Reading

I haven’t been reading paranormals lately and I REALLY miss it! I’ve been doing reading for a contest, and a lot of market-research reading. And then a friend gave me THE ACCIDENTAL BESTSELLER by Wendy Wax and told me I should read it, how could I resist? I’m reading it now. It’s really good, and if you are at all interesting in what publishing is really like, read this book! It’s a women’s fiction that follows the careers of four friends who met while unpublished, then all published. One of them has a major crises…and well, you have to read it.

But as soon as I can I’m going to do some serious paranormal reading!

So what are you guys reading, and what are you NOT reading that you wish you were?

I’ve been rereading Lora Leigh’s Breed series. I just bought all of them in ebook format. I’m now reading them in chronological order. The only problem with that, I’ve found a lot of inconsistencies. Timelines that don’t match from book to book, statements in one book that are contradicted in another. Maybe I’m just picky, but that kind of thing really bugs me. Other than that (and occasionally wanting to bitch-slap the men) I’m enjoying rereading these books. I also still have Yasmine Galenorn’s BLOOD WYNE waiting for me. I also preordered Kresley Cole’s DREAMS OF A DARK WARRIOR, which comes out today, for my Nook.

Sounds like an interesting book. Thanks for recommending it. =o)

Right now, I’m reading Roadkill – the latest book in Rob Thurman’s Cal Leandros urban fantasy series. I just finished an awesome YA/SF called Across the Universe by Beth Revis. I don’t know that there’s anything I’m not reading that I wish I were. I read everything and try to mix it up. I just wish I could read faster because I have a lot of great books in my TBR pile. Plus, there are some incredible books coming out soon. Arrghh. Must read faster.

I just finished contest reading, too. In the midst, I went for an author I’m comfortable with–Jayne Ann Krentz. I’m reading her Arcane Society series in order. I’m on BURNING LAMP, which is #8. Two more after this and then I will be sad. I’ve enjoyed this series and how they all tie together–past, present, and future and how she writes across three pen names and the Arcane series ties in with her Harmony series, which I loved!

I’m waiting on books from JD Robb and some witch named Jennifer Lyon. ;)

Dawn, when I read chronologically ( very rare for me) those things bug me too. As I writer,I know we have to tweak things with characters to make the current story line work. As a reader–I don’t care, stuff like that still gets on my nerves :-)

FYI LL’s Bound Hearts series is even hotter, but it also pushes more boundaries so you have to be comfortable with that to read it.

I’m going to download Kresley’s book too!

B.E., it’s interesting but don’t let it deter you! I’m a bit more than half way through, maybe 2/3s of the way through and so far, it’s very accurate.

    Silver, how’s your knee?

I know you’ve been on a Janyne Anne binge! The contest reading really takes a bite out of any pleasure reading, doesn’t it?

The knee is getting better. I’m done with contests for awhile, so now I’m reading just for fun and to step back from my WIPs occasionally to get perspective. :D

I’m always reading something paranormal/fantasy or sci-fi ish. I like reading about stuff that doesn’t happen in normal everyday life. I’ve got one of those ;) I read for excitement and adventure and I tend to find that more in this genre (YA and Adult)
Unfortunately, there’s too much I wish to be reading to list – I can’t seem to find the time to just read ’till bed time, after the kiddies have gone in and me and the hubby are done watching our shows.

Silver, so relieved to hear your knee is better. I’m done with the one contest although I have another one on the horizon, but that one I should only have to read a couple partials.

Take it easy on that knee!

Ban, I have a real life too, LOL! I agree with you on that! And finding the reading time. I spend so much time working and catching up on other stuff, my reading time suffers.

YA is pretty cool, isn’t it? I don’t read enough of it, but when I do pick one up, I really enjoy it.

    Dawn,

Lora Leigh switched publishers early in her Breed series and the publishers wanted some things changed. Once you get to the newer books they follow the timeline much better. If you get on her website she explains the reasons for the timeline descrepencies and stuff. That is a huge pet peeve of mine as well!
