Friday Five
So…it’s Friday right? Okay, then it’s time to share five random things about our weeks. Here’s my randomly weird five:
- We had a lovely Thanksgiving with two of our sons, their wives and Turbo. One son had a possible second-hand exposure to Covid, and on Wednesday he called me to discuss it. He flat out told me that he worried about exposing me or his dad. My first reaction was all mom, and I said, “I’ll risk it.” My son grew frustrated and said he wouldn’t risk me or his dad if he could help it. All I could think then was, Well this is how I raised him, so I’d better damn well appreciate and respect the man he’s grown into. We missed them, but we video-called them, and will see them as soon as they get the all clear, probably in a day or two.
- Will anyone be out in the stores shopping on Black Friday? I’ve rarely ever gone out on Black Friday, but I feel for all the businesses this year and hope they can find a way to survive. Wizard and I support them where we can.
- I heard a phrase on a podcast a week ago that has stuck with me. It’s “perfectionism leads to procrastination,” and for me, it’s so true. Being a perfectionist is demanding the impossible from ourselves, and that leads us to freeze up and procrastinate.
- I’ve been making notes in a notebook on writing, business, marketing and motivation. I began typing and organizing those into some files and Whoa, I was surprised how much I had. I still have a lot more to information to get into my files.
- As I’m writing this blog on Thursday night, it’s very windy and my Internet connection is spotty. Hopefully I’ll get this posted.
That’s my five, now I’d love to hear yours! I hope everyone has a healthy and fun weekend.

I’m sorry one of your sons couldn’t make it for Thanksgiving. Fingers crossed his possible exposure doesn’t turn into him or his wife getting it. No Black Friday shopping here. Yep, perfectionism can be a problem… not my problem, but still a problem. Yay for having notes and getting organized! Yay for your blog posting! I miss you when you’re gone.
1) My writing problem right now is twofold – I have too many stories wanting to be told and I can’t seem to settle on one, and I’m in the ‘my books aren’t selling, so why bother’ place again.
2) Hubs made another awesome turkey this year. We have pounds of it left, but I froze a lot of it, so we’ll have turkey for a long time to come.
3) Mom and middle sis will be hitting the stores today. Not all stressy ‘Black Friday’ like, but some nice shopping for them. It’s a family tradition for all the girls to go. I blew that when I left the state. There’s an outside chance big sis will show up for it, but it’s iffy. Stupid ‘rona.
4) We watched Armageddon again last night. I love that movie. It was part of the reason I wrote my first book.
5) One of these days I need to put on the gloves and the waders and tackle that first book again. I still love it. It could be made publishable. Maybe. There’s always hope.

Ditto what BE said and that quote is so totally spot on for so many of us! I NEVER do the Black Friday thing. In fact, I lay in supplies so I don’t have to deal with the madness until at least the following Monday. My five…(as I try to think of five…
1. I hit 50K back on the 23 so I technically “won” NaNoWriMo. I’m currently just shy of 56K and nearing on the end. There was some drama in the series group and the squeaky wheel decided to pull out. That necessitated some changes for the rest of us–all to the good but means a few extra scenes. I’ll still get the book uploaded by Monday.
2. BeeGee and Smudge disappeared for a day or two. All the usual ferals are present and accounted for.
3. Thanksgiving was ridiculously easy. I got a Butterball freezer-to-oven bone-in turkey breast that was done in 3 hours. Fresh Texas toast for sandwiches, pickles and olives, and small pumpkin and pecan pies. Just leftover pie. The kids kept munching on the sliced turkey. Next time I’m at the store, I plan on grabbing a smaller one to do for LG and me. Everything was on paper plates and all I had to clean up was some utensils and two cutting boards.
4. Weather has turned seasonable. While not a fan of the heater being on, I do like the crisp temps outside, along with the blue skies.
5. Zeus, the ghost dog, has wandered by a time or two but we seem to have fixed the fence so he can’t get in. I wish his humans were smarter because he’s a good dog just needs a pack.
Mostly boring but at this stage of things, that’s not necessarily a bad thing. Have a great weekend! 🥰

1. I’m glad you had a nice Thanksgiving. I understand your son not wanting to possibly expose you guys to Covid. They love us.
2. I have never shopped on Black Friday.
3. Can see how that statement is true of many people.
4. You’ve been working your butt off. It’s kind of fun how you have shocked yourself with all your files. You work hard!
5. I hope the wind didn’t take out y our power and your internet stayed up and running.
1a. It’s a slow day here – I super tired. I was non-stop yesterday from 12am on.
2a. Hubs wanted to put up the tree today and I said no – he’s pouting.
3a. Spunk is bummed – he wanted the tree early too ;).
4a. Leftovers tonight – yum! I love Thanksgiving food :).
5a. I have to get buying presents tomorrow online. I am SO far behind.
Have a fantastic weekend!

B.E., thank you for missing me when I’m gone! And the rest…I never think of myself as a projectionist because I’m so mistake prone, but I get that I put a lot of pressure on myself with the first draft, which causes me to get nothing done. I hope that made sense.
1) You already know all the reasons why the book market is so depressed and it’s beyond hard to get noticed. I’m sorry it’s bringing you down. My only suggestions is to write for yourself right now. And we all have to hope things will get better.
2) Your hubs came through again!
3) Even though you’re not big I’m shopping, I’m sure you miss the tradition with your mom and sister. I would. But hope they had fun.
4) Nothing like watching a favorite movie.
5) Maybe your first book is the one calling to your passion right now?
Hope you have a good weekend!

Silver, I was oddly restless today and wanted to go out, but I didn’t.
1) I’m sorry for the Nano Drama. It’s totally ridiculous when the whole point of Nano is to focus only on writing and NOT let everything else distract you. But congrats on technically winning! And even more amazing is how fast you can get it published!
2) I’m glad BeeGee and Smudge reappeared.
3) What a great day! I love when I find shortcuts that simplify things.
4) It’s nice when the weather checks in with the calendar.
5) I so agree with you on ghost dog’s human.
You’re never boring! Enjoy your weekend!

Viki, our power stayed on :-). Thanks but I have a lot more to do. I’m building files to use later but I’m still working all that out.
1) You did a lot of prep and cooking for Thanksgiving. I hope you rested today. I’m trying to rest myself.
2) Wizard and I disagreed about the tree too. I wanted to do it today (it was on my schedule!! LOL) and he had a fit because he can’t help me. His back is improving, but I still won’t let him lift…and he won that battle
3) Aw, I don’t like thinking of Spunk being sad.
4) I envy your leftovers!
5) I’m sure it’s stressing you out to feel behind on shopping. But I think you’ll be fine if you order stuff in the next week or so. But I know how you feel when it’s hanging over you, especially when you aren’t sure what to get people.
I really hope you rested up today!

The book won’t release until February. The author/publisher wanted the series done so they could go on preorder. I think all but one of us will done by the deadline of the 30th. The five of us left are so relieved that the squeaky wheel is gone that it made things all better. We’re currently waiting on updated covers to reflect the change so…anyway. This one will be “put to bed” and I can get started on the next.
