Friday Five

TGIF! Time to share five random things about our week. Here’s mine:

  1. Hoping to wash the gray out of my hair, and get my bangs out of my eyes, today. I have a friend willing to give it a try :-)  Hair salons are still closed here so I’m improvising. The order of opening things here is frustrating at times; I mean sure, let’s open beaches and casinos where crowd control is difficult at best, but keep hair salons where it’d be much easier to control the number of people inside at any give time, closed. Totally logical. Wait did that sound sarcastic? For the record, I’m totally team scientist AND wanting to support small businesses in any way we can during this pandemic.
  2. I think I’m going to make some chocolate brownie cookies today because we’re going to see Turbo tomorrow. And then Sunday, I might make Youngest son his special cookies just because he appreciates them so much (or at least makes me feel like he does).
  3. I got some writing done this week! I’m actually getting scenes in my head down on the page. This draft will be long, but it’s a fixable. I’m thrilled, while at the same time, afraid to say too much and jinx it.
  4. Am I the only one who does this? When I find something, like say a shirt, that fits me, I buy several in different colors. I don’t do that with more expensive clothes, but for my everyday jeans or shorts and t-shirts, that’s what I do.
  5. I made shredded beef enchiladas for dinner last night. Here they are before I baked them.

That’s my five, now I’d love to hear yours! I hope everyone has a great weekend!

Good luck with the hair improvising! Why, yes, it seems totally logical. All of this does. Totally. Yay, cookies! Yay, writing! Nope, you’re not the only one. Ooo, those look like they’re going to be yummy!

    1) The other day I cut my hair and hated it, so I re-cut it yesterday. It looks much better now. I think the problem was I was too lazy to layer last time, so I ended up with this weird bob-thing. That’s what I get for being lazy.
    2) I’m thinking of making a coffee cake this morning. I have a recipe that uses boxed cake mix, so no big hoopla there. The question is how early can I run the mixer without disturbing the Night Owl who just went to bed? Will disturbing her be worth it when she sees we have coffee cake?
    3) Our bank opened its lobby back up again, which means I got to see my BFF again. It was nice to just sit and chat in her office for the first time in weeks.
    4) Yes, she’s my best in-person friend and we only see each other in the bank. We often talk about getting together outside the bank, but she’s busy during the times I’m out and about, so we see each other at the bank. It works for us. No hugs yet, though. =o(
    5) I heard a loon out at the lake the other day. Loons are only here during migration, so it was pretty cool. I love migration times. We get so many interesting feathered visitors here. =o)

Okay, what B.E. said. Yup. Yup. Yup. Yup. And yup. I’ll have to dig today because…long, boring week.

    1. LG is slowly “cleaning out” the garage. He keeps wanting to dump stuff in the dumpster at the Post. I tell him to put it on the curb. That included a huge box of wire hangers (when he went to the office and court, his shirts went to the cleaners to be starched). So far, “scavengers” have snagged everything put out. Yay! I’m all about recycling. 🥰

    2. Making progress–slow, but progress–on BETRAYAL. New words are always a plus! And I get to visit with Hannah and she’s one of my fave characters. 🖥

    3. Our weather is funky–from record lows at the first of the week to hot and humid and storms at the end. Plays havoc with my knee and wrist. Ugh. Ice packs are my friends. 🌩

    4. I need to cut my hair today. I’m tempted to just get out the clippers, put on the longest “guard” and go to town. Tempted but probably won’t. Then again, it’s not like my hair doesn’t grow out fast… 🤔

    5. I may have to buy a pastry bag. I don’t think my cookie press will work but I might try it first. I featured a recipe for easy donuts on my blog this week: canned buttermilk biscuits fried and then filled with vanilla pudding and dipped in chocolate. Bavarian creme donuts are my favorites. I need a pastry bag to fill them. Too bad Mother’s Day is already over. Maybe I’ll get LG one for Father’s Day! 🍩 🤣

    Have a great weekend, everyone!

    1. I hope your friend did a nice job with your hair :).
    2. Yum – cookies! Have a wonderful time with Turbo!
    3. Good job on writing.
    4. I always buy multiples when I find something that fits right :), so you are not alone.
    5. Your dinner last night looks delicious!

1a. We got the riot act text to us from Harrison’s parents. They are scared and have not left their house in months and they can’t get over us going out to the store or the doctor. Oh well. Hopefully there will be a vaccine soon and they get it!
2a. It’s in the mid 70’s but raining. Most people around us are having thunder storms but not us.
3a. Today youngest turns 28 and tomorrow hubs 68. Middle, DIL, and new grand pup are coming over for a cookout :). We cannot tell eldest or we will get another earful.
4a. My allergies are the worst today. I feel like I did when I was a kid and wanted to rub my nose all over my face ;).
5a. We’re going to pick up Lebanese tonight for dinner :).

Have a wonderful weekend and enjoy the little guy :).

    B.E., thanks on all :-)

    1) Wow you’re a lot more handy with scissors than I am. I did not even attempt to cut my hair.
    2) So how early did you use the mixer? Of course coffee cake is worth it!
    3) Yay for seeing friends! Loneliness is a real thing. I mean I know you’re with your hubby and kid, but we need human connections outside of those we live with.
    4) Yep, I totally understand. I’m like that with my hairdresser. We’ve known each other over 30 years and been through kids and grandkids. we’ve talked about getting together outside of appts, it just doesn’t seem to happen. And no hugs is my motto right now, except with Turbo because I’m weak.
    5) It’s pretty cool that you can identifies different birds by their sounds. I can do a few but nothing like you!

Hope you enjoy your coffeecake and weekend!

Silver, a boring week is better than a week where things go wrong. We’ll take it :-)

    1) Recycling! Hey it works and why not? But what are people doing with the wire hangers?
    2) Its fun to revisit favorite characters. And progress rocks!
    3) Oh, I’m sorry weather induced pain. Humidity messes with my joints, so I get it. Right now, I have on and off allergies that are tiresome, but better than dealing with pain.
    4) So…did you use the clippers????? Don’t leave me in suspense!
    5) Too bad we don’t live closer, you could use my tips with my disposable pastry bags :-( The donuts sound yummy, Wizard would love those! And I’m sure LG would be thrilled to get a pastry bag for Father’s Day, LOL!

Hope you guys have a good weekend!

Viki, my friend did exactly what I wanted…especially since she’s also my hair stylist :-) Like I told BE, we’ve been friends a really, really long time. She has plans in place to keep her customers as safe as possible when she’s allowed to open again.

    1) I’m sorry about the riot act text. Do you think they are just worried about you? This pandemic is really pushing emotional buttons all over the place. Whatever the reason, I wish maybe your son had just called and talked to you. Texts can feel cold and removed rather than caring.
    2) Hope the weather isn’t aggravating your joints.
    3) Happy Birthday to Youngest and your Hubs!!! I hope you guys have a great time at the BBQ. I still maintain that expanding our isolation to safely (reasonable precautions) include family is emotionally important at this point.
    4) Allergies are awful! I’m sorry :-( When my middle was a kid, he had allergies and used to tell me he wished he could take his nose off and rise it out in the sink. I cracked up.
    5) Enjoy your dinner!

Have a great weekend and a fun cookout. Hope Spunk doesn’t get too jealous or annoyed by the puppy!

I didn’t end up doing the coffee cake until after noon because I got busy with other stuff. As soon as it was cool enough to eat, we got into that bad boy. So yummy. I’ll post the recipe on FB later.
