Friday Five

TGIF! Time to share five random things about our week. Here’s mine:

  1. I got flowers this week! Our neighbor brought over some beautiful roses from their backyard. No reason, they are just thoughtful like that. We had some family stuff going on that worries and stresses us (not our kids, extended family), so these day brighteners are so appreciated!
  2. I’m sore from increasing my weights…by two pounds. Go ahead and laugh! But I have gained some muscle by being consistent and lifting as close to three times a week as I can. I’m happy with that, and feel like I’ve regained some of the strength I lost over two years of health stuff. Unfortunately soreness is the price for muscle overload. As long as I don’t injure myself, I’ll accept the muscle soreness.
  3. Oldest and Youngest had an amazing time in Vegas. They went to see WWE wrestling and had incredible seats. The boys watched WWE since they were kids, so it was cool even just hearing about it. On the flip side of that, Turbo told his dad all about coming out to our house, and his favorite part was going with Grandpa to drove his R.C. race car. I love so much that Turbo and Grandpa are bonding over some things the both really enjoy. It’s great for Wizard for various reasons and just makes me happy to see it.
  4. Yesterday, I went to Kohl’s, tried on armfuls of clothes and shoes, and came home with a pair of cheap pajamas. I looked for clothes to fill in around what I already have and I need to replace some very old semi-dress shoes.  I couldn’t even find socks I liked, LOL. But I’m getting started and at least I got the PJs.
  5. This weekend, we are getting our shade installed which is much faster than expected! It’s really going to help this summer. And we’re going to dinner at youngest’s house for a late birthday celebration for Wizard. Sunday I may go out to Turbo’s and hang out too, we’ll see on that. Now that tax season is over, Oldest and Youngest are much more available.

That’s my five, now I’d love to hear yours! I hope everyone has a great weekend!

Sounds like you had an awesome week. Yay for flowers and for getting back into shape – even if the latter did leave you sore. Yay for fun stuff for the boys in your life. Bummer about the shopping, but trying on clothes can be fun. I hope you get to do everything good this weekend! :hugs:

    1) My tree growing project is coming along. But one of the oaks I replanted turned out to actually be a Virginia creeper, so I’ll toss that later today. I now have three baby redbuds, 4 baby dogwoods, 4 baby cedars, and one oak. Fingers crossed they all thrive.
    2) The dogwoods are the only ‘from seed’ plants I got after all the work I did last fall, but I’m okay with that. Live and learn.
    3) I made a cake this week, but I didn’t have enough powdered sugar, so I tried putting regular sugar through the food processor to grind it into powder. It didn’t work and now my frosting is gritty. Oh, well.
    4) Earlier, Sawyer was being particularly annoying and wouldn’t stay off the dining room table. He was driving Hubs nuts. Then I went in there and saw a spider on the ceiling. Eureka moment. Sawyer is such a good spider spotter. (He’s also kind of annoying sometimes, so it was an easy mistake to make.)
    5) Favorite ‘cat toy’ of the week – rubber sink stoppers. I bought a pack of three to get the one size I needed, so the other two are fair game. They roll, they bounce, and they’re easy for the cats to carry.

Yay for thoughtful neighbors and roses! Hope the stress eases soon! Hey, no pain, no gain, right? Yay for awesome bro trips and family bonding time all around. Ugh on the shopping. Good luck finding what you want. Yay for the new shade and more family plans for the weekend! My five:

    1. We’ve had rain! Quite a bit, actually. Desperately needed. Did NOT need the twisty things or the hail that came with the rain. The yucky stuff missed up but others got it. Still, RAIN! And cooler temps.

    2. Wallyworld is always an adventure. At checkout, one of the kids who “supervises” the registers was training a newbie. As Jake and I hit our open spot, I put him Down-Stay, as I always do. I overheard the trainer say, “Now that’s a real service dog. He’s here a lot and never causes a problem. Pay attention so you can spot a fake one and be watching for problems.” Yeah, I was puffed.

    3. Speaking of Jake, we had to go see his vet. His cibacious(sp-I’m too lazy to look it up) cyst was back so time to get it drained. They also trimmed his nails. Yay! She also wanted him to try some arthritis meds as he seemed to be favoring one leg and foot. Free sample so sure! I hadn’t noticed a limp but paying attnetion now.

    4. I really need to consider switching winter bed linens for summer bed linens but every time I do, we get a cold front coming through which is then followed by a warm front. Decisions, decisions.

    5. We have determined that Dennis the Menace (so named because every time I open the front door the dang cat is all up in my business  ) does not belong to any of the neighbors nor has anyone responded to any of the various posts on the local pet lost and found sites. Pete is not a fan of him hanging around. Watching their stare downs either throught the window or out in the driveway is funny but yeah, I get where Pete is coming from. My across-the-street neighbor plans to talk to her daughter, who lost her oldest cat a bit ago and has mentioned her other cat is lonely. 🤞🏼 Dennis gets a new home.

Soccer games scheduled for tomorrow and Sunday but depends on the weather. We seem to be in a rainy pattern so going is TBD. No other plans in place. Have a great weekend, all!

    1. I think I love your neighbors. How sweet of them to share their flowers with you guys. Flowers always uplift us, even me who is allergic 🤣.
    2. Nothing wrong with light weights. Taking your time increase the load is smart. Reps really even things out. Don’t injure yourself.
    3. That’s so cool the guys going to WWE. My guys loved it too. I have a nephew who is in NEOPro Wrestling. It’s just under WWE. Love that Turbo and Wizard are bonding with the race cars 🥰.
    4. I have had trouble with finding clothes at Kohl’s too. At least you got new PJ’s.
    5. Yes, on the shade install. That will be great. Have fun with Turbo this weekend.

1a. I cleaned some windows and the very next day a bird flew by and pooped. The wind caught it and sent it through the screen and allover one of the windows ☹️.
2a. Hubs had left his jacket and Harrison’s house so Cass sent it back. When hubs opened the package he wasn’t careful and cut out a chunk of the material off the back. I spent a ton of time trying to find him anew one that didn’t cost and arm and a leg and I think I got it. It should be here next Thursday.
3a. Nothing is really planned for the weekend so I’m thinking of setting the hanging basket hooks. I’m going to hang a couple hummingbird feeders and I am going to buy myself a flowering basket to hang.
4a. I thought the grill was broken but C came over the other night and fixed it up. Last night I grilled burger and they were so good. Much better than doing them in a pan on the stove top.
5a. It got into the 80’s here yesterday. I was very hot last night so I took the blanket off the bed and right to the cleaners this morning. It will be cooler again tomorrow and a few other days so I will leave the down on until May. Then I’m pulling it. I don’t care if is cold or not. It’s time to spring up 💐.

    Have a great weekend!

B.E., thanks on all! Now for your five:

    1) That’s a lot of trees! I hope they all thrive!
    2) So much of life is “Live and learn.” But yay for the seeds you did get.
    3) Bet the cake is still good! Did you add some cornstarch to the sugar when you blended it? I think it’s a ratio of about 1 tbls corn starch to each cup of regular sugar. And then a powerful blender or food processer.
    4) Yay Sawyer for trying to alert you and hubs to a spider! He’s on the job! I can’t count the times I thought Maggie was trying to be annoying and she was telling us something. Humans are slow sometimes, LOL.
    5) Huh, I would have never guessed sink stoppers double as cat toys! Even better, you got a sink stopper and two cat toys out of one set — it’s a win for all!

    Enjoy the weekend!

Silver, the stress is aging relatives and it all goes with the territory. There are just moments here and there where frustration triggers the stress — all normal.

    1) Yay for rain, Boo on misbehaving twisty things and hail. Those are not good for anything!
    2) You deserved to puff up with pride! Fake service dogs piss me off. They are ruining it for people with legit and much needed service animals who help them have independence. I could rant forever. You and Jake both get Kudos!
    3) I’m sure Jake was a brave boy at the vets. Those cysts are annoying. Hopefully it’ll not refill for awhile. I’m very impressed with the vet for catching the limp! It’s easy to miss (dogs compensate and keep going) and this vet clearly cares enough to not miss it. Jake’s getting good care!! Free samples rock!
    4) Those are tough decisions I don’t have to make in my climate :-) I feel for you — changing all that is a pain.
    5) I’m crossing my fingers for Dennis too!

Soccer or rain — either way I hope you have a good weekend!

Viki, thanks on everything! Kohl’s is frustrating but I don’t need anything ASAP so I’m good. And yeah, my neighbors are sweet.

    1) Why does it always happen with clean windows? So frustrating!!
    2) Yay for finding the jacket at a price you like. I’m always cautioning Wizard when he’s ripping or cutting open packages for that reason!
    3) That sounds so lovely to have the hanging basket and bird feeders. Very peaceful! I want some bird feeders, but I’m waiting a bit to get other stuff done out there first. Plus the budget is crying wolf, LOL.
    4) Grilled burgers are always better! Glad C was able to fix your BBQ.
    5) You’re getting Spring Fever with the plants, bird feeders and changing linens!

    Have a great weekend!
