Friday Five

Another week in our New Reality, and time to share five random things about our week. Here’s mine:

  1. This week, I ran to Costco for some stuff, and Wow they were organized! It’s the second time I’ve gone during this pandemic, and both times, they kept things moving. I’m wearing my mask, being careful and washing my hands :-)
  2. I had a medicine refill mistake that was 50% my fault and 50% the pharmacy’s. Just to be clear, I’m fine and no harm done. When I took the medicine in and explained the problem, they quickly refilled it correctly. I know they are slammed with panicked, and in some cases, irrational and demanding people. Yet they are still working hard and handling things professionally.
  3. I refuse to engage in the white noise going on with the self-appointed experts on social media. We just trying to keep ourselves healthy, and we do small things to help others since neither Wizard or I have any medical and otherwise essential skills. But we can shop for high-risk relatives, take them to medically necessary appointments, little stuff like that. And each day, I try to find one person who was targeted by an idiot and say something positive in the comments to counterbalance cruel and stupid trolls out there. It’s not much but it makes me feeling like I’m doing something, as opposed to nothing.
  4. So far, I’ve resisted baking, but I will be making chocolate chips cookies soon, like possibly even today.
  5. Yesterday I called my doctor’s office. I’m NOT sick. However, I’ve been watching a very small skin lesion, and decided I’d better check with my doctor before I let this go too long. The office was incredibly fast and organized, I called about 8:30 am and they schedule a tele-visit at 10:40 am. My doctor called way earlier than my assigned time because he’s the type to just get things done, LOL! Once I explained, he switched to a video conference. After seeing the small lesion, he determined the best course of action is to come in and have it frozen off rather than wait and see. So I’m going in this morning. I am very impressed with how well they handled this, even assuring me that they were seeing few patients and taking all precautions in relationship to Covid-19. I wasn’t even worried to begin with :-) I’m also not worried about this small spot, I’m just being proactive so it doesn’t become something to worry about.

So that’s a few things about my week. Now I’d love to hear your five random things!

Stay safe and well, and have a nice weekend.

I’m kind of derpy this morning. Yay for a good Costco trip. Boo for mixed up meds. Good for you not engaging – ‘conflict serves no purpose’ is part of my mantra these days. Why resist baking? All the cool kids are doing it ;o). Good luck with your lesion freeze. :hugs:

    1) I’m baking chocolate chip cookies right now. Later, oatmeal cookies. Ran out of cookies, can ya tell?
    2) Ohhhmmmm. Ohm. Ohhhhm. Ohm. I’d sit in the lotus position if my legs worked that way.
    3) The last couple times I went out fishing, I got to watch ospreys. I love how they hover over the river and then dive in to catch fish. I’m such a bird nerd.
    4) Since it’s warming up, the grain bugs have been coming out of the cracks and crevices. They’re harmless, but annoying.
    5) I decided to re-read Anne Rice’s The Mummy (or Ramses the Damned) this week. It’s like a chicken-soup book for me. It’s the best thing she ever wrote, in my opinion. Romance, mystery, danger, paranormal stuffs. Woohoo.

Yikes and whew on the med stuffs. Trolls just piss me the hell off so yay on saying something positive. Why do people have to be so mean and stupid? Yeah, yeah, rhetorical question. Yay for cookies. Me?

    1) It snowed earlier in the week. SNOWED, people?!?!

    2) I’ve gained almost five pounds. I’m not stress eating, it’s that LG keeps buying bags of chocolate peanut clusters and those suckers are my Kryptonite! No, no, bad LG!

    3) Loki likes LG best. Long story but I’m okay with it. I’m not upset. Really. I’m not. But the next feral I resuce is all mine. Mine, I say!!!

    4) If I get 500-1000 words written a week, I’m happy. Sort of. I also got a wild hair to dig out an old suspense and offering it as a free read on my site. Yeah…between the formatting and stuffs, that may take awhile. There’s no way I could update it and publish it as a contemporary. (It was written 25 years ago and the technology has exploded since!) I’m still piddling with it and will eventually put it up for fun.

    5) Friday is trash day. I put the trash can out Wednesday night. I was convinced that Thursday was Friday. Until like noon when I realized that no trash truck in the neighborhood. I actually had to look at the calendar to check the day rather than the date. Not sure if that’s a solitary writer thing or a quarantine thing. I’m not braining these days. 🤣

Just remember, we’re all #AloneTogether 🥰 and with maybe a light at the end of the tunnel that isn’t the Covid Train so that life in some parts of the world can get back to some semblance of normal. Have a good weekend and send cookies! 😋

    1. Wow, glad you did well at Costco. I haven’t been though youngest has and did fair.
    2. Sorry about the meds mix up. It’s great that you were able to get it fixed so swiftly.
    3. People are just mean.
    4. Good for you! I haven’t done any baking yet either.
    5. Sure hope all went well at the doctors.

1a. Thursday early morning it started to snow, 3+ inches later it stopped. Most melted by nightfall. Today it’s snowing again. We’re to get 2-4 inches.
2a. Harrison’s mom made them masks but not us :(. Harrison looks so serious in a photo wearing his.
3a. We may get limited freedom come May 1st. I sure hope so. Even though I really never go anywhere, being told I have to stay home bugs me. I want to go shopping and I HATE shopping ;).
4a. I have composted my entire life. I’ve always used an old milk carton lined in a plastic bag. After 50+++++ years I want to get a real kitchen bin and stop using plastic. Been looking into them and they are crazy priced. Will keep looking.
5a. Your Monday post has given me the idea to break out a good bottle of wine. I may drink more than 1 glass too :).

    Have a wonderful weekend!

B.E., I’m resisting baking only because I literally won’t have any pants if I gain another pound :-)

    1) Sounds so good!
    2) Definitely no lotus position for you! Pretty sure your hip would not appreciate it.
    3) Birds are pretty cool, so I understand. I love watching them swoop down into our pool to get bugs or water.
    4) These days I’m have worried about a locust infestation :-)
    5) I wonder if I’ve read that? I read her Interview with the Vampire, of course. Enjoy your reread!

    Have a good weekend!

Silver, the meds stuff was only scary-ish when I realized what could have happened. But it took a lot of really random things to go wrong for that to happen, and ultimately *I* was the one who didn’t check when I picked up the refill. I always check because I have two different strengths; one of which is to handle sudden flareups. Which is all way more than you wanted to know so lets move on to you!

    1) Snow in April is crazy! Here is So Cal we have snow in our mountains which would be awesome for skiers and snowboarders if we weren’t all grounded :-(
    2) Ugh! LG is being so sweet, and causing those sneaky pounds to creep on. I got on the scale at the doctor’s office today and did my best to ignore the lies. That scale lies just like my tight pants are lying.
    3) SNORT!! Nope, you’re not jealous at all. It’s pretty cute that Loki luuuvvvvs LG. Don’t be mad at me though, cause I know you’re catch a feral who will love you best :-)
    4) Oh man, I know how those great ideas end up costing us way more in time that we truly have. But if you’re passionate about doing it, then go for it! I’m not beating myself up about writing, we have enough to worry about.
    5) I thought Wednesday was Friday too! The only reason I realized the day was because we had an appointment (the kind we can keep during quarantine.) I suspect it’s just a combination of stress and maybe not doing things on our normal schedules. Btu writers do it too, so maybe I’m wrong.

I’m all for safely and thoughtfully reopening where we can! And yes, we’ll get through this. Have a nice weekend.

Viki, everything was fine at docs, thanks. The lesion is frozen into submission :-)

    1) Like I told Silver, it’s just weird!
    2) I wish she could make you guys masks too :-( And that’s cute that Harrison looks so serious, LOL! I know Special K has a mask for Turbo, but I don’t know if they can get him to wear it.
    3) I hope you can safely get out some come May 1st.
    4) Doesn’t it figure that a composting bin that’s good for the environment would be expensive? Sigh. Hope you can find one that fits your budget and needs.
    5) By all means, break out the good wine! Why not? We’re trying to do our part to help the public health crises, so why not reward ourselves?

    Enjoy your weekend!
