Friday Five
TGIF! Time to share five random things about our week. Here’s mine:
- I wasn’t impressed with the peach picante pork chops. I need to find a better recipe with a peach glaze, I think.
- I’ve cut my walking this week due to my legs aching. It’s really annoying to work so hard to reach goals, then have factors beyond my control get in my way. Could be anything causing it, but the usual suspect is my RA flaring up. And in good news, I can lift weights fine still. It’s my legs that are whining. I think reducing the walking for a few days will help that. Also my idea of resting my legs is to reduce my walk to half a mile or so, and THEN spend hours vacuuming and washing floors
- I finally was able to connect on the phone with a friend — we’ve been trying to connect for two weeks, LOL! That called led to a plan for lunch in two more weeks time. It’s pretty funny that we’re both retired and can’t get our schedules to align! Family, grandkids, some health stuff is keeping us busy. But the great thing about friends is we understand and work around these days.
- Yesterday we went to see Cigi. I love that she wants me to hold her right after I get there. She played for hours with both me and Wizard. She’s cruising around furniture and speed crawling all over. But while doing all that, she’ll just randomly come up and hug one of us — baby/toddler hugs are the best! Here’s a pic wherein Cigi gives us her stamp of approval on our new car.
- This weekend is up in the air. I believe two of Wizard’s sisters have his Mom covered, but we will make ourselves available if we’re needed. I have a list of things I’d like to do like check out clearance on outdoor furniture for my deck, and some cleaning that I haven’t gotten to yet, but we’ll see what the weekend brings. I’ll always skip cleaning for better offers!
That’s my five, now I’d love to hear yours! I hope everyone has a great weekend!

Peaches and pork do go together. I hope you find something. Bummer on the achy legs cutting into walking goals. Yay for reconnecting with old friends. Cigi hugs are the best! And so are new cars. Have a great weekend, whatever you do. My five:
1. After not really seeing any hummingbirds all summer, at least one has become a steady customer at the feeder. It’s fun to catch that flicker of movement out of the corner of my eye and look up and out to see one feeding.
2. Thursday was vet day. Jake went in for his yearly. Toby went in later for his “get to know you, look at former records” appointment. Both are healthy. Both have their shots for the year. Jake is still the favorite but Toby might be a close second if he ever gets trained.
3. This is Toby week. His middle name in now Muncher. He’s munched LG’s wallet, a leather portfolio cover, pulled over a small bookcase in my office, he keeps stealing my shoes, and a bunch of stuffed animals/toys from the guest room. LG spent yesterday cleaning that room and putting everything up. If he wasn’t so sweet, he’d be in deep kimchi.
4. Speaking of Toby, he wants to go. He rode very nicely in the back seat yesterday to and from the vet’s. Today, while we were unloading groceries from the back of the Highlander, Toby hopped right into the cargo area and sniffed around. Once the last bag was out, he climbed OVER the back seat to get there. He did NOT want to get out.
5. Pete tolerates the new pup. He no longer freaks and comes and goes from the garage like normal. He sleeps with me at night and just sighs when Toby does his “a leaf fell in the backyard I must go save us from it” bark at 3 a.m. At least he’s only doing that twice a night instead of the 4-6 times the first week. Loki is slowly making appearances and is learning not to run. This morning, he hissed and Halloween Catted Toby. I keep telling Loki to do more of that and eventually they will be friends and he’ll have someone to play with. Loki wants to play at times. Pete and Jake do not.
Not a boring week, probably more excitement than I was anticipating. Stormy and Only started school this week. After the 1st day of 6th grade, he was moved up to 7th grade math. Only’s classes went good. Baseball Boy starts this coming week. Stormy has 3 soccer games this week. Between the heat. LG’s health, and Toby, not sure we’ll go. We’ll see. Have a good one, all!

1. Sorry about the pork. Maybe adding a couple tablespoons of a peach jam would have helped?
2. Aching legs SUCK! You are too funny in how you “cut down” on your walking. You need to actually rest.
3. Connecting with old friends is so much fun. It’s good you were finally able to work around “life” and have a good chat.
4. Hey officer, does that child have a license😆? She does appear to give the new car a thumbs up. Baby hugs are the best. So, with the furniture walks, does it look like she will be walking soon? Look out then. CiGi has the look of an investigator.
5. It’s nice that Wizard has several siblings and you all help out with his mom. Knowing there is someone to count on when needed relieves some of the stress.
1a. Yesterday was my birthday and I took myself for a massage. I really needed it. I’m finally breaking down and ordering via Amazon Polar lotion. It’s 6% menthol and feels wonderful on all the aches.
2a. I got home yesterday and Walmart optical called to say I didn’t pay for my glasses and would have to pay COD when I came in to pick them up. I grabbed my receipt and there are clearly 3 pairs of glasses on it. The guy gave me grief and said bring it with me when I come. So later I’m ticked off and in pain (later on that) and really look at my receipt. The guy had charged me twice for one of the pairs of glasses instead of the sunglasses. I will go in tomorrow and work it all out. It looks like they will have to refund me the cost of the double charge and charge me for the glasses they were supposed to charge me for. I will be a delta of about $50.
3a. After I got home yesterday while I was making lunch, I smacked my left foot into the sandal I had just changed out of. Looks like I broke my toe. Man does it hurt. The foot is swollen and purple on the last three toes and top of the foot. No working out for me☹️.
4a. Courtney went out west by herself on a hiking trip. She sent a video of this bear slowly walking right by the car she was driving. It was about 25 feet away. Beautiful but can be scary.
5a. It’s getting into the 90’s again. Did I say how much I like the fall and cool temperatures? Well, I do. Can’t wait for the heat and humidity to take a hike.
Have a good weekend!

Silver, I’m pretty sure grandkid hugs in general are the best!
1) At least you enticed one hummingbird. Maybe he’ll alert his friends!
And pretty confident too.
2) Yay for two healthy pups! LOL on training Toby. With all your experience training, I have faith he’ll mature into a well behaved (mostly) dog. Plus Jake’s a great example. But huge sympathies — a new dog is a lot of work.
3) Toby has had a busy week! Seriously, you and LG are amazing for taking him on!
4) That’s so cute that he wanted to go for a ride. Now that I can relate too — Maggie loves the car too. He sounds like a fun loving, ready to party boy
5) Progress is being made in your household! Yay for Pete tolerating Toby. And yay for Toby doing less nighttime barking — he’s going in the right direction. I do think the more familiar and secure he gets in his new home, the less little noises will trigger him at night. But it always takes longer than we think it should. I’m glad to hear Loki’s appearing more, and hissing at Toby to create some boundaries. See? It’s all progress, but you and LG are probably pretty tired these days
You sure do have a lot going on! And congrats to Stormy on moving up in math — impressive! Hope the year is a good one for all. And I really hope LG can get some answers and feel better soon. Have a good weekend!

Viki, it had peach preserves in it, so I don’t know. But I’ll look around for some ideas. Seriously, little kids spontaneous hugs are the sweetest, purest kind of love.
1) Happy Birthday! I’m glad you treated yourself on your birthday, and I hope the massage helped. If you found something that works in a lotion, buy more!
2) What an annoying mix up at Walmart. That part isn’t so bad, but the confusion of calling you and saying you didn’t pay is the really annoying part. Sorry you have to sort out their mistake on how they charged you.
3) OUCH!! I’m so sorry that happened! I’ve broken my toe twice and it’s painful and limiting. You’ll need to stay off it and ice it to get that swelling down, then go slow. If you know how to buddy tape it, that helps me, especially at night.
4) Very Scary! Glad she was in the car, but I don’t think I’d want to be that close. Still, what a great video to have, and cool to see once the bear is gone and she’s safe.
5) Maybe fall will come early to your state! We’re definitely in the dog days of summer now.
Happy Birthday again and take care of your toe!
