Weekend Roundup

A good weekend! Yesterday, Wizard and I went to see Baby Slayer. He’s four weeks old now. Time’s flying by! While we were there, more and more family showed up and I was forced to share my grandson, LOL! It was nice to see everyone.

Okay some proud mom/grandma family rambling here–feel free to skip it and jump to the bottom to tell me how your weekend went if you like.

While there, CPA Boy and Special K gave me an early Mother’s Day gift. It’s a stunningly pretty silver bracelet. It was all I could do not to cry. They told me that now that they have their own child now, they understand more of the work, love and sacrifice, and wanted to thank me for being a mom, and for my help with Baby Slayer. Here’s the thing–they always showed their appreciation, so I enjoyed being able to help. I will always cherish this bracelet for the love that motivated the gesture. I’ll probably go out once this week so Special K can get some homework done, and it gives me one on one time with Baby Slayer.

We also discussed plans for Middle Son’s wedding, or more specifically a wedding shower for his beautiful bride. Here’s one of their engagement photos:

I’m proud of all my sons, and just want to take a moment to talk about Middle Son. He’s my wild child, hugely successful and driven, with a big heart, if I were typecasting him as a hero, I’d say: He’s the tough hero with heart of goldĀ type. This is the boy who would sit and watch any chick flick with me even as a teenager and young adult. Middle Child ALWAYS answers his phone when I call (unless he can’t, like when he’s flying), even if it’s to say, “Mom, I’m in a meeting, is this important or can I call you back?” Middle Son put himself through college, while working full-time, and now he runs the sales department in a tech-related field and has traveled most of the U.S for work. Last year when Wizard was in the hospital, he tracked down his two brother before I could find them because he’s a an intensely focused problem solver, and he takes care of his mom when he knows I’m stress/worried/scared. Middle is also the one who brought Bailey Dog into all our lives, and Bailey changed us forever. And this woman he chose is smart, compassionate and expanded our world, igniting Wizard and my interest in wine tasting and other things. She has quickly learned my kitchen and helps me cook, or takes over cooking when I’m doing something else. She’s family focused, loves dog, and volunteers for a rescue org. proving she is willingly to put her time and energy in causes she cares about. In the last years of Bailey’s life, she became the one and only “mom” Bailey ever had, coming into his life exactly when he needed her. Watching the way she loved Bailey, and took care of him even when he was older and not easy, made Wizard and I love her all the more. We are proud and thrilled our son chose her for his wife and our daughter-in-law.

After sharing all that, I want to say one more thing. After enjoying Baby Slayer and talking to Middle’s fiance about her shower, I then turned to Youngest Son’s (BLB) fiance and said, “Next year is all about you and your wedding.” She was so happy. They had to put off their wedding while her mom went through some really scary medical stuff this year (she’s doing well), but we are so going to make sure they get their moment in the sun when their time comes! They really deserve it!

Enough of all my family joy :-)

This week, I’m going to write scenes I’ve been planning with my go-to plot partner guru, Marianne :-) Plotting is a LOT easier than translating the ideas into actual scenes. Now it’s time to buckle down and just do it!

So how was your weekend? Even if you don’t read all my rambling, I really want to know about YOU. Each and every one of you are important to me, and I love hearing how your lives are going.

I love hearing about you and your awesome family. I’m so glad the boys picked wonderful mates to spend their lives with. :hugs:

As for me, I’m pretty boring right now. (Okay, pretty much most of the time. LOL) Friday I finished that work project and sent it back to the office. Then I worked on my edits. Early Grave should be released at the end of the week. And I read a bunch. Silver’s latest – Montana Moon – rocks hard. Then I read a middle grade time travel fantasy which was pretty cool. And last I read an old crime novel which wasn’t my favorite but still enjoyable.

I’m sitting here blinking tears. You and Wiz raised such wonderful men and they show it every day. And they’ve chosen such wonderful women to share their lives with. Your family is truly blessed. MS MUST be a hero in a book. And OMG that photo?!?! That’s book cover material! Just sayin’…

So…there was a weekend. I mostly hibernated. Did a little work. Not enough, but a little. Mainly, I need a deep brainstorm session for plotting out the over-all arc of the Red Dirt books and how each individual book fits into it. Took until last night for Lawyer Guy and I to finally hook up without outside distractions so he could help me focus. He’s so good at that–getting me to focus in on the right path and then narrowing down the possibilities. Today will be synopsis writing now that I know what’s going on.

It’s been windy and friggin’ cold! Hence the hibernation. I have contest books to read. I keep procrastinating but gotta get on that. Time is running out. I didn’t get to spend time with Stormy because the weather canceled Baseball Boy’s tournament so he stayed home with Storm while Only went to get her hair cut/colored.

That’s about the sum total of my life. And by the way, I <3 you too, Jen!

    B.E., thank you!

You’re not boring! You got a lot of work done, and I really admire your drive and focus. You’re juggling two jobs (the other job, and writing/publishing) plus life. Impressive! And you managed to read on top of that

Silver, thank you too! You bring tears to my eyes :-) The two of them have some gorgeous engagement photos that authentically captured them. They are true beach types.

LG sounds like an amazing plot partner! You are so fortunate, and I’m glad he helped refine your story so you can capture it in the premise and turning points for a synopsis. They are brutal to write, good luck!

Bummer that you didn’t get Stormy, but I know you see him often. He’s growing so fast!

Ugh on the cold weather, and hope the contest books are good! I’ve done all my contest books for the year :-)

That’s some beautiful photo there. I thought it was from ad. Just lovely!

Aww on the bracelet. Nice how our boys can bring tears of joy to our eyes :).

Glad you had such a great weekend with all the guys/gals. Baby Slayer is 4 weeks – WOW! Time does fly. Is Special K taking courses? You mentioned her doing homework. That’s tough. Going to school and being wife and mommy. More respect for her!

Do make Middle son a hero in your next novel. That would be really fun.

BLB and lady get all of next year :).

The induction ceremony was SO much fun. Jon had Howard Stern induct the band and he was hilarious. All the guys gave speeches and it was just fun.

I spent 8 1/2 hours working with Microsoft yesterday and another hour today – beat. It looks like I’m finally fixed but I’m not holding my breath.

We had tornados all around us last evening and we’ve had over 2 inches of rain. Flooding all over the place. Snow tomorrow ;).

    Have a great afternoon :).

Viki, thanks their photographer (a friend) did a great job. And absolutely true on our boys, it made all the work, worry and sleepless nights worth it!

Special K is in the master’s program. She’s going to hopefully take the summer off though, she needs a break as a new mom! But she’s really trying to get through this semester, and I’m helping where I can (so is her family).

It had to be amazing to be there with Howard Stern doing the induction, what a great job your son did! You must be so proud!!

I’m crossing my fingers that your windows is fixed. You have to be so tied and over it by now.

I just heard about the tornadoes a little while ago–stay safe! The weather is really creating havoc, I hope everyone in the path is okay.
