Weekend Roundup

I had a good weekend. I went to my local RWA chapter meeting, and I did Ask An Author. That’s one of my favorite things to do. Basically, for an hour before the meeting, I sit at a table where anyone can join in and ask questions.  It’s very casual and fluid–if other authors are there, they also join in with their experience and knowledge.  The reason I like these kinds of events is that I really feel like I can help people individually.

It’s no surprise that most of the questions were centered around the digital/electronic market.

So that was fun. Plus I got to hang out with friends!

Yesterday (which is today, when I’m actually writing this blog)  I woke up cranky with a stiff neck. I’m hoping that goes away, I probably just slept wrong.  But after breakfast, Wizard escaped to the gym, and then found things to do in the garage. I suspect my crankiness chased him out of the house. The wuss :-)

I am loving my new project! It’s slow going as I build the world and get to know the characters, but of course, I won’t know until the entire proposal is done and my agent gets a look at it. I count on her honesty and she never lets me down.

But not a day goes by that I don’t think about the Wing Slayer Hunters.

So that’s my weekend, how was yours?

Glad you had a good weekend. I chase my hubs out of the house all the time – I think it’s on purpose

My weekend was good. Our eldest son is a graphic artist and he had some work he did promoting THE AVENGERS movie (that’s being shot in Cleveland) displayed. So we went to the opening.

Can’t wait to hear more about the new project. But like you the Wing Slayers are never far from thought.

Sorry about your neck. I hope it’s better today. And yay for your new project. I’m keeping my fingers crossed. (I want a new Jennifer Lyon book to read.)

Over here, I’m working on a new attack plan for editing my 2010 NaNo novel. I printed it out and attacked it with a red pen like usual, but now instead of just entering the edits into the old draft, I’m retyping it into a new file. It really seems to be helping me see what needs to be fixed – beyond what the red ink found.

So, I did some of that this weekend, read, started cleaning and reorganizing my two back rooms – where I store most of my books, and watched TV.

I went to my first in person book signing. Nora Roberts own’s a book store Turn The Page Books less then 30 miles from where I live. This saturday they had an event with her, Meg Cabot, Leslie Parrish, Deanna Raybourn and some local authors. I got a couple of friends to go with me and we a great time. Nora Roberts is of course one of the first Romance authors I read. I started out as a Harliquin Romance reader junkie at 15. Read them under the blankets at night with the flashlight because my sister who I shared a room with would yell at me to turn the light off. It was so much fun to be around so many other people who love books. There were some people from Cleveland and Baltimore and even futher there. We all bumped into each other and talked books and kids and it felt great to connect with so many other women. I had Meg Cabot sign a book for my daughter “The Princess Diaries” and I picked up one by Leslie Parrish. It qualifies as one of the top 50 days of my life. :-D

Viki, that is so cool about your son! You must be very proud!

All the Wing Slayers are very happy to be in your thoughts. I think they like you better than me.

B.E., my neck seems better, thanks.

Retyping the whole thing? And that’s working for you? I usually copy and paste a new file so I can change anything I want without worrying about losing something, but I can see where retyping it would give you even more freedom. You are working so hard, you deserve to get noticed soon!

Sounds like you made some cleaning progress too. Which is good, because I sure didn’t do any cleaning. Will have to do it today or tomorrow.

Kat, I know of Nora’s bookstore, and I’m jealous that you got to go! And what a great signing too! It sounds like a great day!

Oh I’m jealous of Kat too!

Saturday I didn’t do anything during the day, I just laid around and read all day. That night a group of us from my TKD school did a night 5K run, that was fun. I’m not a runner but I run part of it and walked the majority of it.

Sunday once again I didn’t do anything but read.

Our house is on the market and my husband is driving me nuts because he feels like we can’t do much or we’ll dirty up the house. Hence my reading. But I feel like I worked hard for 3 weekends to get the house ready to go on the market and now I can relax.

Kat, I love Leslie’s books but they are DARK! Just warning you. COLD TOUCH is made of awesome as far as I’m concerned.

I spent the weekend hiding from the heat and getting lots of words written on my new “secret project.” I have until August 1 to get it done so I’m trying really hard to stay away from the net. It’s such a lovely time suck, though! ;)

Yay on the new project, Jen! Here’s me shaking my pompoms for you! (And cracking the whip! Get to work!!!) Yeah, yeah. I’m going back to work, too. *sigh*

I spent the weekend with the boys! :) I re-read all the books, and yes I mean all of them. I read fast! lol Hubby and I also took our boys to see Cars 2 in 3D. They loved it! Other than that it was a relaxing weekend!

Crossing my fingers your agent likes the new world and all that!!

Amanda, this is a great time for you to read, then. And my sympathies at having a house on the market. I was the nutjob that wanted the house prefect all the time back when we sold out old house. I’m way over that now :-)

Silver, you’re working hard! It’s going to be awesome!

Ugh on the heat. We finally got hit with it too, although today’s not bad.

Shiloh, I heard Cars 2 was really good.

    You’re re-reading all your books?

Yeah, it started out with me just re-reading your books and Nalini Singh’s Psy/Changeling series. (Which I completed this Friday of last week through today) But then the hubby put a freeze on buying new books :( So I decided I would go ahead a just re read all of them. I have 170 on my Nook and probably another 80 on my bookshelf. I donated most of my books to the library a couple months ago, so I’m going to have to make a few visits! But with my boys on summer break, and my summer classes over I have a great deal of free time on my hands that I don’t want to spend cleaning! lol

Shiloh, your husband put a freeze on your new book budget? Couldn’t you guys just give up food instead? :-) Seriously, though, rereading is a good option! And MUCH better than cleaning!
