Weekend Roundup

Happy Monday! It was a whirlwind of a weekend! Our house is under contract with a very short escrow. So this Saturday was the inspection. I guessed that the new buyer would want to bring family out to show off the house they were buying (which they did!), so Wizard and I cleaned as if showing the house, took Maggie and were gone before 9am. When we got back, we had both Middle Son and his wife coming out, plus a notary for another set of endless documents. We got the notary done, then took the kids over to see the house. And after that we all went out to dinner and just hung out. And Kudos to Middle Son and his wife for braving nightmare traffic due to some road closures to get out here. Wizard and I truly appreciated their effort.

Once they left, Wizard and I were exhausted from two weeks of nonstop cleaning, showing, going through offers, etc.

Sunday, Wizard was able to go racing, and I had a nice morning of a long walk with Maggie, a yoga practice, then as I was finishing getting ready to go see my sister, the fire department knocked on my door. Okay, it was a single firefighter, but it sounded more dramatic to say it was the fire department :-)  We had literally just put in a request to have a fire inspection because we live in a fire zone a day or two before and they already showed up! But actually it was pure luck because he was inspecting a house up the street that sold weeks ago. The firefighter told me that if he hadn’t been able to work our house in on this stop, we’d have had to wait another month which would have delayed escrow. This is a California new requirement for the sale of the house.

Can I just say that it’s ridiculous that our firefighters are having to do this?  Our fire crews here are invaluable and need to be available instantly, not off doing inspections that some city employee could be trained to do. Our house is fine, because we fully understand the fire danger and don’t invite fiery disasters with dead brush or debris.

Also,  a little humor. When the firefighter was at my door, I was figuring out if I should let him go through the house to the back or not. So I asked him, “Are you really a firefighter?” LOLOL! I didn’t think a bad guy would say “No, I’m a serial killer trying to get in your house.” But this guy answered, “Ill show you my badge and I don’t need to come inside your house, just walk around the outside of it.”  That was the correct response. So I had him come through the house because Maggie was in the backyard and I didn’t want him to scare her. :-)  And yes, he was in a uniform, but I was looking for the right body language. Plus he knew we’d submitted the form through our escrow company less than 48 hours ago. All that said, my question of “Are you really a firefighter,” still sounds dumb, LOL. He took it in stride through. As it turns out, he’s married and has an 18 year old daughter, so he fully understand I was evaluating my safety.

Once that was done and signed off, I went to the new HomeGoods store with Biker Witch and we had lunch. I got to catch up on her Hawaii trip. I’m jealous in all the good ways! But I also LOVE that she got spend a week with her daughter.

When I got home, youngest son was in our driveway getting ready to leave. He saw me coming, and hung out with me for an hour or two. I love when he stops by so I’m glad I caught him before he left.

It was a really good weekend. I’m sure this week will be busy and spring-loaded with some small stresses here and there, but soon, if all goes well, we will be renters here in this home until our new home is ready! And so far, that is still on track for early August.

How was your weekend?

Holy Quick Sale, Batman! Will you be able to stay in the house until the new one is ready? 🤞🏼 (that’s the crossed fingers emoji)

LOL on the firefighter. We actually have an inspection department. They’re firefighters but their primary duty is inspections–they have do check all the businesses for compliance and stuff. It’s mostly older guys who aren’t ready to retire but who no longer enjoy getting up in the middle of the night to rush out to an emergency. They get extra training and get to put in extra toward their retirement so it’s a win. And in Cali, I can see the need for a true “fire hazard” inspection on home sales.

Yay for Biker Witch and Youngest time! Yay for Wiz racing and Middle and Wife making the trek. You have such an awesome family.

Can you tell I did nothing this weekend? I mean…literally. I did nothing. My right shoulder is messed up again but at least the PA and I have figured out why. The stand my mouse is on is 3-5 inches too tall. Any time I do a lot of mouse work, it puts my shoulder in a weird position and angle. At least my keyboard is at the right height. Anyway, I’m looking into solutions but don’t really have one until either Booner moves from spending hours a day under my desk or I finally get my office rearranged. Yeah, let’s not talk about that, um-kay?

Stormy is here pretty much off and on for the week. Going out to dinner to celebrate Aunt Hooie’s (SiL) tonight. Uncle Fix-It insists cards only and he’s picking up the tab. Who are we to argue? LOLOL

Still no movement on car for Kids. I’m sooo not a happy camper but keeping my mouth shut. Okay. Time to get productive. After another cup of coffee. ;)

Congratulations on the contract for the house. I knew it would go fast. That’s how it’s been with every person I know for the past year and a half.

I love the fireman story. You did exactly the right thing even if it sounded funny. I bet he was happy to see that you were an aware clear minded citizen.

That is so nice having BLB stop by like that. Glad you got home and caught him so that you were able to visit.

Sounds like you had a great time catching up with Biker Witch. She must have had a wonderful time in Hawaii.

Did you pick up anything cool for the new house at HomeGoods?

My youngest signed the papers this morning and he now owns his house. I’m very proud of him. He saved up for a long time and was able to put WAY over the 20% down and he’s only going to have a 15 year mortgage.

It’s heating up here and the humidity is climbing too. I will be staying in the house as much as possible :).

I hope you have a fantastic afternoon!

Silver, thanks! We have a rent back until August 21st, so we have a good chance of getting right into our new house. But if something causes a serious delay, we’ll deal with it then. One step at a time :-)

I wish we had a full time inspection department that inspected the properties that need it. This targeting homes sold is CA is new in the last year, and as typical, it looks like infrastructure was not put into place to execute it. But I’m sure it’ll get sorted out in a few decades, LOL.

I’m so sorry about your shoulder. Repositing the mouse to a better height should help. I hope it doesn’t turn out to be something more. Pain like that really sucks. Hope you feel better soon!

And it’s a good think you did nothing this weekend. Rest that shoulder and it will heal faster.

The kids need to get their car so you can have yours back!

Hope you have a great week with the “on and off” Stormy time, and have fun tonight at the birthday dinner for your SIL!

Viki, thanks, we are happy about the fast sale. And thanks on the fireman story :-)

HUGE CONGRATS to your youngest!! You have every reason to be proud of him! It’s a big deal that he saved for so long with the goal of home ownership in mind. Mine did the same, so I get it. Lot’s a sacrifice, patience and hard work goes into that. And it shows he can plan. I’m so happy for your son and for you!

Hope the heat doesn’t get to you too much.

I believe your brother’s surgery is coming on Wednesday or thereabouts. I will be thinking about him and you.

Happy Monday! And holy cow, that was fast. Congratulations and good luck with all the stuff between here and closing. Yay for Middle Son and wife coming to visit and for a nice Sunday. Yay also for getting the home inspection done in a timely fashion, I’m glad Biker Witch had a nice visit and that you two got to catch up. And another yay for time with BLB. I hope the rest of the week goes smoothly for you. :hugs:

It’s been hot here. Mid to upper 90s. Blech. So we haven’t been doing too much. I applied for a job Friday and I got a call for an interview this coming Friday. Might be fun working again. We’ll see how it goes. Other than that, I made carrot cake. Oh, and Lumpy the deer came by with one fawn, so we thought that was it, but tonight she showed up with two. Yay twins!

B.E., Well it’s Tuesday when I’m answering, so Happy Tuesday, LOL! Sorry for the late answer, we’ve had printer complications that infused our Monday with drama. It’ll all get sorted. And thanks, the offers came in fast and now we hopping with inspections and appraisals and documents and details :-)

Sorry about the heat. I know it’s hitting much of the country now.

Yay for Lumpy having twins!! So cool! And for carrot cake!

Wow a job! Hope you get positive news soon if it’s a good fit for you. Very cool!
