Friday Five

TGIF! Time to jump right into sharing five random things about our week. Here’s mine:

  1. It’s brutal hot. It was 111 degrees and humid here yesterday. Today is supposed to be the same and last through the weekend. Thankfully we have A/C and I’m grateful for that.
  2. No baby yet as I write this about 8pm on Friday. My daughter-in-law saw her doctor and they tried to nudge things along. First babies are stubborn! But all that really matters is that everyone is healthy and when baby girl arrives — mom and baby are in good shape. Well, dad too, but you know what I mean :-)
  3. Today (Thursday) totally got away from me and became exhausting. I had my day planned to manage all the tasks I hoped to do while still recovering — but the heat, Maggie having another episode of bladder accidents for a few hours (these episode come and go in serious weirdness but her vet is trying to help her), and a dead car battery ended up crowding the day and making us both tired. Probably I shouldn’t have tried making sourdough just yet…but…well…I did :-) So I shall take a bit of blame. I wasn’t lifting anything heavy though!
  4. In an upside to yesterday, I ran over to Youngest’s house to pick up an extra watermelon they had, and to go over instructions to pop in a couple times over the weekend to play with my grand dog and give the dog sitter a break. (She’s way more than a dog sitter, she’s a family friend, but dog sitter describes the situation. And yet I feel bad calling her a dog sitter and I had to add a parenthetical to point that out….maybe I’m really tired!) This quick visit on my part should have taken five minutes but Youngest and I got to talking and we lost an hour and a half! As I was driving home, Wizard called and said, “Did you lose track of time?” Um…yeah? But it was a great break to a long day! Also Wizard finds me losing track of time hilarious because it’s so rare.
  5. Today is my follow up with my surgeon. I hope she has the biopsy results to give us the best information. But we have had no reason to expect anything other than good news. As for the rest of the day and the weekend — it’s baby watch and checking in on my grand dog when needed. And resting a bit more than I have this last day or two :-)

That’s my five, now I’d love to hear yours! I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend filled with all the things that bring you joy!

I am sooo sorry for your heat wave! I saw some video of big cracks forming from the grounderwater drying up (or something…). We finally got some relief but we were only that hot with the heat index, not the actual temperature! Baby is stubborn and has decided it’s cooler where she is. Days have a way of fleeing when we least expect it–or want it! Losing time with family is the best! 🤞🏼 on good news from the check-up! Laid-back weekends are the best! Okay, my five:

    1. I caught a second glimpse of a hummingbird at the feeder. That’s TWO this year. LOL I have to admit, I don’t exactly sit and stare at the feeder and I have refilled it several times this summer. I don’t believe ants can drink a cup of sugar water in a week so…they come, I just don’t see them.

    2. I have a new favorite ice cream: Cappucino Chocolate Chunk. Luckily, we have no room in the freezer at the moment so I’m not pigging out on it.

    3. The book. 🤦🏼‍♀️ I’m up to about 138K words. It is a monster. And Iffy just stabbed the plot with her scissors, throwing in not one but TWO curves, both of which make sense. She’s gonna win this one.

    4. Jake has gotten to go twice to Starbucks this week. He’ll get to go today, too. I need one more frappucino to get 90 bonus stars. LOL It also gives me time away from the computer and I can chastise Iffy out of her hearing. That’s my story and I’m stickin’ to it!

    5. Obligatory Pete Story of the Week: Today is trash day. LG put the “Big Blue” out at the curb last night. The kitchen can needed to be emptied so I did that and ran it out to Big Blue. This was early, after feeding cats, ferals, and Jake in and out. Pete came with me. This is not unusual as he is indoor/outdoor cat. Anyway, I decided to go ahead and feed the birds while I had the garage door open. While doing so, Pete took up his “throne” (a tree stump that also has his climbing tree growing out of it). A black cat came strolling through. I think he’s a feral but he doesn’t often come to the porch to eat so I’m not sure. Anyway, he stalks through and freezes, staring at Pete. Pete stares back. Then he does this parkour move up the climbing tree, back flips off, dashes from the driveway island to under LG’s truck and then he scuttles back into the garage under my Highlander. The black cat and and I stare at each other. I say, “Cats.” He meows and stalks off. I can’t decide if he was agreeing with me or affronted by my assumption. Why do I NEVER have my phone ready with the video open and with fast enough fingers to press record! :sigh:

Tomorrow is First Saturday so siren test and lunch with the Kids. Sadly, my Cowboys play at 11 (test is at noon) and they are on regular TV so not sure if we can stream on the phone while in the truck. The restuarant is a sports bar so we’ll get to see at least part of the game. Sunday afternoon is soccer. Yay!

    Have a great weekend, all!

    1. Sorry about the heat. That is really WAY too hot! A?C is a blessing.
    2. Yup, first babies are very happy in their little home and will arrive when they feel like it. Hopefully she makes her entrance this weekend.
    3. Yikes, Thursday sounds like it was trying. If you made the dough, I hope it turned out great!
    4. That’s really kind of nice that you and BLB lost track of time and enjoyed your visit. Wizard is a hoot ☺️.
    5. Sure hope all went well at the follow up with your doc. Yes, you do need to take it a bit easy today. I hope you did but somehow I see you as having found something to do 😄.

1a. Yesterday was speech therapy day. He was argumentative when I reminded him of the appointment but when she arrived he seems pretty good. I’m hoping this helps because what I saw yesterday is pretty much what I do now.
2a. It’s going to be a cool weekend and then back up into the 80’s. It’s roller coaster September.
3a. Harrison got his hard cast off on Tuesday and is now in a soft cast for 2 weeks. With how hot and humid it is in Nashville I bet he’s happier.
4a. My brother is having his shoulder replaced Monday. He has really had a bad couple of years health wise. It’s a reverse replacement which is where they put the socket in the arm instead of the shoulder. Either way – yikes!
5a. A little Thai place opened in town 4 days ago. I’m talking C into trying it tomorrow. Hubs will argue anything but if C okays it things are usually okay.

I hope you have a great weekend and that the little one arrives 💗.

Silver, yeah the heat sucks. Even Maggie is like, nope not going out there. Thanks all on — dr appt went very well. I’ll talk more about it Monday if I remember :-) Seriously on this baby, LOL!! My daughter in law and son are handling it well, but I sure feel for her. And wow on the video of heat cracks — I haven’t see it but a lot of our infrastructure is old + earthquakes so I wouldn’t be surprised.

    1) Sounds like you have sneaky hummingbirds this year :-) Also — nothing would surprise me with ants…just saying…
    2) OMG I want it so much!! That sounds like the best ice cream!!
    3) Sheesh if Izzy making up for lost time???? Sounds like she’s in a super creative mood! But the book will be great!
    4) I get going to Starbucks when writing! I used to do it too. It just helps somehow. And Jake obviously needs to go!
    5) Pete is athletic!! I think I sprained something just reading that, LOL! I’m guessing the black cat was surprised you didn’t acknowledge the way her terrorized Pete into death defying acrobatic moves to escape his stare. Also I never have my phone either!

Hope the siren test goes fast so you can get to the restaurant and see the game! Enjoy the weekend!

Viki, yep it’s hot and icky. First babies really like to follow their own plan, that’s for sure! My dough is still fermenting int he fridge, but it should be fine–thanks! My dr. appointment was great — I’ll tell you guys more on Monday (if I remember with baby girl coming soon). Oh and thanks! I’m trying to have a slower, quieter afternoon, but you’re not wrong about me finding things to do, LOL.

    1) Clearly you were doing all the right things for hubs and his speech/communication issues. But maybe having another person work with him too, maybe help reinforce things for him? And also give you a small break.
    2) September is like that! Why people are always surprised amazes me. Sept is either all hot here, or playing quick change artist.
    3) I bet he’s relieved to get that hard cast off in the heat!!! I’m so glad he’s healing well.
    4) I’m cringing for you brother, but once he’s recovered, hopefully he does much better. I’m sorry he’s faced so much these last two years. It really does grind on us, doesn’t it?
    5) I hope you guys go and you’ll tell us about the place Monday. Thai food is something I want to try more of.

Have a great time with C if you go to the restaurant and hope you enjoy the weekend!
