Friday Five

TGIF! It’s August! The summer is flying by. And now it’s time to share 5 random things about our week. Here’s mine:

  1. Monday was frustrating as an accident shut down a major freeway, preventing us from getting to an appointment at my mother in law’s house. Obviously it was regarding my mother in law, and it mattered. One of Wizard’s brothers handled it and did great. But it was still frustrating. That said, I guess the people who had the serious car accident with a big rig that shut down the freeway and clogged up all the other access routes had a worse day than us.
  2. We did finally get the rock around our deck! So I can start looking at what I want to put there, which is the fun part.
  3. I gave Maggie a small bully stick outside that she loved. She chewed on it every chance she got, but I wouldn’t let her bring it in the house. She’d come to the door holding it in her mouth like a cigar. I’d tell her she can’t bring it in the house, then she’s turn her her and spit it out. It looked so ridiculous.Β  When I get up at 5:30 am she had to go out there and check her stick, now that was cute. The best news is we are finding bones and chews that don’t appear to upset her digestion.
  4. This week, Maggie and I hit the 2 and a 1/2 mile milestone a couple times in our morning walks. Maggie seems to be happy with the walks and not suffering any detectable soreness later in the day or evening. She’s an older girl but appears healthy. I’m grateful for that.
  5. This weekend is a bit busy. It’s my birthday, so Wizard and I are planning to go to a nice dinner Friday night at our favorite steakhouse. Saturday evening we’re going to a fun dinner with Youngest and his wife. Sunday Wizard and I are going to see Turbo and his mom. His dad will be around but is also catching up on some work since he was gone last weekend. I’m looking forward to seeing him, then hopefully CiGi next week.

That’s my five, now I’d love to hear yours! I hope everyone has a safe and fun weekend!

    HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!! πŸ₯³πŸŽˆπŸŽ‚πŸ₯³
Ugh on the accident. Out there, there’s no easy way to find an alternative route. Glad Wiz’s brother managed. Yay for rocks. Have fun designing and executing. Oh, Maggie! She’s too cute and yay for finding good treats. Walking is good for us old folks. Glad you two are keeping at it. Jake and I need to do more of it. Yay for dinners and family time to celebrate all the special that is you! πŸ₯° Okay, my 5.

    1. We finally hit an actual high temp of 100 on Wednesday. It’s the first time this summer. I know I’ve been complaining about the heat but around here, it really does have more to do with the humidity. While the temp might only be 93, with high humidity, “feels like” temp is 105. Still, not gonna complain, though we still have to get through August.

    2. Storm dragons came to play last night. They didn’t stay long but left some rain and a few rumbles. It’s humid today but it’s only 70 so…YAYAY!

    3. Writing has been a chore. Since today’s the 1st of August, I’m telling myself that I’m going to do a personal novel writing month–Au-Go-Wri-Mo. That means I WILL write at least some words every day. That’s my story and I’m sticking to it.

    4. I finished a book yesterday that made me cry. It was an okay book until the last chapter and then it made me cry. I was really missing my dad after I finished. That’s all I’m gonna say.

    5. Ending on a fun note. Pete and Loki decided to play Capture the Bed Flag last night. This game consists of Pete crouching on the edge of the bed watching Loki creep into the bedroom. Then Pete launches, Loki dashes, and they chase each other until Pete comes back and pounces o the bed. They were in the middle of this when Jake started barking. Moments later, Pete returned looking all sorts of discombobulated. Then I discovered his tail and one leg was wet. WTH? I get up and go look. The rug where Jake’s water bowl sits was askew and the bowl half empty. Apparently, Loki drifted around that corner, skewed the rug, Pete ran through the water, and Jake–startled–barked at the shennanigans. πŸ€¦πŸΌβ€β™€οΈ Ah, life with furry children.

Tomorrow is First Saturday. That means siren test, lunch with The Kids, and then who knows? Hopefully, words for me. I mean, it’ll only be the 2nd day of my AuGoWriMo challenge. Have a great weekend, everyone!

    HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

    5. I hope you and Wizard have a fantastic dinner tonight. Can’t wait to hear what you guys have dessert. I’m sure you are going to have a fun packed weekend celebrating with the family – ENJOY!

    1. I am so sorry about the accident. Good thing you had the back up of Wizard’s brother to help out. Yup, those in the accident had a VERY bad day. I hope they were all okay.

    2. πŸ’•On getting to rocks down. It’s all coming together.

    3. Maggie is such a good girl. It’s easy to picture her with the chew stick in her mouth like a cigar, especially if you remember Triumph the insult dog.

    4. Excellent on the 2 1/2 mile walks. It’s so nice that Maggie is still enjoying them and not showing any significant signs of pain. Watching our fur babies getting older stinks.

1a. It finally cooled down a bit. But the humidity lifted and that’s great! We did got another couple inches of rain. Thank God for sump pumps.

2a. Tomorrow C and I going to have pedicures. It’s been a year since we did it, so it’s time πŸ˜‰.

3a. I think I’m going to clean some of the downstairs windows tomorrow morning before leaving to meet up with C. With the lower humidity, I figure I better get cracking.

4a. Well the checks never showed up and the bank manager ordered another set. Those showed up today, 2 days after shipping. He stopped payment on the first checks in case someone gets and tries to use them.

5a. I was at the drugstore the other day and they had out all the Halloween stuff already. It really bugged me but not enough to prevent me from buying Harrison’s Halloween card πŸ˜†. They only had three and I figured it won’t be there in 3 months when I really need it. So, I bought it.

Really enjoy you birthday and have an all around great weekend!

Silver, thanks!! It’s been a really strange week here and that freeway shutdown pretty much was the start of it. But like all weeks, they pass and on we go to the next one.

    1) You can complain about humidity all you want! It’s miserable. We have normal hot weather here, and I’ll concede you are getting the worse end of the deal with the humidity. Hope you guys get a break from it soon.
    2) 70 is definitely better!
    3) Do it!!! Just write words. I know you can. It’s so hard to not edit, revise and stress over every thing, but resist the temptation and keep writing! (This from someone who was BAD at resisting, but you’re better than me at resisting and you can do it!)
    4) Wow that book really snuck up on your with an emotional punch! Hope you found it worth reading and the tears it cost you.
    5) Life is never boring with your critters!!! I wonder who was more surprised, Jake or Pete when he ran through the water???? LOLOL!

I hope you guys have a successful siren test and a lot of fun at lunch! Followed by words that get easier with every keystroke.

Viki, thank you! We are looking forward to dinner tonight and tomorrow night. And yeah, it’s hard to watch our animals get older, but I’m aging too :-)

    1) It sure seems like you’ve gotten a lot of rain this year. Yay for the sump pump working, and for the humidity breaking.
    2) That sounds like fun for you and C! Enjoy!
    3) I get why you’re cleaning windows with the better conditions, but try not to overdo.
    4) I’m glad the bank finally got on that with the missing checks, and that they cancelled them. Hopefully that’s the last you’ll have to worry about it now that you have the new checks.
    5) LOL!! I’d have bought the card too if I was organized enough to think of it like you did. But yeah, I’m annoyed too with the pushing for earlier and earlier seasonal buying, them when we do need it during the season we can’t get it (at a price we’re willing to pay, anyway.) It’s not going to change — the market rewards the behavior, and I do it too.

Thanks and I hope you have a great time with C. Have an enjoyable weekend!
