What Are You Reading?

Let’s talk about reading! And listening so I go through audio books faster than physically books lately.

The last book I physically read was “Bond of Passion: A Demonica Novel” by Larissa Ione, a fast past paranormal romance. That book was exactly what I expected from the author and series :-).  I’ve just started reading “The Mistress of Auschwitz” by by Terrance Williamson. It’s a historical fiction and I’m only read a few pages in, but I’m intrigued.

My previous audiobook listen was “While Paris Slept” by Ruth Druart, a historical fiction about WWII. This one is a wrenching tale about one Jewish baby saved from a death camp who later becomes torn between adoptive and biological parents. I’m currently listening to “The Brilliant Life of Eudora Honeysett” by Annie Lyons. I’d categorize this one as Women’s Fiction about an 85 year old woman who is sure she’s ready to die and the young girl next door who changes her life. So far, it’s charming and the perfect break from my previous listen.

Lately I’ve had an interesting in WWII historical fiction.

So that’s been my reading journey lately, how about yours? What are you enjoying at the moment?

Right now, I’m reading Ringworld Engineers by Larry Niven in paperback. So far, so good. I just finished The Lincoln Lawyer by Michael Connelly – also paperback. That one was pretty good. In the middle of reading that, I was contacted by a self-pub author letting me know their sequel (ebook) was out, and I read that before finishing TLL. It was awesome.

I’ve been reading a lot more paperbacks recently, mainly because I found a good thrift store with loads of books, so I’m working my way through all my purchases. =oD

You do have eclectic tastes and I think that is beyond awesome! The last book I read (on Kindle) was B.E. Sanderson’s SONG OF STORM AND SHROUD, a YA fantasy that was awesome but I read it because no audio. It took me awhile. Stupid eyes. 😝

Audio books are my go to and I just finished a “marathon” of Darynda Jones’s Sunshine Vicram series. The 3 book just released yesterday. And yes, I did no work on my own book because I was listening to it! No apologies. Sunshine is the newly (and duly) elected sheriff of Del Sol, New Mexico, a rural county and tourist town (fictional) located between Albuquerque and Las Vegas (NM not NV). Problem is, this former Santa Fe detective did NOT file to run nor did she know about the election until she’d won. Darynda’s trademark humor runs rampant, Sun is snarky but very, VERY good at her job. There’s an “unrequitted love”, a daughter, ditzy inhabitants, and a dark underbelly to the town that Sun didn’t see coming. Definetely start with the 1st book, A BAD DAY FOR SUNSHINE. There is a HUGE cliffhanger at the end so if you read/listen, be happy book 2, A GOOD DAY FOR CHARDONAY, is out. It, too, has a big ol’ cliffhanger but book 3, A HARD DAY FOR A HANGOVER is live and wonderful and there’s not really a cliffhanger so now I’m all paranoid that I won’t get my Del Sol Denizens fix next year.

FYI, I got the first book from the library way back when because I wasn’t sure I’d like this series. Her Charlie Davidson books lost me around book 10 and her Betwixt books never took hold, and I’m cheap so I waited until I got to #1 on the wait list. I laughed and cried and cursed (cliffhanger!) and when it came time for book 2, I preordered it and bought book 1 because I knew I’d do a re-listen.

Today, I’ll open STILL STANDING by Kristen Ashley, book 1 of the Wild West MC series, of which book 2 just released. While I enjoy her work, I’m not driven to drop everything and listen so hopefully, I get some actual work done today. 🤣

    Happy reading, y’all! 📚 📖

That’s funny that you are into WWII books right now. So in a way, is my mom. She’s reading book set in that time with the war going on behind the stories.

I’m currently reading Cynthia Eden’s romantic holiday novella (comes out tomorrow) KISS ME THIS CHRISTMAS. I just picked up Darynda’s A HARD DAY FOR A HANGOVER and will be reading it soon. I love her books. After that it will be BIBI, Netanyahu’s book.

    Have a great afternoon!

B.E., I miss paperbacks and used book stores! I totally get enjoying sourcing and reading those. I should read “The Lincoln Lawyer” since I liked the movie. I’d probably like the book more :-)

Yay for the self pubbed author’s awesome book!!! Awesome books are a treasure!

Silver, yeah, I do have eclectic tastes, especially these days, LOL. There’s just so many things I’ll only ever experience except through books :-)

Yay for B.E.’s books being amazing! Sorry about your eyes, though.

I listened to A BAD DAY FOR SUNSHINE and enjoyed it! I can’t remember now if I read the rest of the series, and will have to look. I suspect I didn’t, and now I wonder why not? I did listen to her Betwixt series and remember enjoying that too.

I never got into her Charley Davidson series everyone else in the universe loved. May have just been a timing thing for me.

Hope you get both some quality writing and listening in today!

Viki, that’s funny that I’m reading the same type of books as your mom :-) I think for me, since my dad was a fighter pilot in the war was, and he passed when I was 13 before I knew enough to ask him question, reading the books helps me feel like I have a better understanding of what he went through.

You must have an advance copy of Cynthia Edan’s novella, which is awesome! Hope you love it! And dang, I need to get the rest of the Sunshine series by Darynda Jones and catch up to you and Silver!

    Happy Wednesday!
