Friday Five

TGIF! Boom, another week gone! But I’ve had a chance to catch my breath a little bit, and now, let’s jump right into sharing five random things about our week:

  1. I had coffee with Biker Witch yesterday. For once, I wasn’t in a time crunch, so that was nice. But while with her, I could not think of the word “charitable” when I describing something to her. So frustrating when a word slips my mind like that!
  2. Wizard and I had an excellent dinner at the Orange County Mining Company to celebrate our Anniversary. If you didn’t see it on my FB page, here’s a picture with the nighttime view behind us.
  3. One of my BEST decisions regarding my wedding attire was the $12.00 pair of flat sandals that I bought from Amazon. They are blush champagne colored with rhinestones. After the ceremony and pictures, I switched to those flat sandals and enjoyed the reception in total comfort! Best $12.00 bucks I spent, LOL!
  4. Last weekend was pretty wild here at our house with the preparations, rehearsal dinner, wedding, and rotating overnight guests. I’m soooo glad we decided to take Maggie to boarding. She always comes home thrilled to see us, and with no signs of any anxiety. But I suspect if she’d stayed home, she’d have been stressed with the level of chaos and lack of sleep in the house, plus we were gone about 9 or 10 hours on the wedding day, and she has no way to go outside if someone isn’t home. I’m so grateful a place to take her where she’s comfortable and secure while we’re otherwise occupied, and I don’t have to worry if she’s okay or not. Wizard is the one who pushed me to find that place, so Kudos to Wizard!
  5. New Daughter-in-Law got her cast on yesterday for the foot she broke a week before the wedding. It’s a pretty big cast! She was sore after the wedding, and really has been staying off it. But on her wedding day, she wore a sandal and refused to let a broken foot slow her down. The mother in me worried but I also really admire her sheer grit and refusal to let an injury get in the way of her joy or the wedding pictures. Now she and my son are very focused on making sure that foot heals right, and doing whatever she needs to make that happen.

Tomorrow, Wizard and I have a breakfast date at McDonalds with Turbo Terror (my grandson). Don’t be jealous, LOL! Anyway, that’s my five random things about my week, now I’d love to hear yours! I hope everyone has a great weekend!

Word-finding difficulty, it’s real and it’s deep, man. It’s why, if you were talking to me face to face, you’d think I had a speech thing. (Yes, thing is a proper replacement for words you cannot find.) I stop and start a lot when I’m talking. So pretty! I’m glad you had a nice anniversary. Yay for awesome, inexpensive shoes! Yay for Maggie and yeah, kudos to Wizard! Yay for New DIL making it through the wedding. I hope everything goes well with her healing process.

    1) I’ve written almost 9K words this month. Less than the projected amount for NaNo right now, but I’ve written every day, which is really something. Go me.
    2) I wrote 2600 words yesterday and I’m paying for it a little today. Not used to typing that much anymore. Of course it didn’t help that I…
    3) …made apple cake again yesterday. The batter is really thick by the time you add in the apples, and stirring thick stuff really does a number on my arms. Oh, well, it tastes amazing. I totally forgot when I posted the recipe that I add in a tsp of apple cider drink mix along with the cinnamon. It really makes the difference and elevates it from good to awesome.
    4) The time change is killing me.
    5) It’s gotten cold here finally. And we might get snow Sunday night. Hopefully, it’ll kill the bugs. It’ll definitely make them dormant so I can go in the woods lots. Yay.

As always, B.E. speaks for me. So ditto her responses to your five things. Here are my five:

    1) Did the Jammie thing with sick kiddo on Monday. I’m sure he was sick Sunday night (Only had ot wash ALL his bedding) Monday morning, but I swear it was like a 24-hour thing and it ended an hour after his mom left for work. Still, we got his sheets back on his bed, got his reading for the week done, plus a number sheet graph thing. 🧐

    2) B.E. Thing is a totally acceptable substitute when the brain stops firing on all six word finder cylinders. 😏

    3) Took the Highlander in for an oil change, tire rotation (I started to type “shuffle” because that came to me before “rotation”) and discovered it’ll need about $1000 more work done sooner than later. Next up is brakes. I have about 2K miles before they grind and it gets REALLY expensive. I’ll take it back in after my next HQN royalty check. My service writer is betting I only put 730 miles on until then. Yeah, it’s a 2008 and only has 56K miles. What can I say. I don’t like going out in public. 🤣

    4) Jake begins serious training today. We ordered his harness and leash that arrived yesterday. He has patches that says SERVICE DOG and SERVICE DOG IN TRAINING. He’ll wear the SDIT patch for awhile. We’re going to try Walmart, if I don’t chicken out. He’ll for sure go to the soccer game tomorrow. He’s not too sure about wearing it but he’s a good boy so it’ll come.

    5) I hit 14,447 words on my NaNoWriMo project last night. I’m ahead of the game and I’m dancing in the streets for joy! It’s been a looonnng, dry spell. Now I just have to keep it up until this book is written…and the next…and the next. It’s my job. I need to embrace it and love it like I used to. I’m working on that. Plus, 14,447 words!!!! 😊

Have a great weekend! We have soccer, poppies, and a Veteran’s Day on Monday. Plus words!

    1. Yes! Coffee with Biker Witch always a good thing :). Words leave me all the time :(.
    2. Love the photo. Happy you had a nice time. Beautiful view.
    3. Flats for the reception is always good. You made a great and inexpensive choice :).
    4. Very smart to have Maggie away and happy last weekend.
    5. Feel so bad for DIL. Glad she’s all set in the cast and will heal soon. Hope the pain is going away.

1a. I am fighting with Walmart.com right now. An order has been out for delivery three days in a row now and they never deliver :(.
2a. It snowed again :). I love it.
3a. Went out to the Chocolate House this morning and picked up huge dark chocolate covered malt balls for hubs for our anniversary. He loves them ;).
4a. I ha another stye come up. This time in the other eye. How can one go 40+ years without one and then get nailed :(. Of course two days before our anniversary. Guess no photos this year ;). No, I’m not that vain. I will have a pic taken.
5a. I’m not feeling the “get ready for Thanksgiving” vibe yet but I did buy some of the food prep stuff today. It’s so strange hearing Christmas songs already in the stores. It’s wrong!

Have a great time with Turbo (yes, I noticed you changed his name a tad ;)).

B.E., the word search game is so danged irritating. I’ve always had that problem, but it’s worse now. I use “thingie” as a placeholder :-)

    1) 9K is excellent! It may not be the goal marker, but it’s still impressive!
    2) Sorry about the pain from typing, but words!! Yay!
    3) Oh yeah, stirring thick batter can cause pain. Last time I made cookies for BLB, I had Wizard stir in the chocolate chips. I use my Mixmaster for the rest of the heavy lifting. And your apple cake really does sound amazing! I saw your post about adding the tsp of apple cider vinegar too.
    4) Time change irritates a lot of people.
    5) I think I’d take snow over the bugs too :-)

Hope you have a great weekend!

    Silver,

    1) I remember my kids bouncing back after a 12 or 24 hour bug like that. I’m glad he’s better!
    2) As I told B.E., I use Thingie which subtracts dozens of IQ points, LOL! In my defense, my sister does the same!
    3) Car repairs suck. I’m sorry! LOL on low mileage due to aversion to going out in public!
    4) Wait, Jake is training to be a service dog? I missed something! I’ll go see if I can find it on your FB or blog. Go Jake! I’m sure he’ll get used to the harness pretty quick.
    5) Yay for all the words!!! Huge Congrats in breaking through and getting all the words out!

Sounds like a busy weekend, hope it goes well!

Happy Anniversary, Viki, I took Daughter in Law lunch today and I feel bad for her too. But she’s a trooper and will get through it.

    1) Hmm, there’s clearly a problem with your order from Walmart.com. I hate dealing with that stuff. Hope you get it resolved.
    2) Enjoy the snow. It’s hot here.
    3) What a nice gesture, I’m sure your hubs will love malt balls. Also, I want to go to any store called The Chocolate House!
    4) Bummer out the stye right before your anniversary :-( Its rotten luck that you got a second one in the other eye.
    5) You’re doing great if you got some of the food prep for T-Day. All I did was rough out a list, and sent an email to let everyone know the plan.

I hope you and hubs have a great anniversary (despite the stye bugging you), and a good weekend!

Ack! Not vinegar. Drink mix for making hot apply cider. (Unless your fingers typed vinegar instead of drink mix, then ignore me. My fingers have a mind of their own sometimes.)

Jen, we’re workiung with Jake as a service dog for Lawyer Guy. Also, as a way to keep him with us when we go places. Mainly, though, as a way to help LG with his balance. Jake is very intuitive and we’ve noticed that he leans against LG’s thigh when they walk together and if LG’s blood pressure goes up, Jake is right there demanding pets. He just “knows.” So we figured I’d work with him (I used to train companion dogs when LG was in the Army) and the vest/harness is the first step. That means I can take him into Walmart and other places without hassle. It’ll be fun. I didn’t make Walmart yesterday so today is soccer. He’s been to games so it won’t be scary, even if he isn’t used to the vest. Fun times!

Silver, that’s awesome! I wondered if it was for LG. I beg with patience and training, Jake does really well.

B.E, ugh, sorry!! That was my fault, I read your comment wrong. Somehow I substituted cider vinegar instead of cider drink mix (which I’ve never used) on both your FB and the blog. Bad Jen!!
