Friday Five!

TGIF! Let’s jump right into sharing 5 random things about our week.

  1. It’s been a longish week for different reasons. But all is well or will be by next week so let’s not dwell on that.
  2. We cleaned windows. We split it into two days, wanting to do an extra good job. I took the screens out front to wash them and brought Maggie out to help. Spoiler Alert: She didn’t help, she just sat and watched me work or moseyed around the grass. Maggie’s work ethic only kicks in if she’s chasing lizards or something fun like that. Otherwise, she’s a total slacker.
  3. I decided to go through a box of old letters from various friends over the years that I kept. I thought I’d toss them out, but instead I spent a couple hours reading through them all. I had to laugh at one consistent theme running through them all: Everyone kept apologizing for not writing back sooner. From what I surmised, I’d often send two letters to their one. I guess I was prolific letter writer back in the day??? It’s pretty funny given that I suck at even answering email these days. Also…I kept all the letters. I don’t know why, it just feels like a connection to old friends who moved away.
  4. My sister is in Hawaii. Someone is sulking because she’s not in Hawaii…um…Me! I’m sulking :-) My sister is visiting her daughter, and here is where I should point out that her daughter is also my niece! But did my sister take me? No. And I get called the mean sister????? (I’m teasing, I’m thrilled for my sister! I want her to have the best trip ever and enjoy every moment with her daughter!)
  5. I’m reading a YA paranormal book and at the same time listening to an audio of another paranormal book. I’m rather impressed that I’m not confusing the two stories or characters! Sometimes I impress myself. But then I find myself standing in front of an open cupboard with no idea what I was searching for…that impressed feeling never lasts long, LOL!

So that’s my five, now I’d love to hear yours! I hope all of us have the best weekend possible!

Yay for clean windows and Maggie was…supervising. Old letters are a rabbit hole but nice to refresh memories. Bad, bad, Biker Witch for not taking you, but hope she and your niece have awesome bonding time. Totally impressed on the dual books, you mulit-tasker you. I take it both are good? And bummer on the week, but yeah, the clock keeps ticking and time rolls on. Now for my five.

    1. *taps fingers idlely on keyboard* … 🤔🤔🤔 Yeah. I did a lot of that this week.

    2. We decided to splurge and get a second trash cart from the city. Normally, we fill one cart but LG decided to do some yardwork and get restarted on decluttering the garage. Not everything can go to the thrift store. It costs an extra $2.50 a month.

    3. I don’t always check the Ring doorbell footage but sometimes I do. This week we’ve had a skunk, a pair of raccoons, a possum, the usual suspects, and two “hobo” cats that passed through, ate, and haven’t returned. Since installing the cameras (front porch and eave above garage door), we’ve also “captured” two light anomolies–one a column of hazy light bars that crossed the front porch and the second a long, sort of catepillar bright orb. It wasn’t a bug. Those are easy to recognize. This shot in toward the house and was very bright., Sadly, it was during a time lapse section so the segments could have been caused by that. We intend to catch a ghost or alien eventually so we can be featured on one of the paranormal shows. 🤣

    4. Finished listening to Jeaniene Frost’s THE OTHER HALF OF THE GRAVE, a retelling of the first book in her Night Huntress series but from Bones’s POV (he’s the hero). It was interesting. Rather than continuing with that series, I jumped to her spin-off series, Night Prince, about Vlad Tepes. He’s probably my favorite of all her heroes. Currently on book 2, and will have 2 more to go after that. Then I have no clue so looking for recommendations.

    5. It hasn’t happened yet but I need a 5th entry so I’m cheating. Today is the start of the NCAA softball regionals! SOFTBALL!!!! YAYAYAYAY!!!! Both OSU and OU have regionals. Most are on ESPN+ but we have a subscription to it for this reason. Also, two of the TVs can stream the games and I can also watch on my computer. OSU plays the late game tonight. OU plays the dinner-time game. Yes, I will be watching other teams in both regionals play this afternoon. The bad thing about streaming is you can’t just “flip channels” to check out different games. Ah well. Beats the old days when they didn’t televise the sport.

That’s it for me. Forecasters say a BIG cool down on the weather this weekend and the first of next week. Yay! Honeysuckle still blooming and I’ll be able to open the window. Have a great weekend, all! 🥰

    1. I hope whatever caused the week to stretch out has been resolved and that next week runs smooth.
    2. Yay on clean windows. There is not much better ;). Not surprising that Maggie didn’t help, after all she is the supervisor.
    3. I love finding old letters like that and re-reading them. If it had been me the roles would have been reverse. I would be the one owing a letter.
    4. WOW! I hope Biker Witch is having a wonderful time in Hawaii. Can’t blame you for wishing that you were there too.
    5. That’s good that you are not mixing the stories. It’s easy to do when reading the same genre. What are the reads?

1a. Just got back from having my hair done. It feels so good. The strange thing is my new stylist thinks I have too much hair and thins it out. I’m not sure how I feel about that.
2a. Hubs just got back from TN. As soon as he got here a photo was texted of Harrison crashed on the couch. Three days of non-stop Paw Paw fun has him worn out  .
3a. Tomorrow all of us minus Harrison’s family are going out to dinner to celebrate hubs and youngest’s birthdays which were last Sunday and Monday. We’re all looking forward to a really nice time.
4a. It was supposed to go up to 90+ today but so far is only in the lower 80’s but boy has the humidity kicked in.
5a. I picked up Nancy Atherton’s new Aunt Dimity book, The Enchanted Cottage. For the first time I’m having trouble getting it going. Nancy has started it off totally different than all the others and it’s like a rehash of the first 22 books – it’s dragging. I’ll give it a little more time.

I hope you have a really great weekend!

Silver, both books are good :-) I think it helps that one is a YA so the characters aren’t as easy to confuse. And the streaming of jealous-inducing texts from Biker Witch sounds like they are having a really nice time together. Now for you:

    1) I recognize that idle tap on the keyboard — pretty sure I’ve heard that song way too many times.

    2) Wow big spender, LOL! It sounds worth the money to me.

    3) Wow I never thought about capturing ghost activity on the doorbell cam! Wouldn’t that be cool? And I can tell everyone I know you when you’re featured on the show!

    4) A hero named Vlad is almost always a winner :-) I wish I had great recs, but I’ve been hopping around too. The YA paranormal I’m reading is CRAVE by Tracy Wolfe. But it’s a boarding school for paranormals out in the middle of nowhere Alaska, and the heroine doesn’t know she’s paranormal so she’s confused. It’s pretty standard YA stuff so far, but I’m enjoying it.
    5) LOLOL! You are a super fan! But it sounds to me like you get every penny out of the subscription channel. It’s awesome that they televise the sport now!

Enjoy the cooler weather and have a great weekend!

Viki, thanks, it’s just one of those weeks, but nothing too terrible has happened and I’m always grateful for that. Today was better. One read in by Tracy Wolfe (the YA paranormal) and the other is a witch series by Danielle Garrett. It’s a 3 book series audiobook. It’s not super fast paced, but an easy series to listen to while I’m doing other things like cleaning or baking.

    1) I’ve had stylists “thin” my hair in spots now that it’s shorter. They tell me it’s more about helping the hair to hold the “shape” of the style and movement. It’s worked as far as I can tell. (unless it’s humid). Hope you like the way it works for you!

    2) Sounds like Paw Paw and Harrison had the best time together!

    3) I really hope you all have a great dinner celebrating the birthdays.

    4) Ugh, humidity! Hope it’s better over the weekend.

    5) I wonder why she’s rehashing so much in that book? She’s so experienced as a writer that surprised me. I really hope it picks up soon.

Enjoy your family dinner celebrating Hubs and Youngest’s birthdays!
