Friday Five

TGIF! And we’re leaping right into sharing 5 random things about our week:

  1. I’m focused on writing at least a part of the day. Hoping for magic :-)
  2. Maggie is loving the nicer weather and lizard hunting. But allergies (I think) are causing her to lick and annoy her carpal pad (I think that’s what it’s called, it’s the pad around her the “ankle” area of her paw). I’ve given her Benadryl once and it helped calm the licking, but I’m not excited about drugging her more than necessary.
  3. I’m still doing bands and yoga practice. I began with twice a week, barely doing anything and slowly working up. I’m up to three times a week, and doing about 4o minutes to an hour of work. My yoga practice is beginner level at best, but I enjoy it and I’m hoping my hands, wrists and neck can tolerate it.
  4. A friend of mine had major surgery this week. She’s on my mind pretty much constantly.
  5. It’s going to be a Turbo weekend! Turbo is coming Sunday and spending the night so his parents can have a night away from home to celebrate my son’s birthday. If all goes well, Turbo and I will make cupcakes for his dad’s birthday. I didn’t ask his dad what kind of cupcakes he wants, instead we’re making the kind I think Turbo wants, LOL! But CPA Boy won’t care–if his son makes him cupcakes, he will love them.

That’s it for me, now I’d love to hear 5 random things about your week! Have a great weekend!

Yay for your commitment to writing! Aww, poor Maggie. Check with your vet. I think there are things you can give her or put on the area to help prevent licking. (I can’t remember what I did for my dog when she was over-licking.) Yay for your yoga! I hope it helps. Positive thoughts for your friend and hugs for you. Yay for Turbo time! And Happy Birthday to CPA Boy!

    1) I finally have all my books available in paperback form. It wasn’t hard. Just tedious.
    2) I created a recipe for Chocolate Walnut Upside Down Cake, by riffing off my chocolate oil cake and my pineapple upside down cake recipes (using walnuts instead of pineapple). It’s pretty good, if I do say so myself.
    3) You already saw on FB where I did the ‘fall down go boom’ thing. The knee is still bending pretty good. I did find two bruises and a scratch that makes sitting kinda interesting, though. Once a year I fall, so this had better be it for 2021.
    4) We apparently have a smart mouse in the garage. This morning, it snapped two traps and didn’t get caught. I’m torn between leaving it alone because it’s so smart and devising a better way to catch the little bugger.
    5) My container garden is doing really well. I’m going to be up to my armpits in tomatoes and zucchini at least. Time will tell if the lettuce and carrots thrive.

Yay for the good stuffs, boo for the bad. Check with your vet. I use a product called Natural Care Hot Spot Itch Relief Spray. It has Tea Tree oil, Aloe Vera, and Chamomile. It works well for Boone when he gets itchy and starts chewing and licking and gets hot spots. Sending good thoughts to your friend. Yay Turbo and Happy B-day, CPA Boy! Okay, my five:

    1. Got my second vaccine. Things were fine though I woke up several times in the night with a headache. Which is weird for me. The headache, not the waking up. The next day, I was achy and the lymph glands in my neck were sore and stiff. Then I got chilled so I gave up, took 2 acetominiphen and went to sleep. Woke up feeling fine, fixed dinner, cleaned up, watched TV, went to bed, slept through–and late! S’all good. 😴

    2. I have a pretty new kitchen faucet. The old one started leaking. It got worse. I had a huge stainless bowl under the sink I had to empty about every four days, had duct tape around the base of the faucent to help direct water to the sinks, but still had to put sponges behind it or I had water running across my counters. We bought the new one early on but LG opened it, read the instructions on how to put it together and said, “Not today.” That was like six months ago. Anyway, the BiL’s plumber finally got caught up and sent one of his guys to do it. We also got cut-off valves for both hot & cold lines, and a new pea trap because the old one looked like something out of the Mousetrap game. Pretty faucet. No leaks. I pet it when I walk by. 😍

    3. Sade is PO’d or something. Writing this week is more hit than miss. Hoping to make up for lost time today. 🐱‍💻

    4. Mother Nature is drunk. She needs to go home. Except we REALLY need the rain so I’m not saying a whole lot. Still, it’s mid-April and we have highs in the 50s, 60s if we’re lucky, and low 40s for lows. Next week, there’s a possibility of snow. SNOW! I’m not kidding!!! I don’t remember running the heater so late in the spring. Gah! At least I’m not paying for AC. LOLOL 🥶

    5. As you know, I got “disabled” by FB (their term, not mine) and thrown into FB jail. Then told that my review might not be reviewed because they were short on staff. Then after a couple of days, I got an email basically saying, “Yay! You’re back! Aren’t you happy and grateful we discovered you aren’t some radical serial killer terrorist hater person! And golly, sorry for any inconvenience.” I’m not kidding. That’s basically the gist of the email. I’m tempted to print it out on fancy paper and frame it. 🤦🏼‍♀️

On that note, that’s my five and I’m off for laundry duty and mayhaps writing. Also, more coffee. Have a great weekend, everyone! 🥰

    1. Glad you are able to get writing time in every day. That must feel great.
    2. Poor Maggie. Allergies in a pet are even worse than in humans since they can’t complain. I hear you on the drugs but I know you’ll keep her comfortable.
    3. Yoga and bands sound like they are good. I hope your neck holds up to them too.
    4. Sorry about your friend, hope they recover swiftly.
    5. Turbo weekend!!!!!!! Cupcakes are always a winner. You three will have tons of fun.

1a. Second shot did not go well. I had every possible yucky side effect. Was wrapped in a blanket all day yesterday shivering, nauseated, headache, body aches, you name it.
2a. To top it off, at midnight last night I lost my balance in the bathroom and crashed onto the tile floor. I am bruised and really hurt my wrist.
3a. Second topper, the furnace decided to quit again.
4a. Looks like my McAfee isn’t working. It won’t update even when I try to force it.
5a. On the positive side, looks like we may FINALLY meet youngest’s girlfriend. We’re going to have dinner at this nice little place out our way that we know is safe.

    Have a really fun weekend!

B.E., Maggie’s going in for her dental cleaning and urine recheck on the 28th. So I’m trying to manage it until then unless she’s uncomfortable. Right now, the licking is worrying me more than her, LOL.

    1) Yay!
    2) Congrats on creating an awesome recipe! I’d may even try it one day. It sounds so good and not the same old chocolate recipes I always make.
    3) I cringed so hard when I saw your fall-post. Since I remember the surgeon had a very hard time breaking BLBs scar tissue (and was so proud he took pictures that I can’t get out of my head, LOL) I was worried about how much it hurt when you fell and did whatever you did to your leg. I literally shuddered for you. Hope it’s not aching too much. On the upside, you got something out of the fall!
    4) Kudos to the mouse, but I feel for you being caught between leaving it alone and building a better mouse trap. I’m officially no help.
    5) I see zucchini bread, muffins and other treats in your future! Congrats on thriving plants!

Hope you have a great weekend!

Silver, I looked up the product you mentioned, but I’d definitely ask Maggie’s vet first because she’s so reactive. But it’s good to know. I’m watching the area twice a day, even though she tries to hide it from me. Seriously. she tucks that leg until her body until I say, “Maggie, show me.” And then she sighs and lets me look.

    1) Glad you only had the one day and that you took the acetaminophen and slept–that was the best thing to do.
    2) I remember your faucet story and waiting for LG to do it. I bet you’re thrilled to have it all done and no more leak type headaches! Awesome! A leaky, not working right faucet is like a sore tooth that constantly irritates us. Getting if fixed is such a huge relief!
    3) No Sade! No temper tantrums or sulking, get back to work telling Silver your story!
    4) I’m just shaking my head that the weather in your area. I can’t imagine getting snow mid-April. Mother Nature needs to detox or something.
    5) That’s exactly how it happened for others in my groups. I don’t know what to say. It’s like the weather–FB is drunk. I’m just glad you’re back and hope you don’t have any more problems.

    Enjoy your weekend!

Viki, I’m surprised I’ve gotten this far with bands and yoga. I have mild muscle soreness now and again, but it improves quickly, when means I’m handling it. I’ll take that. And my neck is only mildly annoyed, as long as I can sleep, I’m okay with it.

    1) Ugh, not fun. I really hope you’re feeling better now.
    2) Bathroom falls are scary. Did you have your wrist looked at? I hope nothing is broken or torn.
    3) Seriously???? I’m so sorry and hope someone can come out ASAP.
    4) Wow you’re not having a good week. MacAfee irritates me a lot but it’s not causing me disruptions. Sorry :-(
    5) That’s great that you get to meet her! Hope you guys have a nice dinner together!

I really hope your weekend is a huge improvement from your week!

Thanks for your concern, Jenn. Sorry I made you shudder. Actually, the leg doesn’t hurt at all from the fall. I actually walked a mile the next day. And it’s still bending good. Like I said, happy accident. :hugs:

B.E, I’m glad to hear you’re not in pain and the knee is still working at the new and improved level :-)
