Weekend Roundup

I missed posting on Friday, sorry! So how was everyone’s 4th of July? Ours was good until our air conditioner died. It’s a 100+ degrees here and rather unpleasant (understatement!). Naturally the place we use for air and heating repairs was closed over the weekend so I’m calling them today. I’m leery of randomly calling places–I did that about 10 years ago and had a really REALLY bad experience. Hopefully the air will be fixed soon.

To escape the heat, Wizard and I went to the movies and saw THE FAULT IN OUR STARS. We really liked it. I knew it’d be emotional, and it was, but I liked it a lot.  I’m really fortunate that Wizard likes these kinds of movies, a lot of men don’t.

I just saw the first review for HER TEMPORARY HERO.  I’m so relieved that the reviewer liked it :-) I just can’t ever tell if a book will resonate with readers or not.  The full review is here if you’d like to see it.

How was your weekend?

Wednesday Worthy — Cover Edition!

I’m cranking hard on this book, and ti’s coming together, so yay!  I still have a LOT to write, but I’m feeling it now. You know something sad? Once I do get this book in (Please God!), I am actually looking forward to cleaning my house. I never thought I’d say that!

Okay, a lot of you have probably seen this on Facebook, but I want to show it here too. So for our Wednesday Worthy Candidate–here’s the cover of HER TEMPORARY HERO:

HTH_1600_(1) (1)

So do you think this guy on the cover is worthy or not? (FYI-no one is going to hurt my feelings–the publisher designs the cover, not me. I’m happy with it but I didn’t have much say beyond filling out a cover-art form.)

HER TEMPORARY HERO is up for pre order at several vendors, including Amazon, B&N and Kobo, but I’m not going to link it yet because right now it’s $3.99 and during release week of July 14th it will be 99 cents. That’s a much better deal!!

Happy Friday!

We’re counting down to the release of HER TEMPORARY HERO! I just saw the cover last night–it’s hot. There’s one last tweak they are doing. But otherwise, the book is ready to go!

Too bad this book I’m writing isn’t all done and ready to go yet :-) I’m doing a massive push now. But Saturday I’m taking a break to go to a graduation party. One of my nieces is graduating from high school and another from college. I won’t miss that! But otherwise, I’ll be racing against time on this book.

But when this book is done, I’m taking a week off (Why do people laugh and Wizard roll his eyes every time I say that? Really I am!! Well I’ll be getting ready to promote HER TEMPORARY HERO but still…I’m taking time off!)

What are your weekend plans?

Monday Roundup

Hope everyone had a great Father’s Day! Wizard’s was nice. BLB and his girlfriend came by and we had fun.

The workshop I gave on Saturday was a great experience. I wish I’d thought to take pictures, but I was too distracted by a fairly wicked case of nerves (I was the afternoon speaker so I had to wait hours!). I expected a small turn out due to Father’s Day weekend but people kept showing up. What’s really awesome is many old friends came and that meant so much to me (okay–I tried to talk them into leaving before my workshop–but they know me and ignore my special brand of insanity.) Once I got onstage and looked out at all the round tables filled with OCC/RWA members, I realized why I was more nervous than usual. I’ve belonged to this chapter since long before I was published, and I desperately wanted to share something of value with them. They have supported, inspired and consoled me through the years and that is not something I take for granted.

So I did the workshop to the best of my ability. I told the brutally honest story of my career, and how learning to better utilize tropes the conception, execution and marketing of my books was one of the things that helped me resurrect my career and gain some success. From there I went on to teach the process as I’ve learned it. For those who are wondering, tropes are easily recognizable themes used over and over because they hook readers; and they are in almost all stories and movies. Examples of tropes are marriage of convenience, ugly duckling, forbidden love, secret baby, good brother/bad brother, revenge, blackmail, fish out of water, etc.

When I finished, I was surprised at how many people stopped me or came up to me to tell me they really liked the talk. And I got some great feedback if I want to develop the workshop further which is great. It was a truly awesome experience and I always love talking to other writers and readers :-)

I also managed to finish my galleys (final proofreading) for HER TEMPORARY HERO and review a contract. Now I’m writing, writing writing!  Man I’m cutting it close but life has just been a runaway train lately.

Enough about me! Bailey is visiting! Wizard picked him up and brought him home. Here’s a cellphone picture of him in his toy basket.

Happy Friday and Father’s Day!

Bailey is coming this weekend! Saturday, Wizard and Middle Son are going to to a track to run their radio control cars, then Wizard will bring Bailey home for a couple days. Yay!  So by the time I get home from my RWA meeting,  Bailey should be here.

I’m doing the workshop too, I’ll let you guys know how it goes. I hope it turns out okay.  I’m thinking since it’s Father’s Day weekend, the turnout will be small.

So I’m living the dream–assuming my dream is to be a juggler. Sheesh. I’m trying to write one book due in two weeks while getting bombarded by copy edits and final proofreading for the one coming out next month, and contract stuff for the Brazil one and so many other things I can’t keep all the balls in the air. I just want TO WRITE THIS FREAKING BOOK.

But you know what? I still love my job :-)

Our Father’s Day will be quiet, I think. CPA Boy has been traveling this week, so he’s staying home as we’ll see him next weekend. Middle is seeing Wizard Saturday. BLB (youngest) may come by and Bailey will be here. I’m making Wizard a strawberry pie so he’s very happy.

What are your weekend and/or Father’s Day plans?

Wednesday Worthy

I know where my book is going! That’s good news, now I need the words to get it there :-) Once the workshop I’m doing on Romancing the Trope at my local Romance Writers of America Chapter is done–my life will be all about getting this book to The End!

And then it’ll be time to promote HER TEMPORARY HERO, but one thing at a time!

So here’s our quickly and randomly chosen Wednesday Worthy:

Happy Friday!

Friday again! Wow, it’s crazy. How is it Monday, I blink and it’s Friday?

It’s official now, HER TEMPORARY HERO has been moved up two weeks for release on July 14th. I’m getting excited but there’s too much to do to get ready for the reelase. At least I have Carla (my assistant) to help me. I hope that books makes readers happy.

Oh and I have my speech for June 14th written! It need a little tweaking, but the bulk of it is done. Wizard is so amusing–while I’m writing this speech he’s reminding me, “Tell them about your YEARS of struggle.” Umm, does he think I’ve forgotten? That made me laugh, and FYI there will always be struggles. But yes, Wizard, I will mention that.

And now I’m back to working on Hunt and Alyssa’s story.

So BLB’s (youngest son)  girlfriend texted me the other night that she’s getting a new dog. She works for a vet, and came across a four-year old golden retriever–I’m so happy for her and jealous! This is a very lucky dog though–BLB’s girlfriend is an animal lover, and the dog couldn’t have a better owner. But you had to see Wizard’s face when I showed him the picture and told him.

Wizard said, “We don’t have a room for a dog. Our back yard is all cement and pool and–”

I cut him off. “She’s getting the dog, not us.”

He narrows his eyes. “Is this a set up?”

“No. BLB’s girlfriend already loves this dog.”

He didn’t say anything else and we went in the Jacuzzi. Then like twenty minutes later, he randomly says,  “Golden retriever’s shed a lot.”

I cracked up. “Yes, I’m sure they do. But she’s not going to give me the dog. You know BLB’s girlfriend, she gets really attached and besides, the dog will be really happy with her. You’re safe.”

“Okay.” He relaxed marginally. “Because Bailey’s the only dog I would be willing to take.” He then went on to tell me how excited Bailey gets when Wizard goes over to Middle Son’s house.

Umm….I remember a time when Wizard didn’t really like Bailey and objected to Middle Son bringing  him over. Just saying, LOLOL!! But this really truly isn’t a set up :-)

This weekend, I’m going to lunch with Biker Witch (my sister). I can’t wait!

What are your plans?
