Friday Five

TGIF!! I’m back online and it’s time to share five random things about our week. Here’s mine:

  1. The floor installation went smoothly. We love them (so far but time will tell). There’s one spot in our bathroom (the around the toilet) that crackles, which can happen. Since it’s in that spot, I’m not going to stress over it. We’ll just watch it to make sure it’s not a real problem. Overall, we’re really happy. Here’s a couple pics: The first one is the office — you’ll notice we still have more unpacking to do there, and the other one, I’m standing in the dining room (we hadn’t moved the table back yet)  looking toward the kitchen.
  2. The cleaning is real, LOL. We still need to unpack books and a few more things. But we have the majority of things back in place. Now we’re cleaning everything — between taking up the old floors, and cutting the planks for the new floors, debris is everywhere! But that’s normal and it’s worth it.
  3. Speaking of Maggie — she’s adjusting to the new floors pretty well. We sure hear her toenails clicking now! She can’t sneak up on us anymore, LOL. The funny think is she won’t down on the floors, but she’ll down on the cement — weird. But overall, she’s been fine, and never seemed stressed. Plus she had fun hanging out in the garage and backyard with us while the crew worked!
  4. Next week I see the new ENT doctor. I’m hopeful he has, or will attempt to find, answers to what’s going on with my throat. I finally had Wizard look at it, and we took some pictures. Have you ever tried to get pics of the back of your throat? It’s…not pretty :-)  It did, however, startle me a bit to see it that way.  But of course, this could be as simple like an allergy to something I’m consuming. Anything’s possible. Fingers crossed the ENT next week will be helpful.
  5. Wizard surprised me and made reservations for dinner for us on Valentines Day. I hadn’t even given it a thought. I love that he totally surprised me.

This weekend, we plan to go see Turbo on Saturday if the rain doesn’t cause problems on the freeways. Anyway, that’s my five, now I’d love to hear yours! Hope everyone has a safe and happy weekend.

Yay for new floors (I LOVE them!). Maggie will get used to them. Fingers crossed 🤞🏼 for positive news from new ENT next week! Wiz is such a keeper! And yay for Turbo Time™. I was wondering about how much rain y’all have gotten. My five:

    1. I have good days and bad days. Luckily, the good days are getting more frequent. I still haven’t managed to stay out of bed for the bulk of the day but I’ve also learned that if I push things, I immedicately have a bad day. Patience.

    2. I managed a trip to Wallyworld, with LG’s help. Fun times.

    3. I am actually cooking dinner most nights. That’s an improvement. Tonight is “Cajun boil”–shrimp, sausage, corn on the cob, new potatoes, all in a butter and Cajun spice “dip” and baked in the oven. Shrimp and smoked sausage precooked, potatoes and corn cook in the microwave, then all is dunked in butter mix and spread onto a foil-lined cookie sheet and “baked” for about 15 minutes to heat shrimp and sausage. Easy peasy and yummy.

    4. I have permission to drive (and I did a quick run to Ace Hardware for birdseed. Lifting is restricted to 10 lbs. so one of the guys at the store put the bags in the cart and then off-loaded into the back of the Highlander, followed by LG unloading in the garage. Jake got to go and see his friends there.

    5. I have no Pete story today. However, Jake is “learning” to play with Loki. We caught him doing a pounce and play bow with Loki, who “retaliated” by pouncing back. Then they chased each other around the dining room table. Loki cheated by jumping up onto the chair seats (under the tablecloth), leaping from chair to chair. Jake’s too big to get under there with the chairs in place. It was pretty funny.

Tomorrow is First Saturday. Normally, we’d do siren test then lunch with the kids. I was planning on being normal but that was before Stormy caught Flu-A. He’s here today, poor little dude. Baseball Boy may or may not have practice around lunch time (depends on weather). The way things look, Only and LG will do the siren test and then go home, no family lunch. That’s okay. We’ll do it another time. Sick kids get priority. Have a great weekend, all!

    1. I love the floors.
    2. The dust is such a pain. You will still be cleaning it up a long time from now. It just seems to reappear at random.
    3. Poor Maggie can’t sneak up on you anymore. But I have to say, I love the sound on their nails clicking on the floor.
    4. I’m praying that the new ENT gets to the root of all the problems and finally comes up with a solution.
    5. Wizard is a sweetheart 💗.

1a. C took hubs to TN today. I didn’t think it would happen because hubs has been REALLY bad lately. He was awful last night too. I finally got him back to bed and when I got him up for the trip he had no idea that anything had happened.
2a. My crown has felt funny and I had a cleaning today. I mentioned it and sure enough it was coming off. It’s back on ☺️.
3a. I’m going to try and get tax stuff together tomorrow and try and figure out what we don’t have. C is going to ask his boss for a tax preparer rec for me.
4a. I have been thinking of making reservations for Valentine’s dinner and having C & C come along. If I have to change them that’s okay.
5a. It’s supposed to be sunny and warmer so I think my car is getting a bath tomorrow ❤️.

I hope you have a great weekend.

Silver, so great to see you!! I’ve been thinking a lot about you. And thanks on the floors. I love them too. This last rainstorm was normal (I’m sure it was more north of us). It’s this next one coming in Saturday night that could be more powerful. We should be home before it hits, so at least we won’t be on the roads. Now for your five:

    1) Patience is so hard when you’re recovering. But that was a big surgery! It takes time. And if you’re getting impatient, that’s actually a good sign that you’re feeling better and better. That said, I feel for you, the pain and fatigue are a lot to deal with. It sounds like you’re listening to your body and resting as much as you need to.
    2) That’s a win to go to Wallyworld and back with help! It may not have been the most exciting place to go, but it probably felt good to get out of the house.
    3) Glad your appetite is returning enough to want to cook dinner! And great job on taking as many shortcuts on prep to conserve energy and be able to cook at all!
    4) Wow you did Ace Hardware by yourself! It’s nice to get a little bit of freedom back! And yay for the guy for helping you! The birds appreciate it too :-)
    5) Jake and Loki playing would make me laugh too! Jake is so big and Loki is a cat, and therefor very agile. Jake really doesn’t stand a chance, but I bet they were both having fun!

Oh poor Stormy! I’m so sorry he has that crud. It’s gone through my family and it really sucked for them. And I 100% agree, sick kids take priority. You guys are great parents and grandparents! Hope you have as good weekend.

Viki, thank you! I love the floors too, although I’m sure their will be a learning curve on taking care of them. So true on the cleaning! We were just sweeping and dusting more of it up today. It’ll be endless for a while (I don’t think that sentence actually makes sense, LOL). Thank you for the prayers on my throat. I just want to know what it is to ease my mind. Now for you:

    1) It doesn’t sound like you’re getting any sleep, I’m so sorry. But I’m glad C could take him today. Hopefully, it gives you a little break.
    2) Good timing that you felt the crown before your dentist appointment. Glad it’s all fixed and you don’t have to go back. I imagine it’s not easy for you to get to appointments these days.
    3) Crossing my fingers you can gather the tax stuff with little effort and that you get a good rec on a tax preparer.
    4) Make the reservations! You deserve it! And you’re right, you can change them if needed.
    5) I bet your car is excited to get clean! They always seem happier when they are clean.

I hope you have a great weekend!
