Late Friday Five

Sorry I’m late! We are fine, just a lot going on. But lets dive into Friday Five, just in case any of you would like to share yours.

  1. We’ve been safe from the fires so far, and things are improving. We’ve been “downgraded” to warning level. Wizard and I unpacking today and cleaning up where we can.
  2. The fire is still only 8% contained, and has burned more than 24k acres. And there’s more fires burning. One we know was started by an arsonist and that’s infuriating.
  3. Yesterday, I went out to help with my new grandbaby! OMG she’s totally adorable and I love her so much!! She’s tiny, about 6 lbs 9 oz, and amazing! Her parents are doing great — I’m so proud of them! they had some rough but they handled them and all is well. I had planned to stay the night last night but ended up coming home late at night because I’m tired and plan to make food to take back this weekend.
  4. Also #3 is my reason for not posting my blog when I should have. I don’t have access to the site on my phone, and everything else was packed.
  5. I’m so tired, but even more happy. But have so much to be thankful for. Baby girl’s birth wasn’t easy, but she’s here, happy. Now I have to run to the store and unpack stuff!!

That’s my quick five, and I’d love to hear yours if you have time to share!! Have a great weekend!

Whew! Glad y’all got downgraded. I was checking the fire map this morning and realized I don’t have your new address but know it’s not far from the old so I could “extropolate” locations. 😉 Awww. Baby time! Sorry for the rough spots but sounds like all is well now and that’s good. Tiny babies are so adorable! Hopefully you can get a nap this afternoon and be ready to cook up a storm tomorrow! My five:

    1. I was hoping for The End today. Yeah…not gonna happen. The dang book threw several curve balls my way and while they weren’t a swing and a miss, I do have the bases loaded and need a grandslam to tie them all together. Do not ask why I’m all basebally-metaphor today. I have no clue.

    2. While on the topic of the book, I should finish Chp. 47 today while closing in on 147K+ words.

    3. After teasing us with a hint of Fall, the heat is coming back and still no rain. We aren’t as bad as y’all out there so I’m not complaining, just looking for 5 things.

    4. I just got my author copies of a duology from Harlequin. They paired a Maureen Child book with my BILLIONAIRE COUNTRY for a French language release. Always fun to get that in the mail!

    5. Obligatory Pete story of the week. He and Loki got the zoomies as I was getting ready for bed. Pete chased Loki into the bathroom right before I walked in. Loki zoomed out between my feet and darted under the bed. Pete immediately took up guard at the foot of the bed staring at the the puddle of bedspread on the floor. As I cam out of the bathroom, I caught glowing yellow eyes in the shadow at the corner of the bed. I stopped and waited, as Pete was stationed at the middle of the bed. Sure enough, Loki did the unexpected. Normally, he “charges” from under the bedspread at the middle. This time, he pulled a flanking move, attacking Pete from the side/rear. Loki jumped over Pete and scampered to the kitchen, Pete hot on his tail. I heard scuffling and when I peeked into the kitchen, every anti-fatigue mat in there was askew and LG was standing in the “passage” between kitchen and dining room. “Are they gone?” he asked. I nodded and said, “You’re safe now.” Except, here came Pete from the dining room, between LG’s legs with Loki hot on his tail. They “drifted” around the corner, putting one of the mats back into place and darted into the bedroom. LG and I looked at each other and said simulaneously, “Cats!”

Have a good and safe weekend, all! No plans that I’m aware of. I think soccer has been rescheduled. I do need to make a clothing buy trip to Walmart. I should go today but I don’t wanna…. *whine* Maybe Jake and I will go earlier in the morning tomorrow. We’ll see.

    1. I have been so worried about you and when I didn’t see a post from you early this morning my thoughts went to bad. Thank heaven you have been downgraded.
    2. There is a special place in hell for arsonists.
    3. Yum! New baby! I bet she is so sweet. Glad you have been able to go over and spend quality time with the new family.
    4. What a great thing to for you to do. Making food is so nice because they will be so busy learning how to be mom and dad.
    5. You must be tired. I hope you got to take a nap.

1a. I scheduled my flu shot for next Wednesday.
2a. Hubs started obsessing about getting a flu shot. I couldn’t get him to understand that the updated shot wasn’t here yet. It was finally available where he gets his shots, so I took him the other day.
3a. Speech therapy seems to be going okay but I honestly don’t think it will do much. He’s stubborn and just won’t work at it.
4a. I made an appointment for my car at the dealer for the yearly check-up and oil change. There is a recall. So I ask about it and am told they don’t have the parts. I asked what exactly the recall was and it’s two screws in the back hatch area that need to be replaced and the luggage runner. Cab you imagine that they don’t have screws. OMH!
5a. My brother’s shoulder replacement went pretty well. He’s in pain but coming along. Things like that really bug me because I remember my grandmother and her having her knee replaced and how hard it was. It had to be replaced again 10 years later. Yikes.

I hope all continues to improve out there. Have a wonderful time with the baby and an excellent weekend!

Silver, thanks! It think I’m roughly a mile from our old house, so I’m pretty sure you were able to get a rough idea. It’s looked even better today, but there’s a part of my town that was in the path of the flames. I don’t think we know yet how many structures were lost. The baby is so sweet, Wizard is there now playing Grandpa. I’ve been working all day, but that’s okay, I’m feeling more caught up and plan to rest soon…or someday, LOL.

    1) This book has been packed with curveballs and challenges. But you’re handling them all like the writing pro that you are!
    2) That’s a crazy word count! The book is going to be amazing! Hope you got the chapter done.
    3) Sorry the hit’s taking aim at you again :-(. We got a bit of a break yesterday and today and that’s helped the firefighters!
    4) That is awesome that you’re in a duet with Maureen!!!
    5) I got dizzy trying to keep up with Pete and Loki! They are have way too much fun playing chase! Sounds like you and LG are very experienced at freezing in place until the frenzied hurricane cats are safely out of tripping range :-) Cats are endlessly entertaining.

Sympathies on the clothing trip! Otherwise, I hope you have a great weekend!

Viki, thank you so much! I am sorry you were worried, it’s been a lot of stress and managing things the last few days. However we’re the lucky ones and very grateful. I agree with you on arsonists!

The baby is such a joy to all of us! Just like Turbo was, and of course, still very much is! Grandkids are incredibly special and they deep our relationship with our kids too. I love it.

I should have rested, but can’t until I get things done. It’s okay though, it’s all working out. Now for you:

    1) It’s hard to believe it’s flu shot time again! Time is flying.
    2) You are so good trying to soothe his worries, and I can’t imagine how frustrating it must be at times when he doesn’t grasp why something isn’t available yet. I’m glad you were able to get him the shot so he’d let it go. Hubs is lucky to have you.
    3) We are glad to be able to see her and her parents now too. But they were understanding and knew we couldn’t get there.
    4) I’m rolling my eyes at not having the screws. I don’t know — can they really be that special? But then I guess car dealers get inundated with these recalls now, so maybe it’s a scheduling/logistic issue. But it’s really annoying when we get this urgent notifications about recalls and then wait months for the fix.
    5) I’ve been thinking about your brother! I hear it’s a lot of pain, but I’m glad he’s improving as he should. He sure has been through a lot. Fingers crossed he gets a long break from health issues and pain.

While not completely out of the woods, I think we are getting much closer! I really hope you have a good weekend and get to do something you really enjoy.
