Friday Five
TGIF and how crazy it is that we’re in October? It’s been the longest and shortest and weirdest year. Anyhow, time to share five random things about our week:
- I sent SAVAGED DEVOTION off to copyediting, yay! I also have formatting scheduled for November. Probably the hardest thing is to accept I’ve done the best I can on the story I love.
- I’m very grateful that my two editors and formatter are all working me into their schedules. But that also means I don’t have a firm publishing date. I’m shooting for mid November for SAVAGED DEVOTION’s release.
- We went and looked at a new one story house. First time we’ve done anything close to house shopping since Covid, and of course, we did all the things we’re supposed to like wearing face masks. We both liked the house, but there’s always a drawback like, you know, not winning lotto
- Maggie has a well check appointment on Saturday, and is due for two vaccine boosters. Thankfully she has another two years before she needs rabies booster since that shot makes her sick.
- I’m making lists to publish and do some mini-marketing, and since I don’t have an assistant at this moment, I’m going to need to clone myself. I have so much to re-learn, or learn for new things.

Yay for sending SD off! It won’t be long now, even if you don’t have a firm date. Yay! Yay for achieving some slight semblance of normal by going to look at a house. Poor Maggie. Shots are a bummer. I wish I could help you with all your stuffs, but I would make a poor assistant and my cloning machine is in the shop. ;o)
1) Despite my vow to stop being such a toad, I am still not getting much done. I need to activate my inner slave driver and crack the whip. This barge ain’t gonna row itself up the Nile.
2) Owl called yesterday. She’s doing well.
3) Since I’ve been trying to limit my grocery shopping to once a month, and we’re getting close to next trip, my freezer looks like it belongs to Old Mother Hubbard.
4) It’s getting near to raking time. It’s a chore, but it’s good exercise.
5) It’s also getting close to the time I can go play in the woods again. We’re getting down into the high thirties and low forties at night, which will make the snakes and ticks go dormant. Yay. I can’t wait.

Exactly what B.E. said with an additional and hearty, CONGRATS! Finishing and letting go is always hard! 💖 Maggie. My five:
1. We’re sort of looking at houses, in a very abstract way. Moving would be a hassle, this house is paid for though needs work, but would be nice to be closer to kids, yada yada. Which means we’ll be here for another 20+ years.
2. I made headway on NIGHT WISH. It’s over 60K now and I really want it around 50K. I’ll be deleting scenes today and tightening the plot arc. If I’m lucky, maybe by Sunday, it’ll be ready for editing. Maybe. Or not.
3. Got the opening scene written on the next pressing-deadlne book, FIGHTING FOR JUSTICE. It has to be done AND edited by November 30, for a pre-order and release date of February ’21. It WILL be only around 50K and is pretty straightforward. I know the big climatic scene. I just have to do the whole relationship thing and tease in clues about the crime, along with firefighter bonding time between the heroine and her fire crew. Fun times.
4. A flock of little gray birds hit the honeysuckle bush and the pan beneath the outdoor faucet that’s dripping. There were a few chickadees mixed in and I thought for a minute, they might be titmice but nope. Loki had a ball. The window was open and they FLITTED! Like crazy. Cat TV.
5. Tomorrow is First Saturday–that means pancake breakfast, siren test, and Mexican food with the family! Yayayay!

1/2. Excellent job getting SAVAGED DEVOTION off to copyediting. I hope you are able to have it out in November.
3. Looking at houses is still fun even if the lotto is not in hand. I’m glad you got to do something normal. That alone must have felt great.
4. I hope Maggie does okay with her shots. It seems like pets are just like kids and shots make them tired.
5. Wishing you success in cloning yourself ;). Seriously, I know you’ll do a great job.
1a. I ordered the special deal on English muffins from Wolferman’s. They weren’t supposed to arrive until next Friday. Well, they’re here and I haven’t defrosted the box freezer yet :(.
2a. Hubs is going to take me to Harrison’s Monday morning and I’ll ride with Cassie to work and she’ll do my hair. Hubs will come pick me up (when my hair is done) after playing with Harrison. Her new location is just too far for my leg to drive.
3a. Cassie also informed me that the cost for getting my normal stuff done is $60 to $80 more. I’m freaked!
4a. It’s a nice cold day so it’s bisque tonight.
5a. Youngest’s ribs are still bad. It’s two weeks tomorrow. He didn’t believe me when I told him ribs can take up to 8 weeks to mend.

B.E., such a bummer that your cloning machine is in the shop, LOL! Some of this stuff is just me shaking off the dust and brushing up again. I’ll manage like you do, and all the other authors do
1) Hope you can shake off the sluggishness. It happens to all of us, so you’re not alone.
2) That must have made your day to hear from her and know she’s doing well.
3) I’m in awe of your ability to do a once a month shopping!
4) Raking is definitely a chore.
5) You’re smart to wait until it’s safe to go in the woods!

Silver, agreed, letting go is hard. Sometimes we just have to yank it from out inner perfectionist’s death grip. I don’t know when my CE will get to it, and refusing to think about it.
1) Totally on the same page with you on houses. We have to find the right house in the right area at the right price to motivate us to do it.
2) Cutting and tightening is tough but you can do it!
3) That’s an aggressive timeline, but if you know the climatic scene, then you probably know, or at least have a glimmer, of the black moment and internal/external conflicts that drive the story. Butt in chair and type!
4) Cat TV made me laugh! I bet Loki loved it!
5) Wow that seemed to come around fast again, but glad the family time and fun!

Viki, in the past only the rabies has made her sick. Fingers crossed! We all hate when our fur friends don’t feel well. But the well check and shots are important for her health.
1) Doesn’t that figure?
2) Great that you get to see Harrison, but it’s a bummer that her new location is so far and makes it harder for you to get there. I’m sorry about your leg, is that from your hip or nerve pain?
3) Mine has gone up too, so I know how you feel.
4) Enjoy your bisque and the cool weather.
5) Bet your son believes you now on his ribs. He must be really frustrated.
