Friday Five

TGIF!! We blinked and it’s Friday again! You know what that means, time to share five random things about our week:

  1. My brother in law has been unwell this week (Biker Witch’s Hubby). He’s getting the care he needs and so far, is feeling better. But these days, I like to worry about everyone. And Wizard has his hands full doing what he can for his mom who is dealing with the issues of aging.
  2. Wizard got his TSA Pre-check clearance! He was starting to get a complex about that, LOL. He’s thinking about taking a trip to his brother’s house (he lives in Oregon). I’m nudging him to do it. And, I’ve been looking at vacations for us, but that was mostly window shopping at this point :-)
  3. Okay, guys, I did it! I got the weave done on my hair, so now silver is threaded through the brown, and it should blend as the gray grows out. So far, I really like it! And I won’t have to get it colored every four weeks now. I will probably want to add low lights over time as more gray comes in, but right now, I’m happy to try something lower maintenance and see how I like it.  Here’s a front and back picture from the back to get an idea (Ignore how I look — these were quick pics Wizard took for me outside in the wind):
  4. I made sourdough bread this week. I only mention that because today I tried a new stew recipe that’s still simmering in the crockpot now as I write this. It’s a long recipe and I mixed up measurements on two ingredients and now I’m worried it won’t be good. So see? If if I fail with this recipe, at least we have fresh sourdough so it’s not a total loss! And I don’t have to feel like a total loser, LOL. But okay, even if this version doesn’t come out, I should be able to figure out how to make it better next time. I always had a standby packaged stew mix that I used for years because it was relatively fast and easy and Wizard liked it — then the company changed the packaged formula and it’s not good. So I’m experimenting.
  5. Today I have a quick tele-appointment with my endocrinologist in the morning. I expect that to go pretty well. This weekend, I don’t have any big plans as of yet (I’ve kind of held off making them to see how my brother in law is just in case my sister needs something). Next week though I’ve planned to take my daughter in law to lunch (with Baby Girl!) on Wednesday for her birthday, and then they are all coming out that weekend for a visit so we can see our son too. We may go to Turbo’s baseball games on Saturday, but we’ll see.

That’s my five, now I’d love to hear yours! I hope everyone has a great weekend!

Sorry to hear about your BIL. All positive thoughts head his way. Yay for Wizard’s pre-check clearance thingie. Wow, I love your new hair! Lookin’ good, pretty lady. Eh, stew is hard to mess up too bad. Which ingredients did you mix-up the measurements on? Yay for fresh bread! Good luck with your tele-appt, fingers crossed for your BIL, and yay for lunch and baseball.

    1) I’m so far behind on my to-do list it’s ridiculous.
    2) It would probably help if I hadn’t eschewed the list to make cinnamon rolls, but I wanted cinnamon rolls.
    3) I’m back to reading more. I finished two books already this week and I’m making headway on a third that should be finished tonight.
    4) I need to go to the thrift store today to see if I can find stuff for my next book cover.
    5) One of my nephews just started work at the family business and he’s doing really well, from what I hear. Yay. I thought none of the next generation would ever want to step in, so whew.

Sending good thoughts to BiL & MiL! And you and Wiz for being awesome worriers and fixers. Yay for TSA good news and possible trips. LOVE the hair! Stew and sourdough is a winning combination. Hope the weekend plans all work out for the best. Okay, my boring five.

    1. I gave up on the garbage disposal. I got one set of blades unstuck but not the other. After days of messing, I’m done. If/when we ever decide to sell the house, I’ll get a new one put in. Not like I use it anyway.

    2. I bought a new pair of flipflops. They were $13. My Scotch ancestors are spinning but hey! They fit and they are COMFORTABLE. I can’t wear the cheapies. They hurt my feet and my back kills me.

    3. If I’d been playing The Price is Right in person, I would have won a double showcase. I missed the actual price by $176. Of course, if I went, I’d never get picked and if I got picked, I wouldn’t win the bid, and if I did win the bid….well, you know.

    4. My heroine FINALLY revealed her name! This feels like a major accomplishment. Aisling Goodnight. (Aisling is pronounced Ash-ling or Ash-linn, depending on where in Ireland. She prefers the silent G.)

    5. Pete decided to help LG with the litter boxes. LG took over that duty while I was in the hospital and he just does it now, every morning. There are 2 boxes, plus “puppy pads” because Loki likes to #1 on them rather than in the box, though he #2’s in the box. Cat. Anyway, while LG was scoopig the boxes, Pete started scratching at the pads, bunching them up into a wad, which he then kicked into the nearest box. While LG appreciated the assistance, those were clean pads he’d just put down. ORANGE cat logic!

No soccer this weekend but we may take Stormy on a roadtrip to a chuckwagon festival at a Chisholm Trail museum. Waiting to hear back if he’s interested. If not, we’ll watch baseball, softball, and maybe college equestrian. Hope you get to see Turbo’s game. Have a gret weekend!

    1. I’m very sorry about your BIL. I hope he recovers swiftly. I’m also keeping Wizard and his mom in my prayers.
    2. 😄Wizard getting his pre-check approval. I sure hope he does go up to his brother’s house. Maybe you can plan a small trip within the US. A vacation sounds wonderful no matter what!
    3. Your hair looks great. Not having to keep up on the roots sounds like a dream.
    4. My tongue is watering for sourdough bread😊. I hope the stew is fine. I’ve never made stew with a mix. I have always done it “free hand.” Like you said, if it’s not to your liking you have yummy bread.
    5. I hope you get to Turbo’s game. Going out to lunch with baby girls for her mom’s birthday will be so much fun.

1a. I finally replaced my daily wear sketchers. They were over 15 years old and a hole opened up in the toe on the left foot. Trying to find a pair similar was hard but I think I succeeded.
2a. I haven’t read one page in a week. Every time I go to read I fall asleep. It’s that dang time change – I have to blame something 😄.
3a. I’m making my 30+# pan of lasagna Sunday. A & A and C & C are coming over. I picked up a lemon cake at Aldi to save me time. I’m looking forward to seeing people other than hubs. I bet he’s looking forward to seeing someone other than me too 🤣.
4a. It’s getting warm here. C talked me into buying a canoe so that he can take hubs out and not over work hubs kayaking.
5a. I hope to get some clean up done in the yard this weekend. Hubs used to do the yard. I never did any of it because of my allergies I don’t go outside. But it looks awful so I’ll drug myself and get to work.

    Have a great weekend!

B.E., thanks on my brother in law. I think he’ll be ok, but he’s had a tough time. And thanks on my hair. The stew was not good, and it’s definitely on me. So for reference, I used a package seasoning mix that I added after I browned the meat, then add vegetables an hour or two before serving so they’d cook through. For this recipe I tried, in mixed up the tomato paste and Worcestershire sauce. I generally don’t like Worcestershire sauce so that was really dumb. Anyhow, I’ll figure it out one day!

    1) To Do lists are nags, just saying…
    2) Remake the To-Do list and putting cinnamon rolls on top! Then you got the most important thing done :-) I mean they are important as well as delicious so you wouldn’t be wrong.
    3) That’s a good feeling! I love when I am on a reading roll.
    4) Hmm, are you looking for cover inspiration in the thrift store or do you take pics and use the images in the cover? I’m just curious.
    5) That’s very cool that your nephew wanted to join the family business! I hope he thrives in it!

    Have a great weekend!

Silver, thanks on my hair and the other stuff. The stew was sad but the bread was very good!

    1) Hope your garbage disposal rests in peace. Seriously they are a pain, but I do need mine for all the small stuff that gets through. You’re a better woman than me at managing that!
    2) Tell your Scotch ancestors that $13.00 is a good deal. I pay a lot more for mine. I’m like you and can’t tolerate the cheap ones. Also, I have Scotch ancestors too :-)
    3) But the point is, you would have won if you had been there! Now if only you had that actual prize in your hand.
    4) That’s a pretty name, and strong too!
    5) Hmm that sounds very much like Pete Logic — he’s a unique and very funny character! Or he’s very finicky about which of the clean pads he finds acceptable, LOL. Either way, how do you not laugh?

Ohh, that might be fun if Stormy is intersted! I know he’s getting to the age of socializing more with friends and teammates. So far, we’re planning to go to Turbo’s game, I just need to follow through and let his parents know. Enjoy your weekend!

Viki, thanks on BIL and my MIL and Wizard. And for my hair — I don’t really know what others think, but this is a good transition for me. I’m not ready to fully embrace silver, but like the salt-n-pepper effect and it should be easier to maintain.

    1) Yay for succeeding in finding a replacement. And wow! They lasted that long? I have dedicated very good walking shoes and can barely get six months out of them, averaging between 10 and 14 miles a week.
    2) I struggle with falling asleep when reading too. Blaming the time change is as good as anything else. I’m certainly not going to blame it on age and stress :-)
    3) What a wonderful meal you’re planning! That lasagna is a ton of work, so it was smart to pick up a cake. Can’t go wrong with lemon, I really do think most people like it. I hope you have a great time, and I know everyone will appreciate all your effort!
    4) I’m not up on kayaks and canoes, but I know C is so it sounds like a good idea to me. And it has to be good for hubs to get out and do something he enjoys with C.
    5) Yikes, I feel for you dealing with allergies and yard work. It can be miserable, so I hope you’ve found some medication that helps. That’s one reason we tried to make this house lower maintenance, but we still have some and occassionally battle allergies.

I’m looking forward to hearing how Sunday’s dinner turned out on Monday. Have a great weekend!
