Friday Five

TGIF!! Time to dust off our imaginations and come up with five random things to share about our week. Here’s mine:

  1. There’s a Cat 2 hurricane heading for Southern CA. Um…what??? I heard that and thought it was a joke. It is expected to downgrade significantly before hitting land (assuming it does). However apparently strong winds and heavy rains are likely. Okay…not weird at all for So Cal in August. Mother Nature, is it possible you’re having a stroke? You might want to consult a medical professional like immediately. Just saying…
  2. I feel I need to point out that I’m not excited by refrigerator shopping. We went out yesterday to get started. Our current fridge is okay, but very old, so we budgeted for a new one before we get in a situation of the old one going out. And since we know some people are experiencing delays in getting things delivered, we’re figured we’d better get on it. I found one I really like, but then Wizard went and ruined it by making a valid point about the ice maker. The upside is as long as the old fridge hangs on, we are not in a rush and I can figure out the best option in our price range that satisfies us both.
  3. So the other day I came went into the kitchen after doing some yoga, and Wizard was making himself some breakfast. I’m innocently drinking water, when he blurts out, “When did I start looking like a walrus?” I choked so hard. Then laughed — not at him as he does not look like a walrus. But the sheer randomness of that comment totally undid me. He’s been frustrated this week with some of the limitations that come with the years which I can understand and go through too — but I can NOT figure out how he decided he looks like a walrus. Or why he chose a walrus. I mean I have so many questions, LOL! I did reassure him once I caught my breath, :-)  I’m not mean just easily entertained!
  4. I don’t think I ever mentioned this: Remember I had an infection that was causing nose bleeds? Well my doctor wanted me to see an ENT. I called the  ENT, and the very first appointment they have is in early November. I’m just shaking my head. Oh and I was nice to them, I believe they are really that booked as most specialists are in our area, but I keep thinking about people with a more urgent need to see an ENT. As for my stuff, it can wait but I’m  still grumbling on the inside because I’m always impatient to just get things like that done and off my mind. However, my x-ray came back fine, and we stopped the bleeding, so no one is worried. This is like a common sense follow up as some of the symptoms have persisted. But who knows, by November the remaining symptoms could be gone and the wait will be a win for me.
  5. This weekend’s plans may be affected by — and I can’t believe I’m saying this — the hurricane (yes, yes, I know it will lose power and we’ll be fine, but this is so weird to me). Right now I’m planning to make two kinds of cookies — chocolate chip with walnuts and what white chocolate chip macadamia nuts from new to me recipes that are supposed to be dupes of the famous Levain bakery in New York. Then Wizard and youngest are planning to go to see Wizard’s brother to help out with a small project, and I’ll send some cookies if they come out. If they do not come out, then there might be two hurricanes in So Cal because baking ingredients are getting crazy expensive in my humble opinion! Just kidding, my opinion is never humble, LOLOL!

That’s my five, now I’d love to hear yours! I hope everyone has a truly wonderful weekend as we all deserve it!

ARGH!!! I somehow blanked out/deleted my comment as I was typing. 🤦🏼‍♀️ So, starting over. Mother Nature is on a margarita binge and Hilary has been upgraded to a Cat 4. Just sayin’. Appliance shopping is ugh but wise to do it now before it turns into a panic buy. Random is very entertaining especially when espoused by a spouse. Getting any medical appointment is an exercise in frustration. ALL ingredients are expensive now. Hope your weekend plans and cookies come together. Ok, my five:

    1. Starbucks took pity on my and gave me a coupon for a free frappucino because I’m in the top 1% of frappucino fans. Not sure what that says about me.

    2. Progress was made on editing this week. Very slow, not very steady, but progress.

    3. After teasing us with two BEAUTIFUL Fall days, Mother Nature has gotten drunk again. Today is forecast for 100. Tomorrow 105 and Sunday 103, both of which will set records. Needless to say, I ain’t moving out from under the AC unless it’s an emergency!

    4. We have confirmed that the people who moved in across the street are not squatters. AT&T was there yesterday hooking up phone and internet lines. ;) Also, being nosy and watching their comings and goings this week, I have come up with a new floor plan for when I get around to rearranging my office. It involves much less movement of furniture. FYI, I was slightly inspired by your new desk, Jen. Mine has a hutch but I’m thinking of taking it off and balancing it on my two small matching file cabinets and using them as a credenza behind the desk, against the wall. Desk would then face TV cabiinet in front (no obstructions other than monitor, and full view of the window on my right side. I shall contemplate this during the heat wave. ;)

    5. I have totally confused Pete and feel like I should read Robert A. Heinlein’s “The Door Into Summer” to him. When he’s inside and considering going out and I open a door different from the one to the garage he’s used to, he gets confused. Understand that there are TWO doors to the garage–one from a hall, one from the Florida room, which has a door to the backyard and then the front door to the porch and feral cat station. Each door presents a different view and he sits there a minute confounded before he makes up his mind whether to stay or go.

Silver, I saw the Cat 4 upgrade, and we are paying attention. I just now looked again, and our area is in danger of potential flooding. We just talked about preparations like securing all the outdoor stuff as best we can, and we have food, water, flashlights and generators. So…we’re prepared I think (I’m inexperienced at this) If floods come, then we hope to have enough time to get out. Other than that, we just do what we do, I guess :-). We all know these storms can shift and move at will so we’ll see.

I just wanted you to know that while I’m making fun of the idea of this hitting us, I promise in RL we are paying attention. We believe in being prepared when possible.

    Now for you:
    1) Frappuccino’s are delicious in my memory. I haven’t had one in years. And it sounds more like they are celebrating you rather than taking pity — you’re an important customer. While I’m a lazy customer who rarely makes the effort to stand in line, LOL.

    2) All progress is good!

    3) We just came through a couple days of that heat and it sucks. Hugh sympathies.

    4) Good to know your new neighbors are not squatters! And I love your office plan. The way we have this set up, the window is across the room on my left and easy to gaze out of without too much glare that aggravates eye strain. Hope you get the same result. And I love your credenza idea!!! Seriously. I think that would be perfect. I’m going to add some come of corner table or cabinet behind me at some point, probably some floating shelves on the wall to the right. Maybe :-) I do the same as you — day dream and look online for ideas (or I assume you do that anyway).

    5) It’s funny, but at the same time, clear proof that Pete likes to think things through before attempting them. Also according to Maggie, it’s a time consuming decision on whether or not to go outside or stay inside once the door has been opened by the human servant.

I hope you have a great weekend and fueled by Starbucks Frappuccino’s!
