Friday Five
TGIF! This month is speedy by for me, how about for you guys? So now that Friday has arrived, let’s share five random things about our week.
- We reshuffled the week because a lot was going on. So I went shopping on Monday when I normally go on Tuesday. It was not exciting, but at least I got it done.
- Tuesday was a day Wizard stole from me
He schedule the mustang to get new shocks. This is all fine, except that required both of us to drive separate cars to another city far, far away. Okay not that far, about 30 miles one day. But still….we dropped then car off. Then waited around all day until it was done to them go pick it up. The upside of all this is Wizard found this garage that works specifically on cars like the Shelby, and he’s really happy. Plus we got to see a race car there, so that was cool.
- Biker Witch and I went to lunch. I managed to jump on the wrong freeway…which sounds stupid and it is. However, I genuinely thought we were going that way because I was going that way for the next two days. My brain was a little ahead of schedule. Biker Witch and I had fun — we haven’t had a lot of time to talk lately, so it was nice to catch up.
- Thursday we went to see Turbo (our grandson!), who is on Spring Break. We went to lunch then took him shopping at Target for his 7th birthday. Turbo picked out a bunch of Monster Trucks — one of his favorite things
Thankfully his mom and dad don’t mind. We honestly don’t spoil him often, so they let us indulge him on his birthday or for special things. Here’s a pic of me with him yesterday, he’s growing up so fast.
- Today we have to trek out to another city for an appointment to hopefully get TSA precheck. We don’t have plans for air travel at the moment, but we’re doing this in case we fly somewhere to make it easier for Wizard. He has some mobility issues these days, but he sure doesn’t let that stop him. That’s in the morning and we should be home in time for me to do some laundry and other tasks that I just couldn’t get to this week. And I think since we’ve put on 100s of miles on the cars this week, we’re going to skip Turbo’s game on Saturday. On the other hand, we could change our mind and go. At least we can take Maggie and she won’t be left home for the third or fourth day in a row. We do enjoy his games.
That was some of my week. Overall it was good, just a busy week. Now it’s your turn to share your five random things. I hope everyone has a great weekend!

Getting shopping done and over with is good, no matter what day. Good mechanics are worth the drive! Yay for Biker Witch time, even with “detours.”
Turbo is getting sooo tall! What a handsome young man.
And yeah, y’all will go to his game. And take Maggie! Okay, my five.
1. Monday, the kitchen sink stopped up. Vinegar, baking soda, and judicious plunging cleared it.
2. Today, the garbage disposal is “frozen.” I’ve hit it with WD40 and will get the big, long screwdriver out to pry the blades loose at some point. We don’t use it (pipes too prone to clogs), though I run it every day or so to keep it from freezing. I think the vinegar/soda backup is the cause. Like me, it’s old and cranky.
3. Thursday, I kept hearing this…well, it sounded like a mutted jackhammer. I traced it to the air vent pipe that runs from our storm shelter to the roof. I made LG come in to listen–so it wasn’t just me!
We finally figured out it was a woodpecker. It didn’t appear to be trapped and the ratta-tat-tat stopped late afternoon, though he’s been back briefly this morning.
4. This also explains why Loki and Pete were glued to the heater closet all of Tuesday. The heater was making weird noises despite being turned off. After discovering the woodpecker, I realized it was the same sound. Silly bird got into the heater vent too but obviously got out as well.
5. The closest thing to a Pete story this week is above. Instead, I’ll mention the city worker who stopped while I was out in the driveway tossing bread and dog kibble out for the crows. He wanted to know where the big dog was. Evidently, any time Jake is out and the guy is around, he stops, comes to the gate and pets Jake. I finally figured out that he was part of a water crew working on a neighbor’s water line and they needed in our backyard. They all loved on Jake at the time. He’s a good boy. Jake, not the worker. The worker is just a good guy.
Stormy’s B-day (11) is tomorrow but no plans that I’m aware of. They’re on spring break and he’s been in soccer camp. My Cowgirls are playing on ESPN+ so it’s softball for me. I’m flexible if anything else comes up.
Have a great weekend, all!

Silver, it’s very true about a good mechanic, and Wizard is crazy-protective of the Shelby
I really have doubts about going to the game tomorrow, but it could happen! Maggie would love it.
1) Sink stopping up is not a good way to start the week.
2) Pretty sure the garbage disposal and sink are in cahoots! I put as little as possible down my garbage disposal as we’ve replaced a few of those in our time. I don’t blame you for being careful!
3) It’s a distinct sound if you can get close enough. There’s a woodpecker on my morning walk working on a row of trees. I didn’t know they could or would get into air vents. Hopefully he finds a better target and stays out of your vents and buildings!
4) I bet!! I can imagine Pete and Loki wanted to find that woodpecker in the worst way! At least he’s finding his way out of the vents.
5) It’s a Jake Story!!! I can so see the workers asking to see Jake. That’s just too cute. Jake is a good boy!
Happy Birthday to Stormy!! He sure is growing up. Is 11 preteen, or is that 12? In any case, let’s not rush him, he’s doing great! Hope the Cowgirls give you a great win and you have a nice weekend!

1/2. Shuffling days can be disruptive to say the least. I’m happy you were able to get your shopping done and take care of the Stang. Those days waiting around for the car can be very boring. I hope you and Wizard found fun stuff to do while the shocks were replaced.
3. Lunch with Biker Witch is a win. Going the wrong way was just your brain giving you a little adventure 🥰. It is true that we get things into our heads and they kind of take over, aka going on the freeway you will be using.
4. Look at that handsome young man💕! My how they grow up without us even realizing. A few monster trucks is a wonderful birthday present.
5. Planning ahead with the TSA pre-check is good thinking. You never know when you guys will it to head to Italy 🤣🤣🤣(That just flew into my head. Are you going to Italy)? If you go to Turbo’s game have a great time. I know Maggie will love going.
1a. Didn’t post yesterday because I kept getting caught up in a computer mess. All is fine now.
2a. It’s a cold damp Saturday here. I had planned on racking the leaves out of the ditch but I will think about that tomorrow when it’s dry.
3a. I went tot the store Wednesday to get hubs milk (I hate milk so it’s his) and when I got there I remembered they were having a 1 day $0.99/# sale on turkey breasts. I bought the smallest one they had and that will be Sunday’s dinner. I love turkey.
4a. A letter came yesterday from the VA saying hubs hearing request was denied. Then on page 3, with no explanation, is a chart of monthly allowance from 2/21 to present, figuring cost of living increases. I got out my trusty calculator and started doing my math and that is what the check is for that came on Wednesday. When I tallied it all up the amounts were the same. So, it’s seems when I requested VA hearing compensation they decided to start giving him his monthly VA benefits that he had been denied in the past. I’m still holding my breath that they will say they made an error and to send the money back. We’ll see.
5a. Did you see the kids at the White House yesterday? It was National Down’s Syndrome Day and RFK, Jr hosted a party for a bunch of the kids and their families. It was SO heartwarming to see all those HAPPY children.
I hope you have a fantastic weekend!

Viki, nope, we don’t have plans to go to Italy at the moment :-). I doubt Wizard would be up to it, but I sure would! We really are just planning ahead to make any air travel easier for Wizard and I will certainly appreciate it too. And thanks on Turbo, he really is growing up. We had fun with him, and he has a massive Monster Truck collection.
1) I’m glad you got the computer mess sorted out! When technology glitches, it’s a huge time suck and stressor!
2) Seems smart to wait for a dry day to rake the leaves.
3) That’s a good deal! I love turkey too!
4) Wow is that confusing or what??? But if they did get his monthly benefits approved and active, that is a good thing. But what a head-scratcher trying to guess what the heck they are doing!
5) No. I missed that! We were super busy yesterday so neither of us caught that. I’m sorry I missed it. I don’t know if it’s true or not, but the few kids with Down’s that I’ve seen are so sweet, very empathetic and generally happy.
Hope you have a good weekend too!
