Weekend Roundup

The weekend came and went as scheduled. We didn’t plan any kind of Superbowl event, so Wizard went racing. He just got home as I’m writing this just in time to watch the game. I told him I’d make him taquitos. That’s kind of a Superbowl game food? Plus we had roast last night and it’s an easy way to repurpose the leftover meat :-)

Otherwise it’s been a good weekend, but not exciting. I mean unless you consider watching yeast grow exciting. My sourdough starter is growing, and will hopefully mature. Wizard is mildly freaked out by the way it can grow in a day, LOL. I assured him we are safe…unless it escapes the jar and eats us. But I’m sure we’ll be fine. Probably.

Now I have sworn up and down that I won’t buy any special equipment to make this bread. For one thing, it’s pretty labor and time intensive and I’m just trying it for fun. Who knows, I may never try again. But I have fixated on a Dutch oven. I had one years ago in my other house, but gave it away (it made sense at the time). I will resist! I don’t need it just yet, and I won’t use it a lot. Heck I haven’t even ordered a pizza peel yet, which I also want. There’s just too many other, more pressing things, we need for the house.

I also wanted to tell you guys I made Rachel Ray’s Chicken Francese last week, and Wizard and I really liked it. I had leftover, and I turned that into two lunches for me: a wrap and a salad. If lemon chicken appeals to any of you, then I can recommend this recipe.

Oh and my “test” gluten and dairy free cake isn’t bad. It’s not going to have the same crumb as a cake made with all purpose or cake flour, but it was still good and cake like. We ate it with no frosting. I will make it for youngest for his birthday. I’m pretty confident he’ll like it. I’ll put dairy free frosting on that one.

How was your weekend?

I’m glad you had a good, non-exciting weekend. Yay for your sourdough growing. If it becomes sentient, let us know. Yay for finding good recipes.

We pretty much found out who won the Super Bowl after we went to bed last night. Several someones started shooting off fireworks once the game was over and I said to Hubs ‘Well, I’m guessing the Chiefs won’ LOL. Yesterday one of the bird sites I follow was calling it Superb Owl Sunday. Love it. Other than that, we had beautiful weather this weekend, so we got out and did some yard work. I made pizza on Saturday and pulled pork on Sunday. That’s my life in a nutshell. =o)

Yay for the cake working out. I have a cast iron Dutch oven. I haven’t used it in years either. I’d mail it to you but that would cost a small fortune because…cast iron. LOLOL True story–I received it as a wedding gift with a recipe for Indian fry bread. It was at a kitchen shower. I used that sucker to deep fry all sorts of stuff, make stew, roasting small roasts. Then we moved and it got shoved to the back of pan cabinet and…well… Anyway.

Weekend. There was one. We did very little. I’m getting ready for the whole eye thing starting tomorrow. Big Wallyworld run this morning so LG has stuff he can fix to eat until I can–hopefully–see again.

We had Golden Chick for dinner on Saturday. I did cheeseburgers for the game. It was a dang good game! We had ties to both teams so we couldn’t win or lose which is a win-win if you think about it. I was pulling just a tad more for the Chiefs. I was disappointed in this year’s crop of commercials and sorely missed the Clydesdales. But it was a dang good game! Which makes up for the stupid commercials.

Eye surgery tomorrow and then again next Tuesday. S’all good. Have a great week, all!

I’m so messed up. Chrome won’t let me onto your page. I had to go through EDGE. It’s never a dull moment.

I think you made a nice Super Bowl food for Wizard. I hope Wizard enjoyed the game. It was a good one from what I hear.

Don’t let that starter out. It will be like THE BLOB   . I always hated throwing 1/2 away every couple days. About the Dutch Oven, do you have Aldi? They have small ones, for 2-4 people. They are not very expensive either. Had to laugh about the peel.

Good to know about Rachel’s recipe. Also, great news on the cake. Youngest will be pleased, I’m sure.

Youngest and I got back from NY just in time for him to make it to his friends house to watch the game. I’m sure they had plenty of treats. Me -not so much.

When we got to NY my mom was not doing well at all. She just lay on the couch the entire time. Chris fixed things and I cleaned. We only stayed a couple hours but got quite a bit done.

I have my dishes packed up for Easter Seals and youngest is taking some mugs. As he says, they can always use more mugs :-P .

Have to go make dinner. It’s going to be some Viki version of chicken, mushroom alfredo. We’ll see how it turns out.

    Have a great afternoon.

B.E., LOL I’ll keep you guys in the loop on the starter :-)

You know, I heard fireworks briefly too and was confused as to why. Now I know! I didn’t even connect it to the Superbowl.

    Superb Owl Sunday is cute!

Yay for getting some nice weather! You were due. Hopefully both you and hubs have shaken the colds too. Pizza and pulled pork nicely round out your weekend :-)

    Happy Monday!

Silver, that would cost as much as the dutch oven to ship it! I seriously don’t need it, I just get the “Ï want its” now and again. And I don’t even know if this starer is turning out. Today it’s mocking me and doing nothing. I’m suspicious it suddenly died. Who knows.

But as for you not using yours anymore, I think we just get tired of hefting the heavier items around. Or digging them out of the back of a cupboard.

I read your blog today but I’m not sure my comment went through (I had a long doctor appt and haven’t had a minute to check again). I’m really sorry you have to go through this and hope they can preserve as much long term eye sight as possible. It does sound like you have a great surgeon!

Yay for enjoying the game! Wizard was for the Chiefs so he was happy too. So true on the commercials. I sat through a few, rolled my eyes and went in the other room to watch a movie. But then again, I’m probably not the right audience for the commercials.

You’re probably home and resting, and not seeing this, But I’m thinking of you.

Viki, that’s so weird, but Chrome can get really persnickety with me. Usually I have to update it. However I have problems like that with Silver’s blog, and it’s definitely NOT her blog. Things can just be weird in the cyberworld.

Yes I do have an Aldi! If I decide to get a Dutch oven, I’ll check it out. I go there every once in a while just to see what they have.

I’m sorry youre mom isn’t feel well. It’s bound to happen but so hard to see. I know you must worry. But you and youngest got a lot done in the time you were there, and that’s very helpful for her. ‘

Glad you guys made it back in time for Youngest to watch the Superbowl with his friends. You didn’t have treats? We didn’t here, just the taquitos for dinner.

Yay for getting the dishes packed up! I’m sure someone will use them.

Enjoy your dinner! Chicken’s my go-to meal as well :-)
