Things I Don’t Get

Yep, I’m just being real today about who I am :-) So here’s some randomly selected things I don’t understand:

  1. Why people want to raise kids again midlife. Been there, done that, have the stretch marks and gray hair, thank you very much.
  2. Wanting to retire and then open a Bed and Breakfast. Um…so you want to work harder after retirement; cooking and cleaning up after people in your home?
  3. People buying bogus Emotional Support Dog certificates online to get their dogs (or whatever) on airplanes, or take their animal where they want to, disregarding rules, as well as other people’s comfort and safety. I’m 100% supportive of true, properly trained, service dogs and think they should be allowed everywhere as the ADA dictates. In fact, I’m a little obsessed with service dogs, and love watching YouTube videos featuring them. Well-trained Emotional Support Dogs and Therapy Dogs are important and valuable too, but they are not service dogs and have more limited access. Service dogs often have years of training, and are working to do things like guide a blind person, hear for a deaf person, alert for a diabetic, epileptic, and many other jobs. These dogs make the world more accessible to disabled people. The rest of the world, in my very opinionated view, should respect and applaud that, and not try to grab the perks these amazing working animals receive so they can do their jobs. **Okay, hang on a sec while I get a ladder to climb down off my soap box.**
  4. People who always have their cell phones on speaker in public places. To me, it’s just odd, but I tend to like my conversations to be private, I guess.
  5. Man Buns. Enough said, LOL!

Okay those are some of mine, now it’s your turn if you’d like to share some of yours!

Yeah…what you said! *steadies the ladder for you to climb down* Okay, here are some of mine.

    1. Man purses. Murses? Manbags? I have no quibble with true messenger bags but the little ones that are marketed to men? (Or stolen from their wives/girlfriends…)

    2. Pajamas in public. I mean, I might still be in mine at 5 pm but that’s because I haven’t left the writing cave all day. Even in an emergency, I’m going to pull on a pair of jeans!

    3. Going out to dinner as a family and everyone at the table is glued to their smartpone or tablet.

    4. Fantasy sports leagues. I. Just. Don’t. Get. Them. I don’t understand the appeal, how they work, why anyone would invest so much time and money.

    5. People who don’t return library books as soon as they finish them. Are they going to turn around and read them immediately? Paper copies, I sort of understand because it necessitates getting out of your pajamas and physically going to the library. But digital loans? Seriously?!?! (Says the person who is next in line for a book and the library’s best guesstimate is 2 weeks–the length of a loan period–on an audio book that is only 8 hours long…)

Whew! And now I feel better for getting all that off my chest. ;)

I’m on board with all of your and Silver’s items. Though I will add a few ;).

    1. I don’t understand how people can claim to love their dog and yet not have it on a leash. These idiots are asking for trouble.
    2. Tailgaters – why, you’re not going to get there faster by crashing into my back end.
    3. People that are always late. Do you not know how to read a clock?
    4. Women that put on eye make-up like Mimi on Drew Carey. They can’t seriously think it looks good and god knows bright blue eye shadow died in the 70’s.
    5. People that are on their phones while in line for anything. They are so rude to the person waiting on them. It just stumps me that they can’t take that stupid phone away from their ear for 2 minutes. Honestly, what is so important?

That really did feel good :). Thanks!

My driveway is being poured now and we should be able to drive on it Friday evening :).

    Have a wonderful afternoon.

Sing it, Sisters! I totally don’t understand any of that. Don’t get me started on tailgaters, Viki.

    1) People who race up behind me, pass me, and then are waiting there when I get to the light or the stop sign. You really risked your life and mine for that?
    2) I saw this on FB and I’m echoing the sentiment – people who buy books knowing full well what genre they are and then complain in low-star reviews about things inherent to that genre. (On FB, it was people reading YA and complaining the characters were immature.)
    3) People who buy pets either not understanding or not caring how much work and time and money owning one entails. (Okay, I did this when I was much younger and I still don’t know what I was thinking.)
    4) Facial piercings. I don’t even have pierced ears, so I really can’t understand people with pierced noses, eyebrows, tongues, lips… and don’t even get me started on the piercing of other body parts. Ew.
    5) People who can’t be bothered to pick up their own trash at the lake. Bring a freakin’ bag with you and take it away when you leave. Sheesh.

Silver, thank you for steadying the ladder for me :-) I agree with all of yours! The cell phone thing really saddens me when I see it in restaurants like that.

Glad you feel better getting them off your chest!

Viki, I second all yours too!

People chronically late baffle me. And people on their phones and rude to clerks tick me off.

It does feel good to vent now and again.

And that’s fabulous news on your driveway! I know you struggled to get it all scheduled, but now it’s all coming together.

B.E., we’re all singing today, LOL!

I agree with all, but 2 and 3 definitely struck a chord with me. The genre expectations are pretty standard. And pets–the puppy we failed with still bothers me. We know she was fine back with her rescue people, but it wasn’t her it was us.

    Good ones!
