I missed posting on Friday! Sorry! The 4th of July threw off my schedule. Feel free to include anything that would have been in your Friday Five in a comment on this post if you like. For me, let’s recap a few things in a Friday Five fashion:
- We had a mostly good Fourth of July. Wizard and I went to an early dinner, then made sure we were home way before the fireworks started. We did our best to help manage her fear, and she did pretty well. She didn’t shake, pant or pace, and mostly just stayed close to me or Wizard. Still I hate that Maggie gets scared because she can’t understand the booming firecrakers. But overall, I’m proud of her, and us for helping her manage her fear better this year.
- I made a gluten and dairy free version of thin mint cookies. They are a softer, bigger version, but they work for most chocolate and mint lovers I’m going my best to stay busy while dealing with fatigue and other symptoms (like sudden, dramatic and gross, one-sided nose bleeds as I wait for surgery).
- Sunday, we went to a little pool party at youngest’s and had a blast. Turbo was there, and so was Daughter in law’s nephew who is a few years older than Turbo. Those two, plus Oldest and Youngest son, had more fun than should be legal splashing all of us, and other assorted pool antics. Food was great. As a bonus: I made a bruschetta I was happy with, and used basil and tomatoes from my mini garden
- Maggie had a bath last week and I tried to take pictures of her. The first two attempts she refused to look at me or the camera phone. Then I went over and sat on the wall to contemplate my life choices in getting a dog. Maggie saw me, came over and reluctantly agreed to one picture. Then she made the third pic look like a scared hostage photo. Yet two minutes before that, she was running all over the backyard terrorizing lizards and looking half her age.
- This week is working on Daughter in law’s baby shower (that’s fun stuff), a hair appointment, pre-op appointment, seeing Biker Witch and trying to stay out of the worst of the heat. Also…I’m thinking lemon shortbread cookies. We’ll see.
Now it’s your turn to share about your weekend and last week if you like! Happy Monday!

We missed you Friday! (Me, because I actually had 5 things! Glad it was just due to holiday. Yay for family time, good food, getting splashed and Maggie the Diva. She looks more like a diva in that 3rd pic than a hostage. Ugh on the health issues. 🤞🏼 the surgery is soon and that it takes care of all the issues! Sending healing thoughts your way! So, Monday follow-up, Friday Five style:
1. Rain. We had some! Friday and Sunday and maybe more this week. We needed it, at the cool temps that come with it. I can do without the humidity because…hard to breathe.
2. Saturday was 1st Saturday and soccer. We went to the first match then had to head out for the siren test so we missed the second match. We made it back for the 2 afternoon matches. This was a 3-on-3 tournament–smaller fields, no goalie, only 3 players from each team. It was fast and furious. Stormy made 2 goals. His new teammates and parents got to meet Jake. It was warm but there were canopies to hide under between games and Jake had ice water to drink.
3. Ju-Lo-Wri-Mo is going pretty well. I’ll start reading/edits with Chapter 17 today. I’m averaging at least 2 chapters a day, even though I took Saturday off. Made up for it yesterday with 4 chapters done.
4. Jake was not thrilled with the 4th. Or the 3rd, 5th, 6th, or 7th. Even though “civilian” fireworks are illegal, there are idiots who still set them off and not just on the 4th. During the worst of it, he got up on the bed with me. For the short bursts, he either hid in the closet or in the space behind the bed. Last night, LG tried to get out the door to see who it actually was so he could turn them in. He told Jake, “Let’s go get ’em!” And Jake started barking. Yay! Normally, we don’t encourage him to be a “barky dog” but I decided that was his first step to reclaiming his doghood over fear of the booms. (He also barks and whines at the answering machine voice. Don’t ask why. I have no clue! )
5. And sadly, I don’t remember what most of my Friday 5 things were. This should not surprise anyone. I don’t really have a Pete story for the week, except he and Loki have had the zoomies a couple of times and they chase each other. Pete will jump up on the bed and then he goes after my feet (under the covers) or any wrinkle in the bedspread. I mean like stalk and pounce. What can I say but…”Cat!”
So, that’s it for me. I’m enjoying my second cup of coffee, surfing the net and trying to get into work headspace. Have a great week, all!

Silver, thanks! I just haven’t been ready to use the word for my diagnosis online. Most people are great, some people have beliefs that I’m not ready to hear Plus certain words trigger trolls and I don’t have the energy for that. That said, I hate when people are cryptic and here I am being cryptic.
Okay now for you:
1) Humidity is all the Yucks for me!! But rain is good! We’re in 100+ heat and I’m not loving that either. But still — humidity is worse!
2) Whoa Stormy is at a level beyond my limited knowledge now! But yay for those fast moving games and Stormy scoring two goals! For the record, I know 100% that you will make sure Jake has enough water and shade, and that you know how to keep him from overheating. I hope Jake had fun too! Boy that sounds like a long day, but a good one.
3) I’m impressed you already have a good rhythm going. Great job! Keep us updated please!
4) They are total idiots!! I’m glad you said it all, I tried not to rant as I do every year. But I’m with you and Jake on this! Great job helping Jake handle it. I get not wanting a barky dog (I’m the same) but it’s also important to encourage the right barking. LG did good! The voice mail thing is funny. Maggie hates some cell phones alerts.
5) Well it makes sense to Pete Besides cats are so much fun to watch!
Enjoy your coffee and I hope you found your work headspace!!

1. It’s a good 4th of July if Maggie wasn’t terrorized by the fireworks. I feel so bad for the pets and Veterans. It has to be so hard on them.
2. You are doing a fine job keeping busy. The cookies sound like they are a hit. Oh those nose bleeds. Sorry, they stink.
3. Splashing the grown ups is so much fun. When it’s a miserable hot out, the splashes are wonderful. Homemade bruschetta from your own garden must have tasted like heaven!
4. Your Maggie photos are always a win. She is so funny hating having her photo taken. The third picture is killer funny.
5. You have another busy week. Sure hope you are able to stay out of the heat and sun. Have a great time with Biker Witch and lemon shortbread cookies will be amazing.
Nothing interesting happened over the weekend. Fireworks were set off every night. Spunk hates them.
Today I took hubs to his primary doc for his yearly and the doc issued orders for a sedated MRI. I have to wait for insurance to approve it and then schedule things. I hope the MRI is covered by ins.
It’s hot and humid here and the remnants of the hurricane should be here Wednesday. We need the rain so I will not complain.
Have a wonderful day!

Viki, I’m with you feeling bad for pets and veterans on and around the 4th. And New Years Eve. Thanks on all the rest! And the heat is pretty intense here, so I’m being mindful. Maggie and I walk before 7am, and we modify out pace and distance.
Poor Spunk!!! Cats are probably just as scared/confused by the fireworks as dogs.
I’m glad the doctor is requesting a sedated MRI, but I wish he’d done it the first time. I’m pretty sure you could have told him (or her) that hubs wasn’t going to be able to tolerate the small space with his condition. Hope the insurance covers it! They are pricy.
Ugh, you can always complain about humidity to me. We just have the heat, but humidity is okay. I’m so sorry. The rain is good though!!
Enjoy your evening!
