Weekend Roundup

Oh before I forget, the OBSESSION blog tour starts today.  I’ll be Book Monster Reviews Blog. The tour schedule should be on my home page.

The weekend was fun! I was at the Orange County Chapter of RWA Birthday Bash and had the chance to visit with lot of friends I haven’t seen in a while.  Victoria Dahl was an interesting speaker, discussing the Unsympathetic Heroine. She’s very passionate about writing heroines that are more realistic and pushing the envelope.

Her opening joke had us all laughing and I’ll share it here even though it’s wildly in appropriate :-)

What does a Scotsmen wear under his kilt?

On a good day…lipstick.

Yep, I laughed!

I didn’t get as much time as I hoped to visit though. I holed up in my room trying to work out some characterization issues.  I don’t know if I’m making progress.

Friday night I had dinner with BLB (youngest son). We were chatting away and didn’t even notice our dinner was delayed until the manager came up and said they’d sent BLB’s dinner back because “it didn’t look right.”   Both BLB and I said no problem and thanked them for letting us know.  Eventually they brought our dinners and all was well. BUT the restaurant insisted on offering us free dessert anyway.  Both BLB and I were surprised. We really weren’t upset or even inconvenienced. But it was lovely of them, so I’ll just say here, Thank You Cheesecake Factory. That was classy.

Saturday night I met CPA Boy for dinner. Special K was going to a concert with her sister, so it was just the two of us. What was nice for me is I was staying across the street from the mall, so I just walked over.  I wound my way through the mall and found the restaurant. We had fun, and then I was ready to walk back.

CPA Boy insisted that he had to walk me back. This meant he was going to cross the entire mall twice for him.  But he refused to be reasonable and walked with me. I pointed out that I travel all over and always manage to arrive safely.

However, as I turned the wrong way in the mall, he said,  “With your sense of direction, that’s a miracle.”

That’ s sadly true. Shhh…don’t tell Wizard or CPA Boy, but I lost the car in the small two-level parking garage on Friday night, but I found it…eventually.

Now I’m home and banging my head on my desk trying to write this book. How was our weekend?

How sweet that you were able to have dinner with two of your boys this weekend. The RWA was at the perfect time. Don’t you just love it when managers make good on mess ups? Such a good business practice.

Sounds like the RWA was fun. I like the joke :).

I thought my weekend was going to be normal – nope. Sat. was same old stuff. But Sun. hubs sent me an email in the am which said where’s the kitty? Thinking he was being mean I ignored it. When he and 21 yr old got back from golf – Where’s your kitty? So son and I went to the shelter and got a 9 wk old kitty. I forgot how much work they are. It’s like having a baby :). He’s a tiny thing but already has a taste for wires and plants. Purchasing a squirt gun today. No name yet. Wanted to call him Spike but he screams when I do so that won’t work. Any suggestions, he’s a little tiger dude?

    Have a great day!

Yay for getting to go out for dinner with the boys. I’m glad TCF did right by you – even if you weren’t really inconvenienced. That’s just good business. And hey, free dessert! Maybe that’ll help make up for this book giving you fits.

This weekend I made cookies (the recipe’s up over at Killer Chicks), planted more bulbs (I’m a plantin’ machine), read a lot (The Doorknob Society – YA steampunk/fantasy), and finally kicked my own butt so I’d get back to work. All in all, not a bad weekend.

Ah viki A new kitten so cute. I love cats but I am not allowed to get any more pets. (5 cats and one dog, 2 kids and Hub are enough) So I go out and buy plants. I get the discounted ones that are like 50cents and are half dead then nurse them back to health. Most all my plants are indoors. Every window has at least 4 plants in it. My cats lay among the Jungle.

Despite the rain my father in law fixed the roof- while my husband sat feeling guilty because he could not see to help.

It is Monday a new week. Happy Monday :-D

LOL on the kilt joke. That one always makes me laugh! So glad you got to see the boys one-on-one and yay for CPA boy being a gentleman. CF is really good about customer service and since their desserts are marvelous…win! I’m doing a lot of headdesking over the current WIP myself. We’ll both get there!

Viki, awwwww on the new kitty. If he doesn’t like Spike, try Angel? 8)

B.E., I want pictures of your yard next spring!

And Kat, yay for roof work. It’s pouring outside and since our new roof, no drips! Sorry your DH couldn’t help but blessings on your FiL!

    Happy Monday, everyone!

Viki, congrats on your new kitty! What about naming him after your favorite shapeshifter? I know you like a lot of paranormal romances and many have cat (panthers, etc) shifters. That might be fun :-)

Your husband and son are funny! What a cute way to let you know it was time to get a kitten :-)

B.E., it was a busy weekend for you! Your yard is going to be gorgeous!

I saw the cookie recipe. Loved right up until the coconut :-) But now I want chocolate chip cookies. :-(

Kat, you really have a green thumb! That’s awesome!

Yay on the new roof. I can only imagine how frustrating it is for your husband to sit around while his father fixes the roof. But I get his dad was glad to help out!

Silver, it’s always nice to hang out with the boys. I didn’t get to see Middle, as they had plans. Next time.

Let’s stay positive and will find out way through writing the books!

Sounds like you had a great time Jen! My weekend wasn’t too bad either. We went to PA to hang out with friends for Alumni Weekend and ended up finding a house to rent. It’s small but we can make it work ’till we get everything worked out and can find something that fits our family better. For now it will be an adventure :D

I hope you get things worked out with your characters!

Leave the coconut out and add in walnuts or something, Jen. They’ll still be moist and yummy I bet.
