Friday Five

TGIF! June is here! I don’t know why I’m excited, LOL. Now let’s getting sharing five random things about our week. Also I’m posting this on Thursday afternoon to bypass the scheduling since it’s unreliable for me lately.

  1. Our desktop computer locked up and then when I had to force reboot it, it refused. And refused. And kept refusing…so after 7 hours of struggling with it, we went and bought a new computer. We came home…and the computer had booted up and was running. I swear it’s true. Both of us laughed :-) In any case, we knew we needed a new computer so it’s all good.
  2. I took Maggie to the vet for a routine appointment with the tech (not the actual vet). While waiting, a woman came in with two dogs and sat near us. Maggie made friends with both dogs, then when the woman held out her hand, Maggie loved her so much, she sat and leaned on her leg. While Maggie’s friendly, but this level of trust so quickly surprised me (in a good way!).
  3. Maggie also has a lump on her stomach that is likely a lipoma–a harmless fatty tumor. Both the experienced receptionist and I think the lump is a little harder than we like, so I made a vet appointment to have her check it out in a couple weeks.  I’m doing this because when Maggie had her bladder stone surgery, we discovered that she was spayed in an unusual way and still has her uterus, which ups her risk a bit. But I’m not worried right now as she seems healthy overall. This is one of those judgement calls — do I want to spend some extra money for peace of mind? In this case, yes. Wizard was okay with it too.
  4. So our house is up for sale. Yesterday our realtor came over to retake a few of the pictures we took. And by we, I mean Wizard took them while I cleaned, arranged and vacuumed each room ahead of the pics. Guess who was sulking (with good humor) about his pictures not being good enough???? And guess who teased him about it???? Wizard is such a good sport. Truthfully, we both appreciate that the relator has more experience which gives her a better eye on how to get the best pictures.
  5. This weekend is an open house. There are so many things I’d rather do, LOL! But this is part of the process and we’ll do what it takes. Maggie will be going to boarding for those two days. We’ve told her it’s her “spa weekend” since they will give her a bath while she’s there. I’m not sure she believes us, but she’ll have fun.

So that’s my five, now I’d love to hear yours! I hope everyone has a fabulous weekend!

Gah, naughty computer playing tricks on you. Shame on it. That woman at the vet’s must be a really good person. Dogs just know. Fingers crossed for her lump to be fatty. LOL about the pictures. Fingers crossed for the home sale, too. I hope everything goes smoothly and you get the price you want for it. Yay for a spa weekend for Maggie!

    1) A pair of Prothonotary warblers seem like they’re moving into the bird house on the porch. She’s bringing nest material and he’s chasing off potential invaders. One poor baby wren got its butt kicked and won’t soon be looking into strange birdhouses any time soon, I bet.
    2) I never got around to doing my container garden this year. I think I’m going to try just putting seeds in the front bed and see what happens.
    3) I’m working on reworking the beginning of my WIP. I wrote a whole new opening scene and now I’m trying to make sure everything flows before I continue on.
    4) It’s getting close to fawning time here. Lumpy disappeared for a few days. She showed back up yesterday, but I didn’t get a good enough look at her belly to tell whether she’s post-pregnant. Fingers crossed.
    5) I went to the thrift store and re-learned why I stopped going. They’ve jacked the prices up again on nearly everything. They’re acting more like an antiques store than a thrift store now. Bummer. Several years ago, I bought an old typewriter there for $10. They have two for sale now – $125 and $185. Blerg.

Technology is evil. But new computers are nice once you get everything transferred. Which is always a pain. Maggie obvously knows dog people! Furry children and peace of mind are important! Yay for it going on the market! Here’s for a quick sale but a slow closing so you can stay there until your new house is ready! Hope Maggie enjoys her spa weekend! And good luck with the open house. My five:

    1. We had rain. Lots of rain. Put a big dent in the drought out west which is very good but the flash and areal floods can be a pain. Cooler weather too, so the AC off for a few days. Yay.

    2. Texas, OU, and OSU all advanced in the WCWS. They’re all Big 12 teams. This is particularly satisfying because Texas beat UCLA (Pac 12), OU beat Northwestern (Big 10). There are no SEC teams in the tournament and only one ACC team–Florida, that OSU plays tomorrow. Why is this satisfying? Because the softball community disses the Big 12 All. The. Time! Yet here we are with 75% of the winner’s bracket. Yes, I am gloating a little bit.

    3. The Kids haved to get a “new” vehicle. The Jeep needs a new transmission, which is estimated at $5,100. The blue book value on the thing is only $3K. Ugh. LG told them we’d help with the downpayment and still figure out a way for them to take their vacation to St. Louis to see the Cardinals play. They have my Highlander at the moment because I can drive the truck if I need to, or I can just make LG take me. LOL Sadly, bad stuff never happens at a good time.

    4. I’ve stalled out on revising. It’s been a RL week. 8-O In good news, Stormy had his first golf camp yesterday. He had fun. There’s only about 12 kids and two pros teaching. He goes once a week for 5 weeks. Worth the $$. Baseball Boy and LG went yesterday. LG had to go pick them up because…no car. Then I met them at the golf course so they could drive Drover home. He’s also going to soccer camp and baseball camp. He’ll be with us some in between because BB is doing his Oklahoma History travel program again.

    5. Tomorrow is First Saturday. Siren test, family, and Mexican food. Yum!

Have a great weekend, witches! 🥰

    1. Go figure. Isn’t that how it always happens, but you’ve mentioned that you needed a new computer months ago. Guess this was the way to go about picking one out. I hope you love it.
    2. Maggie is s sweetie. It seems she is more comfortable with others now. Maybe it’s because she has Turbo and all her doggie family members in her life now.
    3. Poor Maggie. Since it’s a bit firmer than other lumps, I hope it isn’t making her uncomfortable. Glad you’re having it looked at in a couple weeks.
    4. Poor Wizard having his photos shot rejected. You two are so funny and such good sports.
    5. I am shocked that you are having a two day open house. They don’t do that here. I’m sure all will go great. Maggie should love her spa day :).

1a. Spent yesterday trying to fix the mess hubs made with his second go around with flight reservations. At one point I was on hold 40 minutes with the airline. I got very frustrated with hubs.
2a. Today I only spent 1/2 an hour helping hubs print his ticket. This is just crazy. Sure hope he learns to do this himself.
3a. Hubs realized that he lost the house key where we enter after the garage. This triggered me to look for the slider keys. I can’t find them. I will be searching all weekend for these keys we have never used but should be in “their” place. I will also have a new house key cut for hubs. Oh you may be wondering why I mentioned this one key. Well, every door to our house has it’s own key. It came about as doors and locks were replaced.
4a. I have my great great grandmothers writing desk. It had been in storage. Youngest worked on it a bit to stabilize a bad leg. This weekend I am finally (after 20 years) taking my computer off of a card table and moving over to the desk. I can’t wait.
5a. With hubs being gone (he leaves tomorrow am returns Tuesday) I think I’ll take it easy this weekend.

Sure hope you have a wonderful weekend!

B.E., thanks! I’m trying to just get through the weekend then see what happens. One step at a time!

    1) That baby wren probably learned a good lesson.
    2) The seeds will grow! I’m thinking positive :-)
    3) Yay for the new opening scene, but yeah, that tends to have a domino effect.
    4) Lumpy should let you know if she had her baby! And if she did, hope she had a safe birth and healthy baby.
    5) That’s just sad. “Thrifting” has become a hobby and ruined it for everyone else. Those kinds of price jumps is ridiculous.

I really hope you and your hubs have a great weekend!

Silver, technology is frustrating at times. The old computer is doing a long and dramatic death scene. We will get the new one up either one night this weekend or next week. Thanks for the good wishes!

    1) Rain is so needed, but as you pointed out, too much rain brings it’s own problems. Hope you guys get don’t get too much.
    2) You have the right to gloat!!!
    3) That really sucks for Only and BB! I’m sorry this happened to them, and the timing of it. I really REALLY feel for them. And Kudos to you for loaning them your vehicle. That’s a big deal and I’m sure they appreciate it.
    4) Yay for Stormy’s golf lessons! And he and LG came by the opportunity by luck, right?? I remember the story!
    5) Hope tomorrow gives you all some stress relief and laughs!

Have a great weekend, and hope an awesome deal on a car comes along for Only and BB!!

Viki, you’re right we need the new computer, and the old one really isn’t functioning today. I managed to move one file to my backup system and nothing else would work. It’s good that we bought the new one yesterday. Right now I’m working on my slow laptop — but I’m grateful that I have it!

    1) I hate being on hold and feel for you! I’m sorry :-(
    2) I hope your hubs learns to do it himself too. It might be like Wizard trying to get me to put on Netflix myself, let’s just say that I choose not to learn and he knows it, LOL.
    3) It would drive me crazy not knowing where the key was too. I hope you can find it quickly! And hope hubs doesn’t lose any more keys!
    4) Yay for getting your grandmother’s desk fixed and set up! 20 years isn’t bad. I’ve been going to replace an ugly light fixture in our house for 26 years. We all have those things we just never seem to get around to doing. I bet your grandmother’s desk looks awesome!
    5) You and Spunk can have a relaxing weekend together. You definitely deserve it after the frustration with the airline tickets and lost/missing keys.

Hope you have a great weekend!
