Wednesday Reading

One of the funniest (to me) books I’ve listened to in a long time: The Starter Villain by John Scalzi and read by Will Wheaton. I totally bought this on impulse when I was on Audible to look at the ones recommended by Silver. I, um, got distracted! I don’t want to give anything away, but if you like weird twisted humor and aren’t easily offended (by dark humor or salty language) give it a try!

Since then, I haven’t tried to listen to another book because I’m not ready :-)  Also, keep in mind, I was listening to this during a high stress week, so the humor was exactly what I needed.

And in reading on Kindle, first I dumped the last book I was reading. It started strong and then got lost in endless descriptions, pointless encounters and too many characters. Maybe I’ll go back to it later. Right now, I’m reading “Working Stiff” by Judy Melinek and TJ Mitchel which is the biography of a Forensic Pathologist. I can’t remember how I stumbled onto this one. This book is, for me, delightfully well written, although sometimes starkly graphic. Also, this is normal reading, right? Not weird?

And I have a book on nutrition/diet on order. Now I happen to know exactly why I bought this book — I love the author on podcasts. I could listen to him all day. And so, I ordered his book to see it more critically through reading a physical book, rather than being hypnotized into blind belief by his voice and manner on podcasts. Also totally normal…I think :-)

Okay, maybe my reading selections aren’t precisely normal, LOL.

So what are you reading, intending to read, or recently read?

A book by a forensic pathologist? Totally normal! (For me, anyway! )

“I dumped the last book I was reading. It started strong and then got lost in endless descriptions, pointless encounters and too many characters.” See…this is EXACTLY what I’m worried about in this behemoth I”m currently writing! *muppet flail*

I may give the Scalzi a try. We all no I’m into the weird and dark humor.

I’m currently doing a marathon relisten to Suzanne Wright’s Olympus Pride ParaRom series. The newest release finally dropped in audio so I’m refreshing my memory on who’s who and what’s what. There’s a lot of humor, good characters, “weird” shifters (Pallas Cats, wolverines, bush dogs in addition to the usual wolves, big cats, etc.), and there’s lots of sexy bits which I tend to zip through. Once I finish, I’ll check to see where my library holds are and figure out what’s next.

I hope your nutrition book is as entertaining and informative as you found the author’s podcasts. Happy listen/reading. 📚 🎧

Silver, I know that feeling, but you usually have read through by trusted people, so I think you’ll be fine. And you tend to keep action moving, so relax :-)

I brought another book by Scalizi last night. He entertains me for sure.

I need to check out Suzanne Wrights — I can’t recall reading her but I forget more than I remember in books, LOL. I love para so it might be a great fit. And yeah, I skim the sexy stuff now too.

I hope you’re typing away on your book!!!

Wright is prolific! She also has some vampires in one or two series. Her three shifter series are so entwined that I finally set up a timeline for the first two to read them in chronological plot order. LOL The original series is her Mercury Pack. SPIRAL OF NEED is the first book. The books are quick reading (thought the paperback 322 pages) or listening and I still laugh at parts of them, even after multiple rereads. It’s free if you have Kindle Unlimited.

You have a nice variety of reading.
I’m reading a political book and I just picked up a book by our local weather guy who just retired.
    I hope you’re having a great day.

Silver, evidently I have her Olympus Pride series in my audible library. I downloaded the first one to listen to, and we’ll see if I remember it! I’ll also check out her Mercury Pack series too. I don’t have Kindle Unlimited, but I grabbed the sample and can swing the $3.99 if I get hooked :-)

    Thanks!!!

Viki, I’ve found lately that I need variety. Probably because I’m not “working” so I need different things to keep life interesting.

You have a weather guy? LOL! Wizard knows all the weather people on TV, while I just look at my phone. Hope you love his book! It’s interesting to get find out more about folks, isn’t it?

My day was good yesterday and today so far. Hope your week is going well.
