Happy Halloween and Surgery Snafu :-)

Surprise, I’m here! My surgery was rescheduled for Thursday at 12:30. First, let me say that Wizard and I are NOT upset. This was a system of checks and balances that worked. I got all the way to the O.R. when the doctor discovered in his pre-surgical check that the donor bone was NOT what he’d ordered. He didn’t think it was the right bone for me, and I trust him. Everyone there was professional, kind and apologetic.

Now the hilarious part. They moved me from the OR back into a curtained bay and were trying to get ahold of Wizard. He’d been with me until the took me to the surgery room, then was heading to the cafeteria to get breakfast. He had my clothes, my glasses, everything. I had nothing but the thick paper hospital gown I was wearing. The doctor pulled out his phone and told me he’d call Wizard right now. (You can see why we really like this doctor).

I groaned. “He won’t answer if he doesn’t recognized the number.” I know how he thinks–he’d just left me, so the nurses or doctors couldn’t possibly be calling him yet. Even I couldn’t get into trouble that quickly, right?  And Wizard never answers a number he doesn’t recognize unless he’s expecting a call. That’s his logic. I know exactly how he thinks.

So the doctor called while I watched.

Wizard didn’t answer.

Then the nurse tried.

Wizard didn’t answer.

I’m now picturing myself flinging off my covers, grabbing the IV pole and heart machine I was hooked up to, and dragging them with me as I stomped to the cafeteria in my flapping gown, flashing innocent people middle-aged booty, and yelling “Wizard answer your phone or you’ll never have cheesecake again!!!”

The nurse had another idea. She texted him. Wizard read that, turned around and rushed back to see what happened. The doctor saw him in the halls, recognized him and explained. Wizard sauntered in, took one look at me and said, “Seriously, Witch? This stuff only happens to you. Only. You.” Then he took my hand and told me it’s okay, that he’s glad the doctor discovered the problem before he started surgery and we’ll come back Thursday.

I was so happy to see him, I forgot to yell at him for not answering his phone :-)  I’m not actually mad about that, it’s just Wizard-logic.

And one more quick story. We went to pick Maggie up from boarding and make new arrangements for Thursday. They told me Maggie had a new friend named Teddy. The brought Maggie out, I leashed her and while we were talking, a little furball, I think a Yorkie, launch himself into the air, landed on the admissions desk and slid across it right into Wizard’s arms.

Teddy was trying to follow Maggie. It was adorable. And for a fun twist, Teddy is a rescue and needs a home. It took everything I had to say no. One dog is enough, and obviously, right now we have too much going on to ever think about something like that. But dang, that little guy was pretty cute, and so sweet. It boggles my mind how these wonderful animals end up homeless.

Okay after all that, let me finish by saying I’ll try to do a check in post at some point when I feel up to it. In the meantime, you all have a fun Halloween and stay safe while I’m gone!

Sorry you had to get all amped up to get the surgery and it was delayed. That can be frustrating. But I’m glad the doctor caught it in time.

LOL, I’m with Wizard. I don’t answer my phone if I don’t know the number – cell or landline. Too many crap calls every day. Anyone who really wants to talk to me can leave a message. But I also don’t do text messages, so lucky he does. In the case of something important going on, though, I probably would answer my phone. Just in case.

I hope everything goes smoothly tomorrow. :hugs:

Good doctor, bad news on the mix-up, but good doctor! Better to be right than take a chance. I follow Wiz’s logic, and B.E.’s. Leave a voice mail. I will listen. If it’s important/someone I want to talk to, I’ll call back. And texting works.

Sending lots of good thoughts for today, tomorrow, and the day after! *BIG hugs*

I’m not sure I could have walked away from Teddy. What’s gonna happen when y’all go pick up Maggie on Friday?

So sorry yesterday didn’t go as planned but you are SO lucky to have such a good doctor. What a blessing that he checked the donor bone and noted it was incorrect. Now you get to have fun with Maggie and the little kids tonight.

I can see the not answering the phone happening with most of us. I don’t answer numbers I don’t know. Thank goodness you had a smart nurse who thought to text. It might have been quite the sight to have you charging to the cafeteria in that flimsy gown ;).

Aw Maggie has a boy friend ;). How cute that he flew in to Wizards arms. Will they see each other tomorrow? It will be interesting to see what happens with them.

You will be in my thoughts and prayers tomorrow. Big hugs! Sending lots of positive energy your way.

B.E., that’s what I’m focusing on–the doctor caught it in time.

I ignore numbers I don’t know too. I would have answered if Wizard had been in surgery, but I know he thought it was too soon. But the text worked. You don’t do text messages? I find them so useful, especially for passing quick info. But everyone has their own way of doing things.

Thanks on the good wishes. Hopefully it all goes as planned this time around.

Silver, yep, good doctor trumps the inconvenience. They did leave voicemails but Wizard forgot to set that up after he got his phone replaced. It’s pretty funny now, and the text worked.

Thank you for the good thoughts! I’m crossing my fingers for no more surprises :-)

Teddy will be there when Wizard picks Maggie up, but he’s not weak like me. Plus they will take care of Teddy there until they find him a home. But he was cute!

Viki, I agree, I’m lucky to have a doctor who didn’t just put the other bone in even though he doesn’t think it’s the best one for me. And tonight will be fun too.

I’m glad the nurse texted too, LOL! They weren’t letting me out of that bed for a while anyway since they were monitoring me after having given me the pre surgical shot. But I imagined doing it, I wanted my clothes and glasses :-)

I’ve been teasing Maggie about her boyfriend! Teddy will be there when we take her back. They had them paired up and it was so cute. They even slept together I think (I trust their judgement).

Thank you for the positive energy. Tomorrow will be a long day but worth it if all goes well.
