Wednesday Reading

I was getting so irritated at a book I was listening to that was supposed to be a mystery — until I realized I had missed that there was two women protagonists, not one. There’s a single narrator and she’s pretty good, so this isn’t on her. It’s me — I’m baking and doing a bunch of stuff while listening so it just slipped by me. And somehow the book was coming across as one woman whining about a breakup.

Once I caught onto the chapters alternating between the two women’s POVs the book got much more interesting!  There is a women upset about the breakup, but there’s a mystery (or maybe a suspense) brewing up in there too.

I’m not always the brightest, LOLOL!! But seriously, I’d never miss this when reading a physical or Kindle book, but I sure can listening to an Audible book while I’m doing other things at the same time. Especially since I’ve been doing random math in my head while baking for doubling and quadrupling recipes. Plus I change the technique and that requires a shift in baking temp and times. So much math :-)

I’m guessing you all don’t make this same mistake????

Happy Wednesday!

It depends on the narrator–and, truly, the author. Some are much better at the shift than others. I’ve read books and listened to others where the two females have the same voice–and I mean that in the written version. The narrator tries to distinguish but when they “sound” alike on the page, they’re pretty indistingishable. I’m used to listening to books while I’m multitasking so I only seldomly have to stop, rewind, and really pay attention.

The book I’m currently listening to is narrator by Stella Bloom and she’s all kind of awesome. Narrators who do series and manage to keep the voice characterizations straight book after book amaze me!

Happy Hump Day and baking. I’m debating the need for a Wallyworld run. I should go but… ugh. I’d rather just curl back up in bed and snooze.

I’ve never tried an audio book. I suspect I’d get all screwed up and distracted and wind up missing most of the story, so yeah, I can totally see how you missed that change.

Have fun baking! We have Starlink as of last night, so life here is pretty damn happy. I can comment on blogs without it being a huge PITA again. Yay. Now I just need to get back in the habit of stopping by. Have a great day! :hugs:

I don’t do audio books but I’m glad you were able to get a hold on the narration and are now enjoying the read.

Do the baking math can make listening to anything more of a challenge. Have fun with all the baking😋.

I went for a massage this morning. I really needed it. Huns was not happy with me leaving but it is what it is.

It looks like all my packages are on the way here. Fingers crossed they arrive before next Wednesday.

    Have a great day!

Silver, I agree the narrator and writing make a difference. i really think this time it was me though :-)

So true about narrators! I’ve come to really admire the good ones! I have to look up Stella Bloom as a narrator — that name sounds familiar.

If you went to Wallyworld, I hope it was a quick and easy trip! Last time I was there, the lines were long, but the checker was hilarious and that helped.

B.E., I got into the audio books more after I developed tinnitus and they help a lot. But yeah, I can get distracted and lost the plot. It just depends what I’m doing.

I’m sore from baking so rethinking my life choices right now, LOL! But I do love it too.

YAY!!! I’m so happy for you guys now!! Getting a reliable internet is key to getting a lot done online. And it’ll make your writing easier when researching and uploading files! I’m happy dancing for you!!

Viki, I ultimately enjoyed the book, so I’m glad I caught on too. It was totally me. i started a new book today while baking and need to back up a chapter or two — partly because Wizard was talking to me and I forgot to turn it off.

Getting a massage is good! You need to prioritize your health and hubs will just have to deal with it. You’re really smart to do it.

That must be a huge relief to know the packages are coming and should arrive in time. Buying everything online can be convenient or a major pain in the backside.

Hope you’re relaxed from your massage!
