Prime Day Confession

I hate Prime Day on principle. I’ve always hated Black Friday too. I consider the sale items to be loss leaders get customers in the store where they will buy more. Amazon’s store is online but it’s the same principle, and I don’t like being manipulated. The hype grates on my nerves too. This is all just my personal reaction, other people love it and I say go for it if it’s your thing. But it’s not mine.

And yet…I’m so cheap I bought stuff. Pretty much all essential stuff:

  1. Underwear. Commando is not my thing :-) Every time I do laundry, I basically have to do a spell that beseeches the elastic to last through another washing. I’d reached the point where I either needed a new spell or new underwear. I couldn’t find any spells on sale on Prime Day :-)
  2. Scissors. I can’t stress how badly I needed those. My butter knives cut better than the scissors in my kitchen. I got two pairs! That’s a win since I suspect Wizard will snag one pair for his garage. See how thoughtful I am? Wizard really is a lucky man :-)
  3. Bike shorts for working out. I’m down to one pair that is getting so droopy, it’s embarrassing. So I snagged a new pair. I should have bought 2, but… CHEAPSKATE!
  4. And I bought a workout top. A short one hoping it won’t get in my way even if a little bit of my “age rolls” (fat! Sheesh just call it what it is) spills out. I won’t care as long as I don’t do something scary like walk in front of a mirror. Note: I did not buy any mirrors on Prime Day!

And that was my big spending Prime Day. I still think Prime Day is an overhyped gimmick that gets people to buy more than they need, but I’m also one of those people, LOL.

How about you?

Prime Day? Feh. It’s meaningless to skinflints like me. I had two shirts for work in my cart,. but then I went to the thrift store and bought 5 shirts and 3 pairs of pants for $10 less than I would’ve paid for the shirts. One good thing about living in a vacation area is that the rich people who live here give away the best stuff.

Yay for finding cool stuff to buy, though. You have to tell that man to leave your good scissors alone. Scissors have purposes and should never be used for anything but those. He can have them when they get dull. ;o)

Age rolls? Seriously? Don’t these people know calling it something else doesn’t change what it actually is. Fat is part of the reason I’d rather shop cheap right now. I’m losing weight and I don’t want to pay $$ for clothes I’ll probably fall out of in a month.

Oh. Yeah. It was Prime Day yesterday. And today? Or was it Monday? I can’t remember. Hey, you scored some stuff you needed and I hope they were on sale. I’m a Prime member but I usually ignore it. Then I got an email from Hamilton Beach listing some of their products that were in the prime sale. And I needed vacuum cleaner motor belts. Evidently, Wallyworld no longer carries them and I refuse to shop Target since they refused to let the Christmas Shop With a Cop group into any Target store. So I was on Amazon ordering the belts–2 for $5 with free shipping and I felt bad because they’d be losing money on just that one item but there wasn’t anything else I wanted or needed. Until the Hamilton Beach email. *sigh*

I need this thing like a hole in the head. I have a mostly good grill in the back yard. Except it’s too hot to cook out there. Of course, it’s too hot AND messy to use the broiler on my oven. And Uncle Fix-It did a “beef run” so we’re stocked with LOTS of hamburger, a brisket, and some lovely steaks. Steaks should be grilled, right? Right! And it WAS on sale. And it’s a reason to get into one of the storage cabinetts and clear out a bunch of crap I don’t use/need anymore. Anyway, I splurged and bought this: https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B001AQEPMM And I can honestly say that this is the first time in memory that I actually bought something during Prime Days.

That’s my story and I’m stickin’ to it! 🤣

I never do Prime day. First, I don’t have Prime and second, it’s too much work to look for stuff that’s a deal that I need. I just buy as normal.

You did make me laugh about the underwear. I’m glad you bought some before the elastic gave way  .

Good scissors are a must. I have a pair in every room.

You made me look for workout (bike) shorts. They don’t have any that are a deal in my size  . Glad you got some and a new workout top too. You did well.

I just emailed youngest, who has Prime, to get me some ponytail holders that are 1/2 price. I’m now a happy camper.

Got horrible news about Julie yesterday. The cancer spread into her ribs and back. When she was going out to the shuttle for her first radiation treatment she fell. She is now in the hospital. She will be there at least a week and will also give her the radiation therapy while she’s there. She’s hoping they keep her for 2 weeks since that’s how long the radiation is supposed to be. That way she won’t have to try and walk to the shuttle. She can barely move because of the cancer in her lower spine. It seems like it just never ends. I just keep praying and try to stay upbeat when I talk to all my family.

Sorry to close on a downer.

I’m making stir fry tonight and I think I will make a margarita. I little tequila sounds like a good idea :-P .

    Have a really wonderful afternoon!

B.E., Wow those are some good deals at your thrift store! It’s smart of you to take advantage of living in an area that generates great 2nd hand items!

People are weird and if it makes someone else feel better renaming something…whatever :-) I try to be honest with myself as long as mirrors aren’t involved, LOL.

Hope your week is going well!

Silver, it’s yesterday and today. I think there were some early deals to on Monday night.

Isn’t it annoying that we have to order simple things like vacuum belts? Glad you found what you needed!

Yay for the grill! We do grill outside in all weather, but I’d consider that grill too if Wizard didn’t want to grill outside. I think it’s awesome! Yay you!

I’m sad I didn’t get anything as fun :-) But I wouldn’t buy it now anyway cuz I’d just have to pack it to move. So you enjoy!

Once you use it, let me know how it works.

Viki, it’s a pain to search like you said, and really, you’re not missing out that much unless you’re looking for a big ticket item. I just happened to need a few things.

LOL on the ponytail holders. It’s so frustrating not to have them when you need them, so great purchase!

I’m so sorry about Julie, both the spreading cancer and her fall. You’re family is really going through a long and very tough time. I hope the radiation shrinks/kills the bad cells and gives her body the chance to fight. I also hope that being in the hospital gives her body a respite too as she heals.

Hope your stir fry is delicious and the margarita hits the spot! You deserve as many small joys as you can get.
