I finally finished a hardback I bought called “Ultra-Processed People” by Chris van Tulleken, who is an Infectious Disease Doctor in the U.K.. But for me, this bestselling book in food science wasn’t what I hoped it would be. I do like his message in general, but I don’t like the helplessness, and I found the book tedious at times. But other people love it, and I’m happy for them.
Then I listened to “The Boyfriend” by Frieda McFadden. It’sĀ a mystery where I actually rooted for the heroine to die, LOL! I liked the mystery quite a lot, but the heroine and her constant harping about finding the right guy while dating all the wrong guys had me been plotting the ways the real killer might unalive her. But nope, she lived. Still I did enjoy trying to figure out who the killer was! I do like this author.
And now I’m listening to “The House in the Cerulean Sea” by TJ Klune and loving it so far!
Up next is another hardback I bought, “That Will Never Work” by Marc Randolf about the birth of Netflix. I’m looking forward to reading it.
And on recipes, I tried a Lemon Herb Grilled Chicken for company this weekend to accompany a Tri Tip I also made. I loved this recipe and so did my son. Also it had flavor! That’s been missing from my life on this two week low iodine diet (and yet, I somehow manage to eat a ton of food because I’m committed to eating, LOL). I’d happily make that chicken again. My only change was that I added the zest of the lemon to the marinaded, and I marinaded it all day while the recipe says no longer than two hours.
What are you reading and any fun recipes you want to share?

Ah, the ups and downs of reading. I hate when I pick something up hoping it’ll be really good and then it’s yuck or meh. :hugs: Yay for yummy recipes, though.
I’m not really reading a lot lately. I’ve been trying to get this book through its first edit phase – which is going super slow because it was a super dirty draft. So many errors that will need fixing. Ugh. The only thing I read that wasn’t mine was Silver’s – and that’s not for public consumption yet. All I can say about that was that it was made of awesome and I can’t wait to read it again after it’s published. I did try a new coffee cake recipe this week, but it didn’t turn out, so I won’t share it. Other than that, I did my usual pizza recipe and I also made a vat of chicken soup that was pretty yummy. Today, I’ll try to get around to making cookies. I found this chocolate cookie recipe that’s to die for. I need to type it into the computer so I can share it… one of these days.

I may have to start looking at “food” books. LG’s pain doc is doing some blood work to see if maybe he’s gluten intolerant. Is it bad that my fingers are crossed that he’s fine with glutens? I’ve not read TJ Klune but I see his stuff everywhere. I may give it a try eventually. The chicken sounds yummy.
I’m currently doing a marathon listen to Darynda Jones’s Charley Davidson series. It’s been since like 2014 since I last read them and this is the first time in audio. I stopped somewhere around book 10 and there are 13 plus 3 novellas. My library is wonderful! And yeah, I’ll probably eventually go back and buy the Audible versions. I’m currently on SEVENTH GRAVE AND NO BODY so about halfway through the marathon.
On the recipe side, I came across one for Lemon Shrimp Scampi. I haven’t tried it yet but it looks pretty easy and tasty because shrimp! And lemon! And WINE! Happy to share if anyone wants it.
Okay. Back to edits/revisions. This puppy might be ready to upload over the weekend! š¤š¼

Your chicken sounds good. I always marinate all day too. It never seems to ruin things and it makes things easier on me.
I’ve read a few books on food science and I have found them interesting and full of good facts. My problem is that I don’t EVER see myself making the huge changes that science calls out.
That’s funny, you rooted for her to die. By the sounds of it, I would have wanted her to die too.
I got my hair done today. My next two appointments are 4 weeks apart because of the holidays. I’m used to 5 weeks but the white stripe won’t be there for Thanksgiving and Christmas š.
Have a great day!

B.E., my standards are very different these days too. I don’t spend as much time reading so I’m pickier, I guess
Editing makes it hard for me to read, both from fatigue and my critical brain in on and won’t stop, pretty much ruining the fun of reading. Plus you have a lot going on in your head doing a big edit.
I’m excited for Silver’s book! And it’s great that you and Silver have a partnership in reading each other’s manuscripts!
The chicken soup sounds so good, and pizza is always a win. Hope you tried out the chocolate cookies today!

Silver, I hope LG is not gluten intolerant. I’m guessing they’re testing him for Celiac, which is not being able to have any gluten — like even cross contamination. Back in my day of doing all this, the rest was a process of elimination to figure out non celiac gluten intolerance, but they’re may be an updated test. I also really hope they can find what’s causing his pain and alleviate it. Sorry for way too much info, LOLOL!
I remember how much you liked her books! I think I tried Darynda’s book on your recommendation. I like them but never really stuck with them which is common for me — I call it Reading A.D.D. I should check them out again!
Wine and lemon make an excellent sauce even without cream. Speaking of shrimp, it’s another thing I can’t eat until my tests are over. Lots of seafood contains iodine.
Wow sounds like your very close to pushing “Publish.”

Viki, I’m guessing you like to prep ahead as much as you can too. It really does make things easier! And I think the flavor develops more.
I’ve read a few books now too. I understand the concepts, but you’re right, Change Is Hard! And it’s harder when we cook for another person in the house too. But we all do the best we can, and stressing about it is bad for our health, too, right?
I really wanted that heroine to die!! But the book was good, I just don’t think this author should write straight romance, LOL.
I do four weeks apart on my hair now, and lately it’s been three due to events or schedules. It’s so expensive I need to stop that! I hope you love your hair today!

I think you tried her Sunshine Vicram series which is actually only a trilogy so it fits in with your RADD. I think you read A BAD DAY FOR SUNSHINE but didn’t go on to A GOOD DAY FOR CHARDONNAY and A HARD DAY FOR A HANGOVER. The Charley books are about the Grim Reaper and the Son of Satan. Talk about a match made…somwhere between heaven and hell.

Silver, how the heck do you remember that??? Yes I read A BAD DAY FOR SUNSHINE and I eventually read the other two, or at least the second one.
I’m pretty sure I tried a Charley Davidson when it first came out, but it didn’t really grab me at the time. But I suspect that was situational to where I was in my life then so I may give the series another try
But right now, I’m reading a non-fiction (a physical book). Then I’ll see what I’m in the mood for. My mood really drvines my reading choices.
I still can’t believe you remember which books of hers I read!! That’s amazing!
