Friday Five
TGIF! I didn’t do much this week, well, I did do stuff but it was all boring chores and errands. But I’ll try to come up with five things to share about my week, then it’s your turn!
- Wizard’s still dealing with his cold, but definitely feels better than he did the first couple days. So far, no cold for me.
- I’m loving my plants in the back yard! I want to do more, but I’m kind of waiting to see when Youngest will be able to do the decking. He’s finishing his backyard by putting in sod this week. He and his wife have turned their back yard with a pool into a lovely outdoor space! They did all the work themselves, but worth the effort! The stuff in my backyard can wait, we are really enjoying it as is.
- In less than exciting news, I bought 15lb dumb bells, slowly and steadily increasing the weight in my weight lifting program. Oldest suggested I pyramid sets, which means I start with a lighter weight with more reps, and work up in weight with each progressive set, lowering my reps with each increase. Doing this has reduced my fatigue and joint pain, which I had no idea would work. I don’t know the exact mechanism of why it works, but I’m happy it does. I know this is boring for the rest of the universe
- Wizard and I went to a big box home goods store yesterday, where we brought a few things, including a throne (aka a plant stand) for Prince (the orchid). I named him Prince for the song Purple Rain
- This weekend, we are going to take Turbo a RC racecar Wizard built for him. There’s a slight chance that I won’t go with Wizard if Youngest would like my help putting in the sod in his backyard. We’ll see what he says, but my kids tend to be squeamish about me doing lift and carry work even if I can do it and don’t mind. Plus I’m torn, go see my grandson Turbo or get dirty and sweaty helping youngest? Hm… I’ve missed seeing CeeGee this week, but I really didn’t want to share Wizard’s cold. My poor daughter in law fought that cold for three weeks, she really doesn’t need a repeat of that.
That’s my boring five. I’m pretty sure you all can show me up sharing your five things! I hope everyone has a great weekend!

Yay for Wizard feeling better and for your backyard plant awesomeness! That sounds like an awesome idea for your weightlifting. LOL about Prince… you’re such an awesome geek. I hope you figure out which fun thing to do this weekend. I can see how you’d be torn. Fingers crossed the cold misses you entirely and you get to see CeeGee next weekend. :hugs:
1) I got my book out into the world. We’ll if anyone but my friends notice or care. LOL
2) The treelings have been repotted. I hope they’re happy and they thrive. I know the baby black walnut I dug up and replanted, that I thought I killed, is coming back to life. I named it Lazarus.
3) Last weekend, I bought 6 Roma tomato plants. If at least one of them bears fruit, I’ll be happy.
4) I need to get back to writing again. I have been saying this for a week now and I haven’t done it. Maybe today will be the day.
5) We’ve been watching this new show – Sherlock and Daughter – and so far so good. If you’re into that kind of thing, it’s Sherlock Holmes and a girl who claims to be his daughter (he doesn’t believe it), butting heads and solving crimes.

Poor Wiz. Hope he gets better soon! Yay for backyards, strengthening exercises, cool plant stands and Prince! He’s sooo pretty! And Yay for fun maybe weekend plans. My five from a busy week:
1. LG had an upper GI scope procedure Tuesday under anesthetic at VA so I had to go be his driver.
That’s a long story. Anyway, real doctor was there and there’s inflamation in stomach lining and esophogus which may be the cause of his pain and other symptoms the nurse practitioner kept trying to say was his liver so things stalled 8 months waiting on various tests.
2. After that procedure, he had a “date” with his “VA wife”, the DO who does his pain management and acupuncture. She’s very cool. He talks about her to me and about me to her. She loved on a Jake. That part of the day was cool. And yes, LG drove home, even though we were in my car (which was a “just in case” he actually couldn’t drive.)
3. We hit 95 on Wednesday so we’d already turned on the AC, which bums me out. Bills. Ugh. I finally switched the linens on the bed to summer sheets and bedspread.
4. Hit Wallyworld this morning and also managed to “fix” LG’s iPhone. It froze with the screen in maximum zoom and it wouldn’t turn off to reset. My google-fu came through and after a lot of patience, got it to reset so yay me!
5. See #3. It took 30 minutes to make up the bed because Pete decided this was a fun new game. He hid in one pillow case. He rolled up in the mattress cover as I was trying to put it back on the mattress after washing/drying. He pounced on every ripple, bubble, wrinkle in the sheets and then…THEN!!!! He discovered the fringe on the bedspread. 🤦🏼♀️ Don’t ask…
Looking forward to lots of softball today and this weekend. It’s regionals and both my Cowgirls and OU are playing. Have a great weekend all!

1. I’m so glad Wizard is feeling better.
2. The sod in BLB’s yard will be heavy work. He should get it done first. It’s good that you like your plants even w/o the deck. Makes waiting easy. My boys don’t like me doing heavy lifting either. They’re too funny.
3. Your son is right on the weights.
4. I love Prince Charming’s stand. He looks regal.
5. Wizard will have so much fun with Turbo and the racecar. I’m sure you’ll have a good time if you see Turbo or help BLB.
1a. Yesterday was C’s birthday and today hubs’. A came over and took hubs for a short bike ride and C came over in the morning and took hubs to a park . There were swans there and hubs loved them. Hubs appears to have had a good time with the two boys.
2a. I got my hair done 🥰. I asked her if my hair was gray or white and she said mostly white. She said when I want to go natural it will be very simple. She’d just give all my hair a highlight treatment and the roots would blend when they grew in. I think I’m still a couple years off but who knows.
3a. It’s HOT here. Yesterday and today mid to upper 80’s and humid. Tomorrow the bottom falls out and we’ll be back in the 50/60 range.
4a. The carrot cake I made is hubs favorite thing right now. He loves it.
5a. Sunday we’re going out for the birthday dinners.
I hope you have a great weekend!

B.E., well, you know, if I’m gonna be a geek, I might as well be awesome
Although my kids would just say I’m boring, and they wouldn’t be wrong.
1) Oh thank you for reminding me your book came out!! I just hopped over and bought it. Congrats again on getting it finished, polished and published! Besides buying it, I’m sending all the good vibes for tons of sales!
2) Lazarus is the perfect name, LOL! I’m betting the trees will all do great. That was a lot of work.
3) They’ll grown, unless you have some unexpected and unseasonal freeze or major storm. Fingers crossed!
4) It’s always hard to sit down that first time back and write. Oh and every time after that! But you’ll do it, you always do. That said, taking a break is important.
5) I love that you find shows, and glad you find ones you enjoy. We are terrible at even making the effort to find shows. I will look for movies for us to watch together so I guess that’s something.
Enjoy the weekend!!

Silver, Price knows he’s pretty, just like a Peacock. I’m hoping he’s not sensitive because we tease him about it. Or maybe we’re the weird ones…
1) Heck yeah, that inflammation is likely causing the pain and other symptons. Poor LG, I’m sorry he was getting the runaround by other medical-supposedly-professionals. Hopefully you guys and the doc can discover the reason for the inflammation and resolve it, or at least manage it.
2) Yay for a good pain management doctor who is also nice and clearly easy to talk too! Of course she loved Jake. And glad LG was recovered enough to drive home.
3) Man I’m sorry for the hot weather making you have to think about AC bills. They suck. I so get it!
4) Google can be such a help with things like frozen technology! I’m glad you were able to resolve the issue. But it definitely takes patience to do it.
5) Sure, it took you a long time to put on the new linens due to Pete’s antics. But how much did you laugh in those 30 minutes? Bet it was worth it! Pete’s a keeper!
Enjoy the softball and have a great weekend!

Viki, it’s probably normal for the boys to be like that with their moms. But I also wonder what they think we do all day when things need to be lifted and carried??? Thanks for reassuring on the weights. I researched it after I talked to Oldest, so I get the general idea. Hypertrophy and strength training are interesting. But I am still surprised that less can be more if done right
But it’s really helped me do better controlled and targeted lifts with less soreness. And I told my son that A) I listened and B) he was right.
1) It’s awesome that the boys spend time with their dad doing something he enjoys on his birthday. Better than gifts in my opinion!
2) If you ever want to transition, it’s nice to know you can do it pretty easily. You should do what makes you happy. Color it as long as you like. I see so many different options for women these days and that’s cool.
3) Ugh on the humidity! And I know you don’t like the heat. Hope you get some milder days soon.
4) Sounds like you made the perfect choice for Hubs and C’s birthday cake!
5) I really hope all of you have a great time celebrating Hubs and C’s birthdays!
Have a great weekend!
