Weekend Roundup

The best description is quiet. But quiet isn’t bad, so I’ll take it. A quick summary:

The guys finished up and phase one of landscaping is done! Maggie has checked every inch of the back and approves so far. Our plan is to do phase two, which is turn and pavers in the backyard in a few weeks. We have some work to do to get things ready before that starts.

Saturday, Youngest stopped by on his way home from Home Depot, carrying a load of wood on the trailer that he built from a kit. Maggie and I went out to see Youngest and his trailer, and Wizard looks over at me, “How did you know he was here?” I answered, “I heard his voice.” Wizard just shook his head, having no idea how I’d heard that from inside the house. It’s a mom thing. Also I figured youngest would stop by to see the concrete and walls so I was probably half listening, but I didn’t feel the need to tell Wizard that.

Youngest’s trailer is really cool. Like I said, he built if from a kit, and got it registered so it’s all safe and legal for him to tow and carry stuff. I’m pretty impressed. Maggie was curious about it, and youngest told her she could jump up on it. Maggie hopped up there and preened. I’m not sure if it’s because Youngest allowed her up there, or she just loved being up there. It was too cute :-) Youngest has been teaching himself how to build, mostly woodworking. He loves it, and it’s a great creative outlet for someone who works with numbers in his day job. These kinds of hobbies and passions are excellent stress relief.

Sunday Wizard went racing, and Maggie and I did a couple walks, and I did yoga — oh! When we put up the new TV, we rotated an old one into our “exercise room.” We had a Roku we hooked it up too. And now I can stream my yoga videos and workout to them. I’ve been doing this on my Kindle previously, which was okay, but this is much nicer! We also can stream anything else we have access too, so it’s a nice room to watch a movie or read a book too. It’s a peaceful space away from the main part of the house. Eventually I hope to get some calming art work in there (I also hope to win the lottery, LOL!)

From B.E.’s recommendation, I ordered the book TERM LIMITS by Vince Flynn. It finally arrived and I started reading it. I really like it so far. It’s been awhile since I’ve read that style of thriller. I see so many books labeled thriller that I don’t think fit in the category, but this one does. It has enough high concept with great tension building in the plot. There are a lot of characters, but so far, they are easy enough for me to keep the sorted. I’ve only read a few chapters but I’m invested.

Today, I’m taking Maggie to the vet for her routine tech visit then we’ll see what else Monday brings!

You had a lot going on for a quiet weekend. LOL Yay for Youngest visit and his new hobby. That’s awesome. Yay for Phase 1 done. Yay for exercise room and TV. Yay for racing and walks. And, of course, yay for Maggie the Magnificent!

My weekend was also quiet. Saw the first robing of the year. Did some work–not as much as I wanted but I get getting hung up on a little thing that bugged me in the WIP. I think that’s dealt with now. We’ll see later today. Soccer game on Sunday. Stormy’s team tied the #2 team in the league. He played all three positions most excellently but he truly shined the last 8 minutes of the game at goalie. He kept the other team from scoring during multiple attempts, despite taking a kick to the forehead and a hard-kicked ball to the thigh. The kick came as Stoarmy was on the ground grabbing the ball. This same kid also shoved one of our girls to the ground as she was driving for their goal. True story–after Stormy got kicked, our girl got the ball and passed it right before the bully got to her. She stopped suddenly and shot out a hip as he brushed past her and put him on the ground. It. Was. AWESOME! The ref who saw it didn’t say a word. (He’d called the kid for shoving our girl but was overruled by another ref when their coach screamed about it.) Paybacks can be vicious.

Anyway, that’s pretty much my weekend. Wallyworld today. Chance of big snow tomorrow. More work on the book. Wash. Rinse. Repeat. Have a great week, all!

I’m with Silver… you did an awful lot for it being a quiet weekend. But it sounds like it was a good weekend, so yay! I’m glad your phase one is done. Onward to phase two! LOL about Maggie checking everything out. Yay for Youngest Son coming over and for his new hobby. LOL, yep, a mom just knows the sounds of her kids. Yay for walking with Maggie and for having a space to do your yoga. I am so glad you’re enjoying that book. Vince really did thriller well. I’m still pissed that cancer took him so early. He could’ve easily had another 20 years writing if not for that.

I spent the weekend battling a head cold, so not much went on here. I did slip out Saturday morning to run a couple errands and hit the thrift store. The only book I thought worth buying was one of Allison Brennan’s that I hadn’t read yet. I did see an amazing roll-top desk that I coveted. It was only $65, but it wouldn’t have been practical for our needs and I couldn’t bear to think about putting holes in it for computer cables.

    Quiet can be very good.

That is so true about mom’s and our kids. I seem to know when youngest is about to arrive too.

That is fantastic of Youngest to build the trailer and have it approved by the state. Though we all know that Maggie’s approval is what really mattered. I’m very happy that she got to get up there and inspect every inch to give it a paws up!

That’s excellent news having phase one of the backyard done. Again, it’s good that Maggie gave it her approval. I’m sure she’ll love when phase 2 goes in as well.

That’s good for Wizard to get to go racing. It seems like he hasn’t been able to go as often lately.

Bet Maggie loved the walks with you. You’re area is so pretty. That’s great having the TV set up so you can do your yoga routine. Is your exercise room one of the bedrooms?

Hope all is well with Maggie at the Vet today.

My weekend was a not fun. Hubs kept me up Sat night and when I went into the kitchen at 2:15am I saw the lights on the open dishwasher flashing. It hadn’t been run since Friday morning and all was fine then. I unplugged it but when I plugged it back it the lights were still flashing.

Around 8 I text Youngest and told him because he had said he was going to stop by in the morning. He looked at it and we determined that the electronics board had fried. The thing is 19 yrs old. So we ordered a new one.

He had to go to a party with ladies family but afterward went to LOWES and picked up the new dishwasher.

When he went to disconnect the water to the old machine the shut-off valve was broken and wouldn’t turn off. Water everywhere. He went to the basement and that valve was a problem too. It’s still dripping.

I called a plumber this morning, They were supposed to be here between 11-1. It is now 2 and they are not here. Oh well. It never ends.

Oh, we also got 6.5 inches of snow in 2 hours yesterday. Another inch today. It’s supposed to be cold and snowy all week. It is winter after all.

    Have a great day!

Silver, it really was a quietish weekend, but I always find ways to keep busy.

Actually getting the thing that kept bugging you in the book dealt with is a pretty big. Hopefully that will free up the flow for you.

Seems like Stormy is a great goalie! It’s a tough position. Hope he’s proud of himself! LOL on the girl. The other ref letting that stuff go is a bad example, but unfortunately, it happens.

Hope you got everything for Walmart, and are settled in for the possible big snow! Stay warm and safe and hope you keep power.

B.E., I really do like the book, so thank you! I’m reading slow because once I stop to read or watch movies, I tend to fall asleep :-) But I enjoy reading early in the morning before I walk Maggie — and I stay awake, LOL.

I don’t blame you for still being pissed. Cancer has taken too many from us all.

Oh no, I’m sorry about the cold. I know we always say it’s just a cold, but they are so annoying and tend to sap energy. Really hope you feel better soon!

I feel for you on the roll top desk, but you’re right, they aren’t super practical for most of us with computers. But still it was a great find, even if you didn’t buy it. Hope you enjoy Allison’s book. She’s so prolific, and last time I talked to her a couple years ago, nice as ever. Now I think she’s on her way to being a grandmother! Time flies!

Hope you had a good Monday!

Viki, it really is all about Maggie and her opinions, LOL! Wizard hasn’t gone as much lately, partly from rain and various things coming up. But he won his race yesterday so he was super happy.

Yes the exercise room is the third bedroom. We have three bedrooms and an office. The second bedroom is set up as a guest room.

Maggie’s vet visit went well, thanks! It was just a tech visit for her glands to prevent any more abscesses. She doesn’t enjoy that, LOL. But she sure loves greeting people at the vet, and she make friends with the office cat today.

Oh wow, you did have a stressful weekend! The dishwasher I can see happening after 19 years, and that that’s enough of a headache. But the water not shutting off, flooding and the value problem is super aggravating and not cheap to fix. The plumber not showing up on time is just infuriating. I’m so sorry. You guys really need a break from this repairs!

That’s a lot of snow! Winter is in full force in your area and doesn’t look like she wants to leave. Hope you don’t have any issues from all the snow.

Sounds like it might be a good night for a glass of wine! And maybe a pizza so you don’t have to cook. Hope the week gets a LOT better.
