Whatcha Readin’?

Happy Friday! Wizard is off today, so I may only write a half day, we’ll see. I finally had a breakthrough on something I’ve been stuck on for a loonnngggg time now, so I need to work. But Wizard often lures me away from work and into the pool. Given the 100+ temps around these parts, that’s not hard to do. Tomorrow I”m going to my local chapter of RWA meeting and really looking forward to it.

On Tuesday, two of my good friends had releases. Laura Wright’s newest release her in Mark of the Vampire Series ETERNAL BEAST. And Kate  Carlisle’s news addition to her Bibliophile mystery series PERIL IN PAPERBACK. I was even able to get out of the house and to Barnes and Noble on Tuesday to buy both books.

But I couldn’t decide which one to read first! The decision was agonizing.

So I copped out and started reading Lorelei James’ ALL JACKED UP.  Usually I love her books, but this one isn’t my favorite.

So that’s what I’m reading. How about you?

Have a great weekend!

I just finished TEAM HUMAN and am about to start Cynthia Eden’s BLEED FOR ME. I don’t know why, but Amazon hasn’t shipped ETERNAL BEAST to me yet. It shows it won’t be delivered until the 17th :(.

I’m glad you have the pool. It must be awful in the100’s. I can’t stand the heat.

We’re finally supposed to get some rain – God I hope so. It’s been so dry and hot.

Nothing exciting planned for the weekend – I’ll take it ;).

Have a great time at the RWA meeting. Enjoy your weekend.

Right now, I’m reading Darklands by Nancy Holzner (Deadtown book 4) in paperback and a collection of short stories by writer/artist Quent Cordair called Lunch Break. I’m also supposed to be critiquing a dystopian novel, but I keep getting distracted.

Which brings me around to what I’ll be doing this weekend – querying. A writer friend read one of my previous books (a suspense called Dying Embers) and badgered talked me into giving it a new shot out there in the world. Keep your fingers crossed. And keep the appletinis handy. I may need one or several. ;o)

I’ve been sickly all week so have had a lot of time for reading along with my Olympic obsession. Mostly I’ve been reading new authors that I received from a book swap, and I’m sorry to say none of them wowed me. But, I just finished Jeaniene Frost’s ONCE BURNED and enjoyed that. ETERNAL BEAST was NOT at my local Barnes & Noble stores this week! HUH???? I live in a big metropolitan area– what’s the deal? I should just download it, but I have BN gift cards and don’t really care for their reading app. I’m between books and have to decide what to read next. I think it will be between a new author (to me) Viola Estrella’s BEWITCHING YOU, Sara Ramsey’s SCOTSMAN PREFER BLONDES, and Christine Feehan’s SAMURAI GAME.

Jen, I have pool envy. But, I’d be in it every day and I’d have to be drug out kicking and screaming, so it’s probably a good thing I don’t have one! Speaking of heat, I’d better go get the husky dog out on his bicycle ride before it hits 106.

    Happy weekend everyone.

Viki, that’s weird about Amazon. They may not have ordered enough, but that’s just a guess.

I’m going to look up TEAM HUMAN, I don’t recognized the title.

The pool is great, we invested in it since we tend to stay close to home on vacations anyway. The boys really enjoy it to when they come over. But it’s a lot of work for Wizard (who doesn’t seem to mind). I couldn’t go in when I had the virus, but I plan to today!

    Enjoy your quiet weekend!

B.E., my fingers are crossed! Are you querying traditional or digital? You may not want to answer, and that’s fine. Either way, I’m puling for you!

    And what a great friend!

Julie, I hope you feel better! I’m so sorry you’ve been sick. Believe me, I empathize.

That’s unbelievable that your B&N didn’t have ETERNAL BEAST! I’m fuming (because I’m friends with Laura). My B&N did have it, so it makes no sense.

I read ONCE BURNED and liked it too. IT wasn’t until after I was done that I realized I’d have liked a but more worldbuilding. But while reading, I was just following the story :-)

So sorry for making you jealous of the pool! We rarely ever go on vacations and saved for years and years :-)

I have a late day today in office till 7pm. So weekend will have to wait. Reading? I have been trying to hunt down things by the last 3 authors that will be appearing at the weekend I am going to. There are 15 altogether and I have managed to read something by 12 of them.

BE- Yes Try- dust off the book. The publishing world may not have been ready the first time you presented it. Times and tastes have changed. Think about E-publishing or even self publishing it. I think sucess for a writer at heart is more about having there work out there for those who want to read the story than about how the story got out there or how many people read it.

Gotta go- Have a great weekend everyone.

Thanks for the encouragement, gals. I’m just trying to find an agent at this point, Jen. If they take my book traditional or digital, I don’t care – as long as it goes somewhere. ;o)

Jenn- TEAM HUMAN is a YA by Justine Larbalestier and Sarah Rees Brennan. It has a bit of a different take on vampires/zombies. It was okay. I like Sarah’s other books more.
I can’t understand the Amazon thing because I pre-order my books the day they get listed. I wonder if it’s where I’m located?
I’m glad you’re getting in the pool today. It had to have been so hard when you had the virus and you couldn’t go in. Does Bailey swim? PeeWee will not go in water unless forced ;).

Jen, 100 degree temps… Ewwwwww! We had those not long ago and I don’t miss them. It’s finally cooled off here (only in the 70’s this weekend :) ) Have fun at your meeting!

B.E. – Good luck w/ the book! I hope you find someone who loves it. So that I can read it :D

Julie – Hope you feel better soon!

I’m in the middle of Lora Leigh’s STYGIAN’S HONOR. It’s great but I haven’t had much time to read this past week. Too much time @ work :( I read Donna Grant’s HIGHLAND MAGIC before that. I have four other books that came out this week waiting on my Nook; Angela Knight’s MASTER OF DARKNESS, Christina Dodd’s WILDER, Laura Wright’s ETERNAL BEAST and Shannon K Butcher’s FORGET ME NOT. And I still have to find time to get to B&N to buy Sherrilyn Kenyon’s TIME UNTIME. Not to mention all the other books waiting for me to find time to read. *sigh* I need to win the lottery so I don’t have to work any more and can have all the time I want for reading :)

    Happy Friday, witches!

Kat, hope your late day at work on Friday went fast! And wow, you’re going to read books by ALL 15 of the authors at the event? That’s dedication and I’m impressed!

So sorry for my late replies–time just got away from me.

Viki, Bailey never volunteers to swim, probably like PeeWee. He will step on me if I’m laying on the raft, but he doesn’t like the water much. He often barks when we swim, running up and down, trying to get us out. It’s pretty funny :-) Then we make him go in the water to cool off.

Dawn, it sounds like reading should be your fulltime job! I hate when real life interferes, LOL!

It’s finally very hot here, and I’m thankful for the air and pool, but so not looking forward to the electric bill!

B.E., go for it! Agents are a good place to start. If you decide to go the digital route, you can probably do that without an agent if you’re comfortable.
