Friday Five

TGIF!! Time to share random things about our week. Here’s mine:

  1. It’s hot this week. But I am not complaining given what other states (like Kentucky and Tennessee) are going through. I feel for all the people suffering from the flooding.
  2. We all know Maggie hates having her picture taken and always looks like a goofball. And to prove it, here’s one I took yesterday. I can’t explain why she makes these weird expressions. Maggie is just gonna be Maggie!
  3. This week, I’ve been into pretending I’m a gardener. For the record, I’ve been known in the plant world as a serial killer, so this faze won’t last. But I’m trying! We’ve gone through six large bags of potting soil, filled four barrels with plants and flowers, plus some assorted pots I had (because I’d murdered the last residence of those pots). And I lost count of the trips to Home Depot and Lowes. But I feel we’re making some progress on the paver patio. So called, because it’s has cement squares that are sort of pavers. Our regular patio is normal poured cement and therefore called “the patio” or sometimes if I’m feeling fancy, “the wine patio.”  There’s no real reason to call it a wine anything, except that once in a while we’ve had a glass of wine out there :-) Back to the paver patio, it’s a bit of an odd space, but we’re tackling the challenge.
  4. Speaking of the paver patio, I was showing Wizard a couple patio chairs on my phone and asking if he liked them. He responded, “We’ll need to have someone out to build a gazebo to make it usable for more than a couple hours a day.” Then he frowned and asked me why I was blinking like a hostage under a bright light. Umm…because I had a two hundred dollar idea that he just turned into several thousand dollars!!! He laughed when I point that out. What I didn’t say is that the a couple of the palms we planted in barrels will give us some shade there in a couple years.
  5. We are planning to go to Turbos game Saturday if it works out. It will be hot, so we may go for the last half the game then go to Turbo’s house afterward for a while. Today I told Wizard I’d make pizza for him and he’s pretty excited about that :-) He’s not hard to please.

That’s my five, now I’d love to hear yours! I hope everyone has a great weekend!

Mother Nature is off her meds again. Maggie will be Maggie–such a good girl! I have a black thumb so I feel your plant panic. 🤞🏼 crossed for pretty flowers on ALL the patios. Ah, male brain space. It’s an amazing place. Yay for possible Turbo Time™. Hope y’all get to go to his game. And finally, yay for pizza! Okay, my five:

    1. LG has decided that Jake might need a friend. Odd pics and videos of rescues and rehome requests keep showing up on my phone. I’m not opposed but…

    2. Speaking of “pets,” Dennis the Menace (the newest feral/stray) may not be either. I caught him running over from a house across the street. The family there apparently (according to their neighbor whose been in the ‘hood even longer than us) has cats but don’t keep them inside and pretty much ignore them until one of the kids wants to play with it. I’ll keep feeding because I’m a sucker.

    3. Our weather is really nice. I’m enjoying no heat or AC on. I might switch to summer linens on the bed this weekend. We’ll see. I did switch from fleece PJ bottoms to cotton bottoms.

    4. I’ve had absolutely zero sales at the ‘Zon this month. I has a sad. No clue on the D2D outlets. Ah well.

    5. LG was up the other morning when I went out to feed the ferals on the front porch. When I cam back in, Jake was at the door, with Pete sitting beside him-both staring intently through the screen. Loki was on the dining room table, also staring out the door. LG was just standing there. I asked him why he was there. “It seemed important,” he said. “Since all the animals were intent on watching over you while you dealt with the intruders.” Good to know I have backup should the ferals ever decide to invade the house.

Have a great weekend, all. Laundry on Saturday, soccer on Sunday for me.

    1. Sorry it’s been so hot out there. I can’t stand the heat , so I really feel for you.
    2. I love Maggie. This time she’s sticking her tongue out at you because she doesn’t want her photo taken. She’s too funny.
    3. I’m glad you’re giving the green thumb another go. Who knows, you may become a reformed plant killer.
    4. I love Wizard. You know he’s right. You love being outside and w/o a cover you won’t really get to sit in those chairs much.
    5. Have a wonderful time at Turbo’s game. Here’s to him giving his grandparents a fun day watching him show his talent.

1a. I got my hair done today. Had highlights added. It really needed them. It was boring.
2a. Spunk is mad at me because I was gone most all day. I had to go to the post office to mail the State taxes. For some stupid reason we weren’t filed electronically so I couldn’t pay electronically. Now I’m praying the checks, 2024 and pre-pay 2025, get there by Tuesday and are recorded.
3a. It’s been cool and gray here. We’re not supposed to have warm er temperatures for over a week except for this coming Monday. It’s supposed to be 68F but rain.
4a. I ordered these pills that are for menopausal women with hip pain. Seems in many cases it’s the tendons causing the pain. Well, I have to admit, they really help. I’m shocked.
5a. I think I picked out the new washer and dryer. I have to go look at them at Home Depot and measure. Here they are – Maytag 5.3 cu. ft. Washer and 7.4 cu. ft. Smart ELECTRIC Dryer with Extra Power Button.

I hope you have a fantastic weekend!

Silver, Maggie is excellent at being Maggie :-) I want so much to have a green thumb and lots of beautiful plants but I’m not going to give it big odds, LOL. However my fake tree inside the house looks amazing if a little dusty at times! And the male brain is not a space I’d want to be trapped inside of for long. It was bad enough hearing their internal thoughts as a writer!

    1) More dogs!!! Do it!! Don’t let any kind of reason or common sense or annoying practicality get in the way! Wizard is warning me now that Maggie is our one and only dog because he knows I’d become a certified dog hoarder without supervision :-)
    2) Dennis the Menace seems like a smart cat! I think you should continue to support that intelligence if you can.
    3) Well, being dressed in weather appropriate jammies is important! And yay for lovely weather!!
    4) The sales numbers do sound suspicious, and I’ve had similar experiences. My opinion is lengthy so I’ll try to sum it up — I believe the platforms are more supportive of NY Publishers and big names, and no longer interested in supporting the bulk of SPs…unless they break out. My reasoning gets complex and boring. I’m just sorry you’re feeling it this month and I hope it turns around for you. Keep in mind too, I’m often wrong!
    5) I love that LG does it because the animals do it!! I have been caught standing by Maggie as she stares out the window or door too. And it’s also possible the animals were sense some unstable energy out there, putting them on alert for your safety. I call people who pay attention to their animals warnings smart!

Laundry doesn’t sound exciting, but hopefully Stormy’s soccer game will be (I’m assuming it’s Stormy’s soccer game)! Have a great weekend!

Viki, you have a good point. But I wanted the chairs against the fence where there’s only sunshine for a few hours. We’d get a few hours of shade too. Maggie is just silly in the best way! And I swear I’m trying to reform my plant killing ways!

    1) I bet you feel great! I love highlights — they had dimension and really bring the color to life.
    2) I’ll cross my fingers all goes well with your tax payments! It is stupid that you can’t pay it electronically.
    3) Sounds like you’re stuck in gloomy weather for a while. But hopefully it isn’t too cold.
    4) If the pills are working, that’s great! I always say do what works for you.
    5) I hope the washer and dryer are exactly what you want so you don’t have to spend any more time and energy searching. For me, I just want workhorse machines that do the job with minimal fuss because I’m lazy.

Hope you get to do something fun this weekend!
