Friday Five

TGIF!! Let’s get right to sharing five random things about our week. Here’s mine:

  1. Wizard is sick with a cold, again. That’s twice in less than two months. I’m not happy with his immune system. Poor Wizard is a little worried what kind of witchcraft, I mean meals, I might conjure up to assist his immune system :-)
  2. This week, I did a bunch of small, boring chores around the house. Even Maggie is bored, LOL. But it feels good to get them done because they were bugging me. I have about 10 more I could do, but I don’t want to get carried away, LOL.
  3. I’m finally steadily reading Onyx Storm. I’m more than 80% through it and I like it, but for me, some of it is tedious. However, I still love the characters and they pull me back even when I get restless.
  4. I have Jury Duty next week. For us in CA, we call in each day of the week to see if we’re needed. Then once we go in, if we’re excused, then we’re done. It’s an okay system. Doesn’t mean I’m super excited, but I’ll do it.
  5. I so hope I don’t wake up with Wizard’s cold today (remember I’m writing this on Thursday night to post Friday morning) because I have plans to go to see my granddaughter! Wizard will stay home. My daughter in law is fine with it as long as Wizard isn’t running a fever or seem to have the flu or Covid. We tested him for both, and he’s negative so it’s a cold (it’s acting like a cold). I’m still going to err on the side of caution if I feel “off”. But I really want to see Baby Girl, her mom and their two dogs.

That’s my five, now I’d love to hear yours! I hope everyone has a great weekend and stays healthy!

Sorry to hear Wizard is under the weather. Colds suck. Yay for doing chores…I guess. Yay for reading! Bummer about the jury duty thing. I’m so glad we don’t have that system here. They give us one date, we call the night before to see if the trial’s still a go. If not, we’re done until the next go ’round. Fingers crossed you don’t get Wizard’s crud and that you can go see Baby Girl.

    1) I haven’t stepped outside the house since Saturday. Between the cold and the snow, it’s not an attractive prospect, and I don’t really have to.
    2) The wren in the garage seems really appreciative of his accidental captivity. He’s living at around 40F when the rest of the birds are faced with -5 to 15. Plus he gets all the suet nuggets he can eat.
    3) I’m really feeling good about how this book is turning out. I hope readers feel the same way when it hits the shelves.
    4) I love stopping by here. It’s one of my few morning bright spots on the internet.
    5) I love my Boyz, but some days I’d like a puppy.

Poor Wiz! Get well soon! Also whipping up some good health spells in his name. Small and boring has to be done and yay for getting them out of the way. Yay for finally reading. Can’t comment on the book because I couldn’t get past page 1 of the first book. 1st POV just pushing my turn-off button. :( I’d say enjoy jury duty but… Ah, the stories I could tell! 🤞🏼 *fingers crossed* you get to see Baby Girl, DiL, and puppers today! Okay, my five:

    1. Baby, it’s STILL cold outside! 🥶🥶🥶 We’ve broken like 6 long-standing records for things like coldest low and coldest high temps on the same day. I’ve stepped out to get mail, feed birds and ferals but that’s it!

    2. I’ve ordered author copies of the print versions for MOONSTRUCK: RETRIBUTION and GHOSTS & THE ANCIENT STONES. Now I have to figure out how to get the print books linked with the digital on the ‘Zon. So far, my dashboard isn’t letting me. I guess I’ll have to go to support. Ugh. I still have one more book to get set up for print that should have already been in print. That’s on the agenda for today.

    3. Every time I see the WeatherTech commercial with the four little old ladies, I want to write a “Granny Brigade” road trip book. I have no idea what to write next as it is! And I sure don’t need some crazy standalone.

    4. I’m the one stuck in a reading slump now. I have two books partially listened to and no gumption to keep listening. Sadly, there’s nothing else out there that’s caught my attention. At this point I’m 16 or 17 books behind schedule to meet my reading goal of 200 books this year. Oh woe is me! What am I to do?!?!

    5. Pete’s favorite thing is rolled up foil wrappers on mini Reeces Peanut Butter cups. I usually eat 3 at a time and I started making a “ball” out of the wrappers to “basketball shoot” into the trashcan from bed. I missed one time and Pete went bananas! He’ll bat one across the bed, hunt it on the floor, chase it room to room. Well, Loki decided to steal one this week. I had a bed-side seat to a USA/Canada style hockey match. I truly resembled the ROFL emoji! 🤣

We’re above freezing tomorrow–allegedly. Stormy has 2 soccer games so we’ll get out. Not much else going on. Hopefully, there will be some softball on TV. I haven’t looked yet. If not softball then maybe Spring Training baseball! Have a great weekend, all!

    1. Poor Wizard. These colds seem to be swinging back on many people. Knock on wood, I haven’t had a cold. I hope you stay cold free too. Seeing baby girl is very important, so NO cold.
    2. Small chores are great. When I do a bunch of them I feel like I’ve accomplished a ton of stuff. It feels good. I feel bad for Maggie that she’s bored too.
    3. I’m glad you got back to Onyx Storm. I have loved it. I still don’t know how it ends because I had 40 pages left when I had to return it to the library. I’m 153 in line to get it again.
    4. If you do have to do jury duty, I hope you get an interesting case.
    5. Here’s to staying healthy and getting to see middle and the entire family.

1a. It’s still yucky here. It’s beginning to warm up. We’re above 20 today but we have another 4 inches of snow in the driveway. C is stopping by on his way home to snow blow.
2a. Tomorrow I’m picking C up and taking him to pick up his truck. It had a recall but because he modified the truck the GM won’t cover it. So he’s taken it his friend’s shop and it should be done in the morning.
3a. Harrison got 2 inches of snow Wednesday morning in TN so school has been closed all week. He has spent quiet a bit on time Facetiming hubs. It’s cute.
4a. I decided to do something similar to Shake N Back chicken tonight and I can’t get the commercial from when we were kids out of my head. The little southern boy yelling, “And I helped!” 😂
5a. I have no big plans for the weekend. It will be boring but good.

    Have a great weekend!

B.E, cold’s do suck! I felt fine today so saw the baby :-) And man, I wish we had your jury system here too!

    1) I would hibernate inside too if I had to deal with your cold and snow :-)
    2) Seems like the wren is a pretty smart bird and found himself a nice apartment setup in your garage.
    3) Oh if you love the book, I bet readers do too! It’s a great feeling to have, isn’t it?
    4) You made my day to read that you love stopping by here!
    5) Aww…the pull of a dog is huge. I know how it is, and it doesn’t diminish your love for your kitties. It’s just that you have a big heart for animals (just as the wren living rent free in your garage, LOL).

I hope you have a great weekend!

Silver, thanks, Wizard’s cold does suck but he’s feeling better than the first couple days — progress! And I got to see my granddaughter, the puppers, and my daughter in law. It was a good day.

    1) When I see the national weather, I feel for all of you living through the cold and storms. Hope the ferals and birds are hanging in there.
    2) Dang I was hoping you could get them linked on your dashboard without support. But they should be able to help you quickly (fingers crossed you get a helpful support person).
    3) But a Granny Brigade book could be another series! A hilarious one! Just saying…okay I’ll shut up. But I know a part of your brain is thinking about it, LOLOL! Writers can’t help themselves.
    4) Why does our motivation on reading nosedive like this? I get in that “can’t find anything to catch and KEEP my interest” way too much lately. I wish I could help!
    5) Pete could totally represent in Foil Wrapper Hockey! Plus I’d love to meet the ref who could control the cats :-) I’m glad Pete loves his “new toys!”

Hope Stormy has great games! They are some tough kids to play in that cold. Actually the kids are fine, it’s the parents who freeze. And I’m sure you’ll find some good games to watch. Enjoy!

Viki, I’m in the that last 5% of the book (I’m reading on my Kindle so can’t judge the page count). I made myself stop reading last night so I wasn’t keyed up thinking about the ending when I went to bed :-) Baby Girl was great today, the dogs were happy to see me and I enjoyed hanging with DIL. I needed a day out!

    1) C is such a great son to do that. You still have a lot of snow, I hope it warms up and gives you a break.
    2) And you’re a great mom — looks like you both help each other out. And yep, modifications void warranties. Not that that stops anyone from doing them! Including Wizard and my sons :-)
    3) Oh my gosh, that is cute! Facetime is great for helping long distance relationships. I love it.
    4) LOL! I remember that commercial well. And Wizard STILL torments his older brother that line. It still drives his brother up the wall and I laugh. I’m sure you’re version will be delicious!
    5) As long as your happy with the weekend, then it’s perfect.

I hope you get some warmer days to enjoy this weekend!

I should have explained–it’s INDOOR soccer season. Which is kinda fun in it’s own way. There’s no out of bounds. The kids play the caroms off the walls, which gives a whole new dimension to the game. Kinda like hockey but on fake turf with a ball instead of on ice and a puck.
