My Cookie Disaster :-)

I had this plan. I ordered special cookie cutters in the shape of construction trucks, some gel color and meringue powder for royal icing, and prayed they’d get here by Sunday as promised.

I was going to DAZZLE Turbo with my amazing decorating skills. I had a PLAN!

But, since Turbo is 2 years old and wouldn’t be picky, I also had a shortcut in mind. I’d use store bought rolled sugar cookie dough. And as a bonus, it’s dairy free so my other son could also eat them. This is a win-win!

So all my stuff showed up on time, and I got started. I preheated the oven, put parchment paper on my cookies sheets, got out my flour, rolling pin and the cookies cutters. The cookies looked great going into the oven…

…and they came out of the oven as big, flat blobs. The store bought dough spread while baking into…ugly blobs.

Oops. I hadn’t even considered how store bought dough might spread.  LOLOL I’m sorry I didn’t take a picture, they were really sad looking. I spent more time trying to turn the blobs into chocolate dipped cookies…but the chocolate I’d ordered was the wrong stuff–some organic mystery chocolate that would not set up (harden).  I tossed the whole mess, and in the morning, ran to the store and picked up a bakery box of cookies. Problem solved.  Even better, my daughter- in-law brought some cookies she made, and those were perfect so it was all good.

The day with Turbo and family was a blast. Turbo is getting really comfortable in the pool. Fortunately, we’re all on the same page about pool safety with a toddler.  Oh, and I bought Turbo some pool toys, including these little water guns. Wizard said he wouldn’t be able to do it, HA!! Turbo loved shooting water at his dad and Grandpa. I have him on video saying, “Grandpa come here.” Then shooting him and laughing.  Turbo and Grandpa are so amazing together.

Of course, also on video are my two sons jumping into the pool and soaking me, then laughing maniacally.  I hadn’t gone underwater just because I had my contacts in, but I knew I’d end up soaked. And I may have started it by shooting them with the water guns :-)

Life has taught me to not sweat little things like cookies not turning out. I’ll make the special cookies another time. Being in the moment with those we love is the most important thing.

So how’re things going with you?

Gah. I’m sorry your special cookies didn’t turn out, but yay for handling it well. You’re absolutely right to not sweat the little things. So many things are little and so many people spend too much time focused on them. I’m glad you had a good day with your family.

Things here are good. Same same and pretty much business as usual. I saw an announcement that my favorite thrift store will be opening for limited business soon. I’ve been jones’n for used paperbacks and for the hunt. Besides, I’d like to take Owl there and let her hunt for stuffs. A mother-daughter thrift spree. So much fun.

What an amazing day! Despite the cookie fiasco. But now you know. Turbo is too cute and there’s so much love in your family it leaps off the screen when I read your posts about them. 💖 💖 💖

Like B.E., things are same ol’ same ol’ around here. We’re healthy. School is officially out so Stormy and Baseball Boy are getting lots of bonding time because Only is back in the office most of the time.

I’m almost done with edits, though still waiting on the cover. I need to nudge Only again, but haven’t because she’s back in the office most of the time.

Not much else going on in my world. I’m ready for life to start up again. Our curve has flattened and hasn’t really spiked during the partial reopening. Yes, I’m still following the daily health department updates and doing my own statistical analysis.

On that note, time to finish up on the intrawebz and get back to work. Make a good memory today, everyone!

Sorry about the cookies. As I recall, store dough has to be right out of the refrigerator into the oven. But that’s all I can think of that would cause the spread. Good job stopping at the bakery.

I can picture Turbo laughing and squirting Grandpa. I bet they had a great time.

It’s funny, 17 days ago we had snow. Yesterday it was 92F and super humid. Just nuts.

Monday we went to window talk with Harrison. It was 91F and super sunny. They were in the house over an air conditioning vent while we stood outside for a 1/2 hr getting sunburn. We left after 1/2 an hour because Harrison just started to cry. He thought we were finally going to come in and play. He never made a sound, just massive tears running down his face. Broke our hearts.

We’re going to watch the Dragon launch soon, are you?

    Have a great afternoon.

B.E., they were just cookies, so shrug. I’m looking forward to doing them just for fun.

Yay for your thrift shop opening, and of course you have to take your kid there. It will be nice to get some normalcy back in our lives (with precautions). I hope you guys get to do it soon!

Silver, aw thanks. We’re just a normal (ha what’s normal???) family, I think.

That’s great for Stormy to have some special dad time! I bet Only misses out though :-)

Hope Only can get to your cover soon.

I follow three sets of statistic because I like the cold numbers better than…all the rest, except for experienced epidemiologist and virologists who study viruses. Oh and doctors on the front lines because I’m occassionally a medicine geek :-) Aside from that yammering, I’m glad you’re staying informed and making your decisions base on that rather than feelings or politics.

Hope you got a lot done today! Not sure if I’m making memories, but I finally got deep back into writing so I’ll take it.

Viki, the day was hot and I hadn’t turned on the air, so that didn’t help. I tried getting the dough cold after I cut it, but it only helped a little. But it really wasn’t a big deal, I’ll make them another time.

Wow that’s some crazy weather swings!

Poor Harrison, he just wants to play with Grandma and Grandpa. I’m a little sad for him, but I respect his parents wanting to keep his safe. It must be so hard on you both :-(

As you saw by now, the space launch was postpone for weather. Bummer, but of course, better safe than sorry. I was just listening and writing, but Wizard was super disappointed.

    I hope you’re having a good week!
