Wow Pete is moving in! He seems pretty confident in you if he sat and let you pick him up and put him on the bed. The fact that he stayed inside all night is even more amazing!

Pete and Loki’s stare off is interesting. Wouldn’t it be cool to know what they are really thinking? But if there was no fight, they are probably working it out. Progress is good!

TV on at night — either one of you needs it to sleep or one of the critters. I’m divided on guessing which one. I often have to play a YouTube video on my kindle as white noise to sleep, so I say do whatever works.

Hope you and your family have a great Thanksgiving!

Viki, Amazon said they are shipping the replaced right away and it should be here Dec 2nd. We’ll see, the first shipment was days late. But we’ve done our part, so now we wait.

I always do as much as I can ahead of time too. Great minds think alike :-)

I’m so sorry she’s so sick. It’s really bad right now. Both Wizard and I have noticed the cold and flu meds are hard to find, and shelves are nearly empty. I really hope she has a fast recovery! But I know you’ll miss them.

You must have an excellent massage therapist. I’m happy to hear you are feeling better as you tackle all the cooking today.

    Have a great Thanksgiving!!
