Wednesday Reading

So I’ve been reading a book for weeks. I know…what happened to the voracious reader Jen who used to consume several books a week? Yeah, I’m wondering that too. However, I do like the book I’m reading — “The Lying Game” by Ruth Ware. It’s a mystery about a group of girls in a boarding school who played a game of lying…until something happened that changed the game of lying into real life survival. The book starts when the women are all adults living their lives and must come together because something has washed up on shore that can expose the lie and threaten their lives. I’m not very far along but it definitely has me intrigued.

I’ve listened to two old books, “The Bride” by Julie Garwood (love her!), and The Nightingale by Kristen Hannah (one of my all time favorites), because they were easy and familiar, making them perfect to listen to in the first days after surgery.

Now that I’m improving so quickly, I’m looking for new books to catch my interest.

What are you reading or listening to?

I highly recommend THE LOST STORY by Meg Shaffer. It’s had a lot of hype and normally, I stay away from those because I’m usually disappointed. This one was delightful. It’s Narnia meets “The Tracker” with a dash of “The Princess Bride.” The romance in it is not normally my particular catnip but this was so well done I was cheering them on. (Spoilers so I won’t say who.) The narrator was entertaining but I also read a few pages and the writing is just…right on!

Ilona Andrews just re-released another Kate Daniel book in the Graphic Audio version. Yes, I have all the books from Audible (and many in digital) but I’m sold on the GA full-cast versions. Fun! I also discovered that Patricia Briggs’s Mercy Thompson series is getting the GA treatment so I grabbed MOON CALLED (the only one currently out) from Hoopla (subscription through my library). It was really well done too!

Looking forward to Dannika Dark’s THE SINNER (just dropped) in her Black Arrowhead series. And JD Robb’s PASSION IN DEATH just dropped too. Those are coming up soon.

Oh, and one more. STRANGE PRACTICE by Vivian Shaw. It’s a vampire novel “starring” Dr. Greta Van Helsing, doctor to the undead. It’s been described as a “delightfully witty fantasy adventure.” I currently have a hold on it from the library. It’s another one with some hype but the description intrigued me enough to give a shot–from the library so no $$ involved. LOL

Hope you enjoy the rest of your current book and good luck finding your next read. Also, I totally get the whole not reading/listening deal. It was a couple of months before I got back into the headspace and mood and now I’m back to zipping through books again. :-D

The not getting to read is all to familiar to me 😉. You do know that you have had big life issues going on lately that maybe the cause to the slow reading. Just saying.

The book does sound interesting. If I ever get caught up I think I’ll try it out.

I’m about to start my latest political read, Jonathan Turley’s The indispensable right : free speech in an age of rage.

I’m keeping you in my prayers that your healing is coming along and that you aren’t pushing things 😆.

No baby yet? She’s happy where she is 💕.

    Have a great day!

Silver, you have a very complete reading list! I wrote two of the title/Authors down, so thanks!!!

We all change and adapt to our needs at different times in our lives. It took me a long time to learn to have even a modicum of patience with myself.

And since it’s Thursday the 5th when I’m answering this, let’s hope Charlotte arrives. She’s been stubborn and we don’t want to have to push her so today would be great!

    Happy Thursday!

Viki, hope you’re enjoying the political read!

I’m trying to not overdo, I promise. I do miscalculate occassionally, and it’s usually accidental. But overall, I feel like I’m doing well. I’ll find out what my surgeon thinks tomorrow.

No baby yet. It’s getting harder on them. I’m happy as long as mom and baby are doing well. Should be soon!!!

Hope you’re day is going well!
