Friday Five
TGIF! Now it’s time to share five random things about our week. Here’s mine:
- Monday was amazing! I got my teeth cleaned, that was not amazing, just normal
But then I went out to see CIGI and she made my day! As soon as I go there and picked her up, I must have shaken my head (like we do to indicate no), and this set her off. She laughed and shook her head no. Then we played this game for five or ten minutes, totally cracking her up. Her mom and I were cracking up too. The best we can guess, she liked the way my hair swished around my face when I did it. From then on it was nonstop play time until she ate and fell asleep. That was the day Jett had his minor procedure and last I heard, he’s doing great.
- Tuesday was a total Brain Drain day. It involves other people so I’ll just leave it at that. Let’s just say that I’m glad that day is over.
- I have to take another two pairs of shorts back. It’s possible that all my exercise stuff has changed my body enough to make find a good fit difficult. But more likely, this once trusted brand name, resized their sizes bigger. I hate when they do that. It’s a stupid trick to make consumers think they stiff fit into whatever size. But how can we trust their sizes when we have to order most things online these days? I mean I really want to believe I’ve changed the shape of my body, but I’m pretty sure that’s not really it
- Yesterday, Wizard and I followed followed directions to remover our freezer doors to clean out a drain that’s causing ice buildup. It went great until the last screw we couldn’t get out. We could see the drain but couldn’t read it to fix the issue. Wizard was getting so frustrated, and I called a halt before we stripped that last screw. We put everything back together, and now we’ll have to call out a repair person. Annoying and a waste of money since we should have been able to do this ourselves. It’s probably a flaw in the freezer/ice maker system we’ll have to deal with forever too. On the other hand, the fridge, freezer and ice maker work so we no time pressure there — at least that’s a bright spot. I just have to keep cleaning off frost/icy buildup. I miss old appliances that, you know, worked.
- Today I’m supposed to get a another weave in my hair to blend the gray. I have the appointment but I haven’t received the normal reminder and I’m nervous. Last time that happened, the appointment had vanished from the system. This particular appointment is important and time sensitive. I’ll call to verify later and I will practice reminding myself — it’s just hair! The sun will still rise tomorrow even if I don’t get the weave color done today.
That’s my five, now I’d love to hear yours! I hope everyone has a great weekend!

Yay for fun with CiGi! Sorry Tuesday went sideways for you :hugs:. I’m guessing that all your hard work is paying off, so you need a different size now. Ack about your fridge. Why can’t things work like they used to? Grr. I hope your appointment isn’t messed up and all goes well with your hair. Have a great weekend!
1) I got an email last night right before I went to bed on something I can’t deal with until today, but of course, I spent all night thinking about it, so I’m running on empty already. Bring on the coffee!
2) My new motto is: Life would be a whole lot easier if it wasn’t so damn hard.
3) I saw a deer with twins a couple days ago. Yay. If wasn’t Lumpy or Sissy, but still, the more fawns there are the happier I am.
4) My evil genius cats have figured out a new way to get under the bed. I blocked under there off because Sawyer likes to scratch the underside of the bed in the middle of the night. Now that they know how to move the boxes, I’ll have to figure out a new way to thwart them.
5) Earlier this week, I stumbled across a new-to-me snake. It was a speckled kingsnake getting ready to cross the road. Very pretty and super harmless. It slithered away with some encouragement, off to live another day and eat pesky rodents.

CiGi Time™ and giggles FTW! Yay for Jett being OK, 🤞🏼 his tests come back good. Sorry on the Tuesday stuff. Clothing stuff is a mystery and I won’t buy if I can’t try on first. Wait. Is this the freezer on the new fridge? Argh! Is it under warranty? And yeah, they DON’T make stuff like they used to! 😠 Good luck with the hair stuff! Okay, my five:
1 My week started on Saturday. LG’s phone gets stuck in zoom mode. Sometimes, I can fix it. When in zoom mode, you can’t do anything–like answer a phone call or text. Welp, I think I hit the SOS button somehow. The phone rang about a minute after that screen disappeared but still stuck in zoom, couldn’t answer it. About 10 minutes later, the doorbell rant. Yeah. It was the cops doing a welfare check. We laughed about being old, they laughed, we thanks them and yeah. 😳 *red face*
2. Long story short, a writer I “met” on X offered to set the song lyrics I wrote for BILLIONAIRE COUNTRY to musice with a singer using AI. He did. The results are AWESOME! The tunes were in my Tuesday blog. Link, in case you missed it: https://silverjames.com/2025/06/24/tuesday-tidbits-billionaire-country-music/
3. In other news, the toilet in our full bath was haunted. It would flush and everything was fine. The next flush caused water to back up into the tub. 🤦🏼♀️ We had two different plumbing crews (same company, different equipment) yesterday. They finally fixed it and bless their hearts, they only charged us for 2 1-hour calls, instead of the actual HOURS they spent here. Good people!
4. I have hopes that the word flood will now open on the WIP. While washing dishes last night, a thought occurred to me. Once done, I rushed back to the computer to make note of the idea before I forgot it. The note turned into 1K words and almost a full scene and some of the emotional “flavor” of the book FINALLY appeared! This has been a stumbling block. As soon as I’m off the net this morning–shortly–I’m hoping for a massive word count.
5. Pete and Jake story of the week: Jake did NOT like the noise the plumbers snake made, nor the noise of one of them walking around on the roof. He got up under my desk. This was a first. Pete was on his cat tower next to the desk. He jumped down to the level that’s just below my desktop. A few minutes later, I realized he’d disappeared. I just happened to look under my desk and discovered Pete sitting next to Jake’s head, not bothering him, just sitting there in solidarity. This is unusual because unlike Loki, who plays with Jake, Pete and Jake normally ignore each other. They aren’t hostile, just indifferent. It was sweet to see.
It’s hot, even though we had rain last night that briefly cooled things off. No plans other than to hopefully write many, many words and get back on track with the dang book. In a side note, I saw this recipe this morning in my email and though you might like it! https://foodnservice.com/gluten-free-chocolate-lava-cake/?utm_source=hometalk Have a great weekend, all!

1. Monday sure sounds like it was fun with CiGi ☺️. Teeth cleaning is one of my favorite activities. Love clean teeth.
2. Sorry about Tuesday.
3. It is so frustrating how sizes have changes so much over the years. Trying to make big people feel better themselves this way is stupid. I have a terrible time finding things to fit. I hope you are able to figure it out for you 🥰.
4. I hate the freezer drain issue. I have run into it with three different refrid ice makers. Mine would always have an ice crystal in the drain hole and then water would back up. Taking the back panel off the freezer is a pain and then flushing the hole is also a pain.
5. I’m keeping my fingers crossed that all is fine with your hair appointment tomorrow.
1a. Cooked some ground meat to go with sauce for dinner tonight. I couldn’t get over how the price had jumped over a dollar.
2a. It’s still super hot a muggy.
3a. I fell down the stair while vacuuming this morning. Other than lumps swelling and bruises, I’m ok.
4a. It looks like my brother’s dog is finally eating and therefore getting his medications.
5a. I ordered a shirt for hubs from Kohls and I hope it comes in soon. It’s a white golf shirt. The one he had been wearing was all stained with sunscreen. He just kept finding it and wearing it out in public. I hope the new one takes it’s place.
Have a wonderful day.

B.E., appliances really don’t work like they used to and repairs are expensive. But I did get my hair done, so that’s good!
1) I’m sorry thoughts like that kept you awake. I’m the same way. Hope you were able to resolve the issue today sleep well tonight.
2) That motto works for me. But sorry life is hard.
3) Yay for finding joy around you, like the twin fawns!
4) LOL on the cats moving the boxes!! Sounds like you’re goin got have to get really creative to outsmart them!
5) i love that you can identify snakes. It makes you safer in your environment. And you make new friends on your walks
I hope you have a stress free, fun weekend!

Silver, yep the new fridge, and the warranty was for a year. I don’t buy extended warranties, and it’s sad to me that we even need them. We should have been able to fix this ourselves but for that last screw. But we’ll get it taken care of, hopefully resolve the screw issue then we can do it ourselves if needed in the future.
1) OH BOY!!! That would make my face red too — half from embarrassment and half from frustration. But Kudos to your your police for following up to make sure you were safe. And hopefully you found a way to get the phone off the zoom call. What a pain devices can be.
2) That’s like the coolest thing I’ve heard in a long time!! I did a quick listen, and what a treat to “hear” your lyrics come to life. You must be thrilled!!! Do you have the rights to use it for various things? Even if not, it’s still AWESOME!!
3) What amazing plumbers you have. My experience has been limited but very expensive. I’m so glad you found a good crew that fixed and it and didn’t overcharge!!! And it’s always good to be reminded of the good people out there. There are many…even if they get lost in all the noise.
4) That’s so exciting when it happens! The floodgates are definitely opened if you mean tot write a note and ended up with 1K words! Fingers crossed you got a ton of words today!
5) Pete’s a good guy. It sure sounds like he was comforting Jake or at least offer moral support. That’s a great story! Isn’t it amazing how attuned animals are like that?
It sounds like a good weekend for writing! Thanks for the recipe, I’ll go look at it when I finish answering here.

Viki, I called and my appointment was fine. I spent over 3 hours there today — crazy! But I like it. And I agree on the fridge ice makers – it’s a known issue. But of course, my old, old one never did this. Still…it’s an annoyance we can deal with when we have time. And Cigi was just too cute.
1) Right? Meat prices are definitely giving me indigestion.
2) That muggy weather is really hanging on for you. Hope it leaves soon.
3) Oh Viki!!! Are you sure you’re ok? Falling down the stairs is scary. Please take it easy until you heal up.
4) That’s good news on your bother’s dog. Eating is a really positive sign.
5) I hope the shirt comes soon and hubs doesn’t notice or object to the change. You are so good the way you take care of him.
Seriously, I hope you’re really okay and not to sore from the stairs incident. And that you have a good weekend.

Quick update: Yes, we got the phone to play nice before the cops got there. Yes, Luke gave me all the rights to the songs. I’m about 16K words into the book so things are looking up. I wrote almost 2K today. S’all good. FINALLY
