Friday Five

TGIF! It’s time to share five random things about our week.  But first, for all of you in the bad weather areas, I hope your okay, have power and no significant weather related issues.

  1. Last weekend, I was cleaning before BLB and his wife came over, and since it was so warm here, I decided to wash the outside table and chairs. I took the chairs over to one of our deck drains, which put me between the pool, the back fence and the side hill. I rinsed the chairs and set the hose down to scrub them with soap. Except…the hose rolled to the nozzle handle and locked on. Water sprayed an endless gusher, soaking me. The hilarious thing is because the nozzle locked on and I was basically in a corner, I couldn’t do anything except dive into the spray, grab the handle and finally wrench the pin locking it off. Then I laughed, because this so my life, LOL! It wasn’t a big deal though, I didn’t have my cell phone or watch on me so nothing was damaged. Wizard came outside to ask me something, saw me dripping water and burst into laughter. I never did find out what he wanted to ask me :-)
  2. My knees have been bugging me this year off and on. I’m annoyed by this. It’s not bad and perfectly manageable right now, but I know it’s a sign of age  and that’s just insulting.
  3. In California, if you buy a new house, you must also buy or lease a minimum number of solar panels.  It’s totally out of our control, and we’re given predesignated packages by the builder and the solar company they contract with. We knew this going in to this house purchase, and we knew the exact cost (it’s in addition to the base price of the house and considered an upgrade…a forced upgrade!). We’re still pissy about it. I’m not even against solar, I’m against being forced into it, and not being able to choose which company or package I want. There’s no point to this, I’m just venting here. California, like most states, has positives and negatives.
  4. We’re drowning in house related paperwork, phone calls and emails. I know this is only the start of the process…fun times ahead :-)
  5. I’m not sure if I’m going to shoot out to see Turbo on Saturday or not, I need to check with his parents to see if they’ll be around or have plans. But I’ve been waiting to find out if Wizard is going racing or not, and he’s been waiting for a call back from our pool guy (the one we use when we need something replaced) to make a decision. If the pool guy can come out Saturday, then Wizard will stay home. This really doesn’t change my ability to go see Turbo, but I still want to know Wizard’s plans first. It doesn’t make sense, even I know that.

That’s my five, now I’d love to hear yours. I hope everyone has a safe, warm and fun weekend!

OMG, ROFL! Sorry you got wet, but you couldn’t do that again if you tried. Sorry about your knees, too. It IS insulting. Gah about the solar panel thing. And the paperwork stuffs. I hope you get out to see Turbo. And it makes sense to me.

    1) Earlier, I was hunting down videos for songs I liked and one of them made me cry. Damn it. I still like the song, and it wasn’t sad, so why did the video have to be sad? Blerg.
    2) I’ve been watching reruns of Mike and Molly. I never watched the show when it was on, so most of this is new to me. Funny stuff. Crass, but funny.
    3) I’ve also been watching reruns of Grey’s Anatomy in the morning. I’ve seen all those and yet they still suck me in. I’d be getting ready to watch it now, but Hubs fell asleep in the living room and I don’t want to wake him.
    4) My life is pretty boring. TV, editing, baking. Speaking of baking, I made oatmeal jam bars yesterday. Yummers.
    5) And speaking of editing, I’m past pg200 now. Only 174 pages to go. If I don’t add more pages, which keeps happening. Fantasy – it’s huge and it’s intricate, man.

What B.E. said! There’s no way I could live where you live but that’s where your family is, so I get it. Good luck with everything! My five:

    1. So…plumbing. Last week, we had the outdoor plumbers to fix and outside line. Monday, the indoor plumber arrived to replace the toilet in the half bath we don’t often use but it’s on a different outside line so an awesome backup when the main line stops up. The install went perfect. And then he flushed it a couple of times. Yeah. He goes outside and there is signs of water coming up in the sandy loom soil. So he has to rooter that line. Yeah, doubled that bill. But hey! The plumbing works!

    2. Have to brag on Only. She’s listed as “Production Assistant and Photography” on the latest song release from Hanson. Yes, the MmmBop brothers. They’re all grown up and her company did the music video. She also did the behind-the-scenes photographs for Austin John Winkler, former lead singer for the rock band Hinder. The projects have all been secret until this week when they released! So proud of her!

    3. The storm blew through here with little effect but for some much needed rain, a dusting of snow, some wind, and cold! 🥶 The northern part of the state had ground blizzard conditions and lots of snow. We got off lucky! Warmer today and over the weekend before another winter storm comes through mid-week.

    4. Since it was cold yesterday, I made beef stew and cornbread. It was pretty darn yummy! LG calls it my Scarborough Fair Soup because I use parsley, sage, rosemary, and thyme as seasonings, with a little Worchestshire sauce, beef broth, and salt. Along with stew meat, veggies, potatoes, and tomato sauce. And Jiffy brand cornbread.

    5. Today is softball! My OSU Cowgirls are playing in the St. Pete Clearwater Elite Invitational Tournament. They play at 9 (my time) this morning on ESPNU and then this afternoon on ESPN+, which I can now watch from the comfort of my bed! So, softball and work this morning and then feet-up snuggle with Jake this afternoon. Dinner will take care of itself. LOL

Have a great weekend all! Do something you love. Me? It’s watching college softball! 🥰

    1. Oh my heaven! You had me laughing very early this morning. Poor Spunk thought I was having a medical emergency :). I could just see you getting soaked by that nasty hose.
    2. Copper infuse knee braces really help with our aching knees. It is rather insulting that we are getting older :(.
    3. That would have me SO ticked off about the solar panels. I really HATE being forced to do crap.
    4. I feel for you guys with the house paperwork. It is a pain, especially when so much of it is the same but for different places so you have to fill out their forms.
    5. I hope you get to see Turbo. He can really brighten a weekend :).

1a. Well, it was 58Fand rainy yesterday and then the temp dropped like a lead weight. The freezing rain began and then the snow. Oh did I mention the 45mph winds too? This is why people get sick in the spring.
2a. Poor hubs doesn’t get to see Harrison until next Friday. They are on their way to Nashville for 4 days.
3a. With all the rain, the sump pump has been going like crazy and I noticed it sounded WRONG yesterday. Hubs argued. I was right. Youngest had installed two pumps, a main and a back-up. The main is functioning correctly and the back-up doesn’t trigger until it almost overflows. He will fix things tomorrow for us.
4a. I am having so much, okay, too much fun buying girl baby items for the baby shower.
5a. I think I’m going to make triple chocolate cookies tomorrow if my arm holds up. It’s been really bad the past couple days because of too much housework and the weather.

I hope you have a great weekend!

B.E. it’s true! If I tried to set that nozzle up to do that, I’d fail. Go ahead and laugh, I did :-).

    1) I’ve had that happen with music videos. I hope it didn’t ruin the song for you.
    2) I used to like that show. Glad your enjoying it now.
    3) I also used to love Grey’s Anatomy then burned out on it when the drama overshadowed the medical part, but I think that’s because I’m weird. Do you have earphones for your TV (or any other device you were watching it on?) That way you won’t wake hubs.
    4) Oatmeal jam bars sound like a perfect breakfast! Your life isn’t boring if it’s making you happy.
    5) Amen to fantasy! It is long and intricate and the world building makes it harder to edit. Paranormal is hard enough but fantasy is the top of the mountain in my opinion. But you’re past the half way point and you’ve got this!

    Have a great weekend!

Silver, family is pretty much where my heart is. Although I watched this great video about this guy who moved from California to Texas and then had this list of truly ignorant complaints that confirmed my belief that changing locations won’t making unhappy, angry and whiny people suddenly happy :-) But the solar thing is definitely a gripe. However given all the sunshine we have, it’ll help with the electric bills in the summer. That said, the ROI takes a long time. And I’ll stop now!

    1) I’m just shaking my head at your plumbing saga. It’s why I hate anything to do with plumbing. in my experience, it’s never as easy or cheap a fix as we hope. But it’s all done now! Hopefully everything runs smoothly and you don’t have to think about plumbing for awhile.
    2) CONGRATULATIONS TO ONLY!!! How amazing for her! And definitely brag worthy! Is the music video out yet? Please let me know when it is. I’m excited to see it! And I’m so thrilled for her. I’m also cyber high-fiving you for teaching her how to go after her dreams! Your a great mom!
    3) I’m glad you guys didn’t get the blizzard like conditions. Nice that you’re getting a little warm up too. Hope the ferals found a warm spot.
    4) Scarborough Fair Soup made me laugh :-) I’d probably have butchered that song the whole time i made it. We used to love Jiffy brand cornbread, and now I’m wondering why I haven’t made it in a few years. I need to make chili and cornbread. Glad your stew warmed up your cold night!
    5) Hope you enjoyed the game! AndI love when dinner takes care of itself! Wizard’s always willing to pick up fast food for dinner, and I’m always trying to limit his fast food, LOL.

Great advice to do something we love on the weekend! I’m baking cookies today, so I’m already doing that, LOL. Enjoy your weekend!

Viki, poor Spunk :-) I looked pretty funny, and Wizard’s face was priceless. We’ve known for several years about the solar scam, uh, program, and we budgeted for it. But yep, both of us grumble about it. Especially given that solar has it’s own environment issues and infrastructure problems, but I’d rather talk about you.

    1) Sheesh that’s really crazy how the weather changes. And that wind had to be so cold! Yeah those weather swings can really mess with our immune systems.
    2) Aww, hubs will miss him so much. But Harrison should have fun.
    3) So glad Youngest can fix it for you! LOL on you being right. When our pool motor went out, Wizard and I both heard it at the exact same time. We don’t pay attention when it sounds right, but the second it’s wrong, our subconscious picks it up and sends out a mental alert, I guess. It was fixed today, so that’s good.
    4) I don’t blame you! Buying for a baby girl is just so fun. And since you and I had boys, it’s like a special treat for us. Enjoy every moment!
    5) Both house work and the weather can be really hard on our joints. But I made the dough for salted dark chocolate chunk cookies today. You and I think alike sometimes!

I really hope you have a great weekend!
