Friday Five
TGIF! Let’s dive right into sharing five random things about our week. Here’s mine:
- Well start with Monday. My friend’s husband passed away. I didn’t even know he was sick, which makes me even sadder. Even worse, her daughter passed away just a few months ago. My heart just breaks for her. On top of that, I’m worried about Silver, but trying not to bug her for an update. I just want her to get well, and I’ll wait as long as it takes to find out how she’s doing. The rest of the week was much better.
- I accidently had a package delivered to our old house. Sigh…anyway, I went over to pick it up and discovered the new owners have a 2 week old baby! I am thrilled for them. They had mentioned to us they could envision themselves having and raising a family in that house, and now they are living their dream. I seriously smiled the rest of the day. Also the baby was so cute!
- I ran to Target for one thing, and if you know anything about Target Math, you probably know that I went into buy a tub of Greek yogurt for roughly $5.00 and came out spending more than $80.00, LOLOL. But what I remember was the little girl sitting in the front part of the shopping cart swearing. And the mother’s seemingly slow and uninspired reaction. I’m NOT blaming the mom — I didn’t have long enough exposure to her and her child to really know the situation. Heck the “mom” could actually have been the big sister and a babysitter for all I know. Little kids swear, but what I was thinking about is how much more small children are exposed to the things we once tried to shield them from until they were a bit older and could begin to understand things like how and when it’s acceptable to use certain words, general politeness and the consequences of breaking rules (and embarrassing mom in the store :-). Cell phones and social media have changed the parenting game in a way that just makes me tired. I don’t have answers.
- Today, I’m meeting Biker Witch for coffee. I’m really looking forward to that.
- This weekend, I have a vague idea of seeing Turbo, but I haven’t talked to my son or daughter-in-law yet to see if they’ll be home. They are super busy as Turbo is starting his baseball season now, plus his martial arts, and there’s always kids playdates and birthday parties. He keeps his parents busy, so we’ll see!
That’s my five, now I’d love to hear yours! I hope everyone has a great weekend!

1. I am so very sorry about your friend’s husband. That is just too much , her having lost her daughter recently too🙏. Don’t be too hard on yourself. Many people hide illness from friends.
I am worried about Silver too. I keep saying prayers.
2. I’m guessing that package was delivered to the old house so you would get to see how happy the new family is. God works in mysterious ways. Did you get to see the baby?
3. You’re a better person than I am. I would certainly blame the mom. It’s a pattern with parents where they don’t parent. I’m sorry but this is a pet peeve of mine.
4. How was coffee? Time with Biker Witch is always a good thing. Did you do any shopping?
5. I hope you get to see Turbo this weekend. You’re right, this is the HOT time for kid activities. Spring is when they really start getting involved in sports and stuff. The parties pickup now too, even those at school. We’re seeing with Harrison too.
1a. I went for a massage yesterday. My arm has been awful. She worked it pretty good. So good that I actually fell asleep on the couch this morning and was almost late in feeding Spunk (like he’d let that happen).
2a. My sister-in-law was having her gallbladder removed this morning. I haven’t contacted my brother because I know it’s out patient and she should be home by now and I know how busy he’ll be. I figure I’ll send a text asking for a thumbs up.
3a. We had a couple of inches of snow yesterday morning but it’s gone now. It should be warm enough that C and hubs can kayak Sunday. Fingers crossed that if they do, hubs can handle it.
4a. Every time I think I have all the tax stuff something else shows up in the mail regarding hubs investments. It’s driving me batty. I need to get the stuff to a tax guy soon.
5a. I think I’m going to go through the “crap” eldest left here (he lived with us for 4 months before going to college) and see what I can pitch/donate. There isn’t much but it’s larger stuff like stereo system and drums etc. It’s all been pushed away in a remote closet and not looked at for 27 years. Time for it to go.
I sure hope you have a great weekend and get to spend time with Turbo.’
PS – Did you see that trucker being rescued with his truck hanging off the bridge? It really got to me seeing how our first responders really go to extremes to save people.

Viki, thank you, it truly is sad about my friend’s losses. She’s very family oriented too. And I knew you’d be worried about Silver too. Hopefully she’s resting and recovering.
I didn’t see my sister, she wasn’t feeling well this morning. We’ll reschedule soon.
Now for you:
1) I’m glad the massage helped! But there are no acceptable excuses for being late with our pets meals
2) I hope your sister in law’s surgery was uncomplicated and she’s resting comfortably at home.
3) Fingers crossed hubs can enjoy kayaking with C. And maybe you can get a little break while they’re gone.
4) It’s such a pain when all the docs are supposed to be sent by the end of January. I hope everything shows up and you can get this task done.
5) Is your arm up to moving all that stuff? Kids sure do leave a lot of stuff behind when they grow up, don’t they? If you’re able to donate the bigger items like the stereo and drum kit, I bet someone will be pleased to get it!
No, I didn’t see that! I’ll search for it. But I agree with you on amazing feats rescuers will try to same a person or even an animal. It’s awesome to see!
Hope you have a nice weekend!
